I work at a newspaper and have to manage web content, so there are a few things which I’ve encountered there that I think makes content look better that it may be nice for Quora to implement. I also have some Quora-specific features that could be updated.
Images
Teaser image
I’ve noticed on both my answers and other answers that while scrolling through the site, before an image is clicked on for reading, it will display an image if there are any in the answer. It seems to always show the first image in an answer, and sometimes that image isn’t necessarily the best.
It would be nice for two features to be added:
* Upload a separate image to be featured, without having to include it in the answer.
* Choose any image within the answer to be featured.
It’s a little thing, but having more freedom to choose a teaser image can help make the answer look more appealing while someone is scrolling through the feed.
Image reuse
It would be a bit nice if anytime an image is uploaded to Quora that it is saved and can be accessed in a quick-upload option for answers. I feel that this may be useful for people who have a lot of answers, and they remember using an image in an early answer but they aren’t sure which one, so they can just search through images uploaded to Quora and quickly insert it into any future answers.
Cutlines
This goes hand-in-hand with the above feature. If an image is saved to Quora, it would be great if there were a cutline attached to the image, which is loaded anytime that image is inserted into an answer. Within answers, if someone moves an image to a different place, this would allow the cutline to move with it without extra effort.
Links
This really probably only happens because I type my Quora answers in a Microsoft Word document and then paste into Quora. When I type my answers, I throw my links in the text in the place it’s going to appear in my answer, whether if it is a footnote or just a link.
When I then paste it into Quora, all of those links automatically change to text which is from the title of the webpage.
This is actually a nice feature, the only thing that is a bit annoying is that if I try to copy that link to make it into a footnote, it adds extra stuff which has to be deleted or else the link won’t work. It would be nice if there were a way to just click on the link and turn it into a footnote.
Sorting
Questions
It would nice to be able to view, for instance, the most followed questions in a topic. For writers who would like to have more exposure, answering questions with followers is likely a strategy many use. Being able to quickly find questions with a high number of followers could help with this process.
People
While scrolling through my feed, it would be nice to be able to filter out people whom I already have notifications turned on for, for example. Also, maybe something like being able to view answers by the number of followers the answerer has.
Answers
Answers could be sorted by length, topics or number of upvotes/views in the feed.
Answers
Follow answers
I would like to be able to follow an answer and be notified if a comment is added. For example, in the comments of a great answer: Carter Moore’s answer to Who is really more intolerant of opposing views, Conservatives or Liberals?, Carter says he will look into some other things which were not addressed in the original answer. It would be great if I could be notified if and when he posts that as a comment.
Also, if an answer is edited, it may be nice to receive a notification to see what, if anything, was added.
Monetize answers
I know that this is a feature which has been mentioned many times, but rather than paying for people to ask questions, Quora should monetize the actual content which is being read, the answers.
