Everything was falling into place. The plan was underway. It was a good plan, no one denied that, but would it be good enough? Zeus knew we would need our very best to even touch Kronos...well, Zeus would know that if he still existed.copyright protection16PENANAayZAFnQrtA

"Albany." I realized I had been standing in the way. Quickly stepping to the side, I allowed Hector and Eric plenty of space to fit the table outside.copyright protection16PENANAquedIPFeL1

I watched them take it down towards the river. So maybe things could go wrong, so maybe some of us could die...hell, all of us could die. We could soon be ghost in the fields surrounding the palace. And as bad as I wanted to kill Kronos, I wanted to live more. I wanted to grow up, I wanted to love somebody, and I wanted to worry about getting wrinkles. I wanted to be old. There I said it! I'm the first girl in the world who wanted to be old. But old people had one thing that I didn't. They had lived a long time and experienced life. Sure, I had experienced a thing that no mortal had before, but I would also be among the first mortals to fight a freaking Titan.copyright protection16PENANAaLrOacNoh7

Albany, I am with you. I about freaked out. I turned around, but no one was there. Worried that some ghost was peepin on me, I hurried out of the gateway. I sprinted over the fields of death and soon arrived among my friends again.copyright protection16PENANA7rG72luTNX

"When is Blade coming?" Kara demanded of me.copyright protection16PENANAtesHsax7oi

"Personally, I'm glad he's not here." Eric said.copyright protection16PENANA8z3AodNbC5

"We're over hating him." Deon said glaring at the war god.copyright protection16PENANAiKxZRzlls8

"You are maybe, but anyways it's not that." Eric said. "Blade is the worm on the fishing hook, and for once I'm pretty sure no one wants a bite on the line just yet."copyright protection16PENANAiWmKDPVaWk

"If you were wise, you wouldn't want to see him at all." We turned and saw Persephone standing higher up on the river bank, petting Cerberus.copyright protection16PENANAs5TwFhKttm

"At this point, I don't think we can afford to be wise." Adele said. She shrugged and turned back to the boys. "Guys, I need you to finish this."copyright protection16PENANAyM65LYF6j8

Grunting Hector and Eric heaved the table into the white water. Now there were three tables floating in the river. A few were barely over the water, and one was upside-down with its legs sticking in the air.copyright protection16PENANAfC4CnIriSo

"The most dangerous bridge in the world." I said gazing at our creation.copyright protection16PENANACltwR9NCCh

"We won't be crossing it." Adele informed me. "Blade will."copyright protection16PENANAYb35gP3WWm

I couldn't stop shaking. Standing at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial, I think I would have run away if I had been alone. But Calypso put her hand on my shoulder and whispered in my ear. "I'll be there to carry you back."copyright protection16PENANAEh57OXgBzT

I smiled and took that first step. We ascended together. The Memorial was closed, but let's be honest, that was the least of our worries. I took Calypso's hand and led her into the lion's den. We approached the statue of the Great Emancipator. The great marble statue loomed over us, it was imposing and even more striking now that I knew the lord of the titans was in there this very moment.copyright protection16PENANATx4WDlMGhI

"Kronos." I called to him. "Kronos, I'm here to set things right."copyright protection16PENANA3mT3wIpoY4

I was glaring at the statue, but it wasn't the one that spoke. "Ah, I already said that I won't kill you. You freed me, why would I wish harm on you? Calypso, how's your father doing?"copyright protection16PENANA9CmeJac0ML

I turned in a circle, but I couldn't see where Kronos was speaking from. "I brought you into this world, and now I'm going to take you out of it." Kronos laughed, but didn't speak. I still couldn't see where he was. "Come on out now, why are you hiding?" I shouted.copyright protection16PENANATFjYCWjoDB

"A panther does not hunt from the open." Kronos said, he voice eerily quiet.copyright protection16PENANA6HY0KvJaUH

"Nice try," I shouted, trying to keep him talking. It sounded like his voice was coming from the left, but I needed to hear more to be sure, "but I know you're not a panther."copyright protection16PENANAe3jAi3Lu4x

"Mister Blade, I had already discussed this with you." Kronos said. "I will let your fellows deal with you." He wasn't taking the bait, I thought panicking. My friends in Hell had made it very clear that I had to get him to take the bait. I needed to try harder.copyright protection16PENANAfYdyWPvge9

"Are you a coward? Too afraid to fight me?" I demanded, hoping to anger him into coming out. Kronos laughed again but said nothing. Now his voiced seemed to be coming from the right. I turned but saw no sign of him. "Let us finish this."copyright protection16PENANARlQPmBl5Lf

"Yes...let's." A shadow dropped from the ceiling. It landed between me and Calypso. I turned to see that there really was no form to it. It appeared to be just shadowy darkness. As I watched, the shadows spread around Calypso. She screamed and tried to fight her way to me, but the shadows bound her and held her fast.copyright protection16PENANAM0i6BAam4e

"NO!" I shouted. I drew my flaming sword and prepared to strike.copyright protection16PENANATkc6T8Wooa

"Tssk, tssk, tssk." Kronos tutted at me. The shadows raised Calypso's arm above her head, ready to take the full force of my blow. "We wouldn't want to kill the little lady here."copyright protection16PENANAygvp6R0rXM

I did not attack, but I did not lower my blade either. I held my tongue as well, it was best to not waste time talking. The more seconds spent chatting gave Kronos more time he would have to outwit me. He didn't have to win. He had to wait until I lost.copyright protection16PENANAGKMZQnz1JE

"Blade..." Calypso muttered, her body was not under her control, but her eyes and voice were. She stared me straight in the eye. "I can't bring you back, if I'm not there myself."copyright protection16PENANAfDYrKRAGgZ

Kronos jumped on her words, figuratively. "Yes young Hades. You wouldn't want beauty here to get blood all over her pretty dress."copyright protection16PENANAROfnemefNc

He misunderstood her. He had heard what he had expected to hear, but he didn't comprehend her real meaning. I almost missed it, but her eyes made me see. "Kronos!" I shouted in rage. I knew what I had to do, but I had to fill myself with so much hate to do it...it felt like I was the old me again. I boiled with rage and anger. I had to get so heated, so pissed off, that I would attack anyone to get at Kronos, even if that someone had long curly blonde hair and an unconfident smile that just made me melt.copyright protection16PENANA1uWOtMb2OV

I brought my sword down. The flames licked through the shadows, cutting them from existence. But I didn't stop there. My sword kept coming after that, it sliced through the shadows, and into solid flesh. I felt her arm break under my flames. I felt the thud of her hitting the floor. I saw the blood ruining her pretty little dress. I watched the shadows shrink away as Kronos roared.copyright protection16PENANAH3zFvkw50N

"HADES!" the building shook as Kronos rose from the ground. He was clutching his arm in the same place as Calypso. The shadows must have been an extension of him and I had cut him when I cut her.copyright protection16PENANA4SBkfQGu5u

"Come and get me!" I shouted. I closed my eyes and mouth and the shadows now wrapped around me, squeezing, choking, blocking all but my thoughts. "I'm sorry, I'll see you in Hell Calypso." I said in my mind.copyright protection16PENANAG6YCUsp6vd

Deoncopyright protection16PENANA2cgBRLVoRW

"Hey!" I shouted. Across the river two figures had just appeared. "Hey, I think Blade's here." The others looked and soon we were all watching with bated breath as Blade rushed towards the river, with Kronos storming after him.copyright protection16PENANAbWONh4DXyI

We could hear the Titan from here. "HADES! Curse you, curse you and all of the gods! I will erase you all from time. I will end your every thought of existence. You will more than die!"copyright protection16PENANAsePrQKTfQo

"Yikes, looks like Blade pulled through yet again." Albany muttered.copyright protection16PENANAtTBJvsvrQm

"That boy has a talent for starting fights." Eric said.copyright protection16PENANAn2jcPAgsyO

"No, he has a talent for attracting the most difficult choices." Janus said strangely. Both of his faces appeared to be in deep thought, like he was having trouble understanding Blade's choices. "Something is wrong..." Janus muttered, he looked worried with one face and intrigued with the other. "It would be a wise choice if we were a little farther away." Not one to ignore a hint from the god of choices, we hastily made our way away from the river.copyright protection16PENANAb030sTLl9C

I knew what I had to do. All I had to do was get Kronos to the river. I was running my heart out. I had died once before, it was not something I looked forward to going through again. Thinking of my death, made me think of Calypso, and how I had killed her. She was probably here now, watching me run from Kronos. I had all the reasons in the world, the underworld, and on Olympus to despair. To quit. To lay down and let myself die. And thinking of my murder, my killing of Calypso. It should have made things so much worse. It should have toppled my tower. It should have buried me here.copyright protection16PENANAePGx2w7iYG

But it didn't. "I'll be there to carry you back." Her voice echoed in my head. "I'll be there to carry you back." Her voice sounded again. "I'll be there to carry you back." This time I realized that I had shouted it!copyright protection16PENANA7aHab94Wvd

I kept running. I kept racing. All I had to do was get to the river. I had done harder things. I had risen from nothing to be a god. I had faced the might of Olympus. I had returned from the dead. If I could do that, racing a Titan to a stupid river would be nothing. Piece of cake!copyright protection16PENANAyfQ4Bc4p3w

Kronos tried to freeze time. He tried to halt me in my tracks. But here on the fields of death, time didn't exist. I smiled as I slide down the bank. I turned to see a frustrated Kronos still chasing me. He was getting annoyed, that is what I needed. He needed to be blinded in his rage. For what sane person would risk this river crossing? With that last sentence in mind I jumped onto the first table.copyright protection16PENANA4ilLQnhYGg

I probably would have fallen had the legs not been upright, I grabbed ahold of them and pulled myself away from the milky white water. It had a strange smell, like cleaning solution mixed with Styrofoamcopyright protection16PENANAEOrlZCu3zZ

Kronos was now on the bank besides me. I jumped to the second table and landed on all fours. I glanced towards the far bank. I spotted Paul peeking out from behind a rock. His bow was already notched. Looking behind me I saw Kronos look at the water.copyright protection16PENANAh7f7bRjggn

He would realize if I didn't egg him into crossing fast. I did some quick thinking. "When I defeat you, I'll be praised by the gods, they will welcome me back onto Olympus. And then...I will have my second chance to take over." None of it was true, but the truth was hardly a weapon.copyright protection16PENANAMlG87wwouc

"You used me?" Kronos asked. "You dare use ME as a pawn in one of your games!?!?" he screamed. "Curse you Hades! I knew you were false." He made his leap. I was disappointed to see that he landed perfectly. I hadn't expected him to fall in on the first jump or anything, but it hurt my pride to see him do it so perfectly, while I had nearly failed.copyright protection16PENANAF816t0IY3h

I hastily jumped to the third table and final table. But in my haste my leg dragged behind and fell in the water. I pulled it out as fast as I could, but my leg was already wet. Gasping, I lost all feeling in my leg. It was numb and cold and I couldn't move it. It was dead weight now.copyright protection16PENANAXkpdrB4LRl

Kronos was able to step onto the second table, as my jumping off of it had pushed it closer to him. He smiled as he looked at me immobile on the table. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Paul sneaking out from behind some rocks. I was frightened, tired, and crippled. But I was relieved. I had done my job. Kronos was now a sitting duck for Paul. He would shoot Kronos, he would fall in, and we would win.copyright protection16PENANA9EGPNOljcP

"Nope." I watched as Kronos grabbed hold of one of the upright legs from the first table and used it to shotput the table towards the next stage of our plan. Paul hurried a shot off, but it went wide right. The table broke to pieces as it collided with the former god. Kronos had one heck of an arm on him. "That was nothing compared to what I'm going to do to you." Kronos practically purred. He cracked his knuckles and smiled wickedly. "I can't believe I wanted someone else to kill you."copyright protection16PENANAwSYxYrxHqB

My leg was still numb, but I was regaining some function in it. I clumsily stood up. I found myself face to face with the Titan. Paul had been the next step, and we didn't have a backup plan. There was no one left. The others were probably watching from the palace. "Screw you."copyright protection16PENANAZoWpBo0G9S

Kronos smiled. "You will feel it all. I won't kill you until every single one of your nerves overloads with pain. You will wish you had never met me Blade."copyright protection16PENANA1ixI7kwtDJ

I knew I had to get him in the water, but with my leg I didn't trust myself to jump. So he would have to come to me. "I already wish that you ugly piece of..." Kronos lashed out and struck me across the face. I hadn't been expecting it and it nearly hurled me from the table. "Good thing time doesn't work here, because it will take an eternity for you to OVERLOAD my nerves with pain while hitting like that." I said overload with airquotes around it for added insult.copyright protection16PENANAiaBgHAIfh9

"Really? Saying I hit like a girl?" Kronos said looking disappointed. "Rather overdone don't you think?"copyright protection16PENANAQhxNG9bHPk

"I'm not the god of insults ok!" I shouted.copyright protection16PENANAzRD6zLr6e4

Kronos laughed. "I hate that word, god. Such a useless word. I think, when you and your friends are no longer thoughts, I will eliminate it."copyright protection16PENANAQxerOW1xbj

I was running out of time. Kronos could kill me any second, and I still couldn't feel my leg. I looked around. Paul was visible under the planks that had just been a table, but other than that I couldn't see anyone.copyright protection16PENANAG2BePhn0Zd

"Your friends have abandoned you." Kronos said. "If you were ever actually their friend."copyright protection16PENANAly4ZFEK6KZ

"I know." I muttered looking down. I gazed at the river. "I don't blame them for sending me. They probably knew I would die trying, and they probably didn't care."copyright protection16PENANAbBxq2lm4Ty

Kronos laughed. "I told you they wouldn't accept you. I told you that you were not one of them. Would you like me to kill you, would you like me to make you die?"copyright protection16PENANAozAZNqhbrg

"I'll be there to carry you back." Echoed in my head. But why go back, life was hard and it hurt. Was it worth it? What was wrong with being in the underworld with Calypso? "I don't want to." I answered myself. "It's wrong because I don't want that."copyright protection16PENANAoNPsMu7xBS

"I didn't ask if you wanted to." Kronos interjected.copyright protection16PENANAwMt3cwpzAi

"Long before I brought you back, before I died. Back when I had just become a god, I wanted to be living up in the world. Spending my time on Olympus. I thought I deserved it. I thought it should be given to me. When it wasn't, I tried to take it. I stormed Olympus and opposed the gods. They killed me for it. I thought I wanted to be a god of Olympus. I thought that I wanted a family. I don't. I want to stop being scum. As a mortal I was a lower class wretch, someone who was pitied. As a god I was the annoying relative that was the dead branch on the family tree. Everything I ever wanted was a mistake. People like me don't deserve to be loved and adored. We are the bottom feeders, the people that are supposed to shut up and do their jobs. I know that now."copyright protection16PENANA7ZSIYG8gRA

Kronos frowned, but he said nothing. We were both just standing there. Standing on tables in a white river.copyright protection16PENANAwgnmIaRQHs

"What I'm saying is, I don't care anymore. I'm not worth being a god, hell I'm not even worth being alive. I don't care how you do it...just cut my branch off of my family's tree. I don't belong anymore, I probably never did..."copyright protection16PENANAIefbisHH1i

Kronos smiled. He struck again. This time I grabbed him and let myself fall. I put no effort into staying on the raft. I was banking on falling off. Kronos struggled to free himself, but we were in the water before he could escape.copyright protection16PENANA09hSRgy0wp

I can't remember if I was baiting him or telling the truth when I asked him to kill me. I can't remember.20Please respect copyright.PENANAJX4Z8nrQ4t
