(Anita Amour)
I opened my eyes. My throat felt dry and I let out a cough. Where am I? What’s happening? Where’s Vera? At that thought, I sat up immediately, only to see Vera sitting there and coughing. I turned to my right to see the status of my flower. Its pink petals were curling themselves in as the stem hunched over. It seemed like it was trying to protect itself like me. I turned back to Vera. “Are you alright?”
“Yeah,” He replied. “You?”
“My entire body hurts, but it’s nothing too serious.”
“The train is busted.”
I craned my next to the side. The compartment we were in was now in pieces. It was crashed into a sign that said: Willow Forest
I held my arms. “Another forest.”
“This one looks creepier.” Vera added.
`“Should we go inside?”
“Ace and Mira aren’t there though,” Vera pointed out. “Remember? Their part stayed on the track.”
“I know, but we don’t know where they ended up. Besides, if we stay here any longer. We’d be found out. The people might not know we betrayed the council, but the guards obviously do.”
Vera gasped. “You’re right. This is bad. This is very bad.” He began pacing back and forth. “During that chase, they probably think we were chasing Mira rather than following her. So if we get caught by the guards, they’re going to find us, and we’ll probably be locked up for not capturing them, and we’ll never return to our families!”
“Vera, calm down!” I told him. “This forest is our only shot. We might be safe there. And then we’ll find those two. Also, you shouldn’t move so much right now. We just experienced a train crash.”
He nodded. “Yeah, you’re right. Sorry.”
I sat up with quivering legs. Ignoring the incredibly soreness digging into my legs, I held Vera’s hand. Taking a deep breath, we both walked into the dark forest.
