The passenger car they were in came to a stop just outside of the Red Towers. It’s a large walled-in compound where the alumni lived and trained. The wall surrounding it was made of pure stone with large wooden doors at all of the exits. There were several buildings and two towers within the compound, all made of stone, and the compound was vast. It was also crawling with guards.
Arya embraced Malich, grateful for the opportunity, and when she pulled away, her heart rate quickened. His eyes were on her lips. Before she could speak, her mentor, father, and disciplinary pressed his lips against hers.
She gasped, expecting to have an adverse reaction, but to her surprise, the affect she experienced was the exact opposite. A fire was lit inside her, confusing her that much more. His hand slid from the back of her head, holding her close, to the small of her back.
Conflicted, Arya didn’t know if she should pull away or kiss him back, but the fire inside her began to rage. She gave in to it, kissing him back fervently.
It felt wrong but right, bad…but good, foreign and yet familiar. She ached for more, but wasn’t sure if it was her hormones talking or her feelings for him surfacing. She pulled back and searched his eyes, for what she wasn’t sure. Whatever it was, she found it and crushed her mouth to his again. This time it was Malich who pulled back, eyes lingering shut with his lips spread into a smile.
Catching his breath he whispered to her, their lips mere inches apart, eyes trained on her lips as if trying to remember the way they felt. “Come back to me in one piece.” And with that, he reaches across and opens the door for her to exit.
Confused, Arya struggles with moving her feet. Again Malich motions for her to exit. She somehow got her feet to move enough to exit the passenger car, but her mind was racing. Schooling his features into neutrality, Malich closes the door to the carriage, taking her questions with him. Reaching up to touch her lips, her confusion turns to anger. It’s just like Malich to make her wait for answers. It’ll be all she can think about, driving her crazy until she gets them.
“Is there a problem?” Mekhi startles her.
Arya’s whips her head in his direction and then her eyes trail back to the fading carriage in the distance. “No preceptor,” she inclines her head.
“Good. Lets get you settled.”
Folding her arms behind her back, Arya follows Mekhi inside the large stone structure with wooden doors and guards posted everywhere. A servant carries her things, trailing behind.
There are many rooms in the building. Some are alumni quarters, there’s a kitchen, training rooms, and a bathhouse. They travel up a set of stone stairs, to a second floor. At the far end of the hall next to a large arched window is her room. It’s larger than the room she left with a wooden canopy bed, wooden bureau, armoire, and bench at the foot of her bed. Books line the walls. A few of them she recognizes. They contain the Red Code. She’d practically memorized its content in its entirety.
On the far right wall sits a vanity with various lip paints, perfumes, soaps and toiletries. She’s so taken with her new home that she forgets Mekhi is even in the room until he speaks. “You won’t receive any special treatment here Arya. Whatever you get you must earn, and everything has a cost. Keep in mind where you are. Everyone here is trained to kill, as they’re all assassins. Killing is what they do and who they are. Don’t hold back.”
“Never,” she smiles. Mekhi eyes her for a moment and she catches a glimpse of both worry and intrigue in his eyes before he leaves the room.ns 126.96.36.199da2
