One bright Wednesday morning at elementary school, a girl of six was sitting in a corner of the playroom building blocks all by herself. She looked across the room watching some kids playing with with their own bricks.
I wish I could be there.
She sighed and went back to playing with her bricks. Although she was young she had always felt different from the other kids. She had often felt like she just didn't belong. Which made her shy and very self-conscious. Some minutes after a auburn, red-ish haired and muddy colored, doe eyed girl came up to her. "Hey, nice castle you got there. My name is Addison. What's your name?" She extended her hand to shake it. Darwin stretched her hand out and shook it. "I'm Darwin." Darwin smiled. Then Addison took a look at her left and exclaimed. "No, way! You have six fingers?" Darwin flushed a bright red and hid her hand behind her back. "Yeah. I don't really like people making a big fuss of it." She mumbled. "Why?" Asked Addison. Darwin sighed. She returned to building her brick castle.
"The older kids make fun of me and call me stupid names. That's why I never play with them." She said glaring at the group of kids laughing in a corner. Addison looked shocked and sad. "Oh.. That's awful. You should tell the principle. "Darwin shook her head. She looked at Addison. "I can't. They said if I did they would never leave me alone." Addison thought for a moment. Then she piped up. "Well I'll stop being friends with them. I wanna be your friend instead." She smiled at her.
"Really?" Asked Darwin surprised. "Yes really, silly!" She laughed. "Now come on, let's finish this castle." Darwin smiled happily. She was happy she found a friend. She nodded in Agreement.
"Let's go." She said.
