Lucas and I sit in a corner of a crowded bar. It's perfect because this way my scent will hopefully be overpowered by the other scents around us. That and the fact that Lucas and I both have our gleams up for extra support against a werewolf's smell. There is no way Alpha Nate will find me here.
"So mind letting me in on your devious plan?" Lucas asks as I look around to make sure Alpha Nate isn't here.
I look at Lucas with a confused expression on my face, "what do you mean?"
"Oh, don't give me that look, Ri. You keep forgetting that I know you better than anyone. You wouldn't have jumped out of that window if you didn't have a plan in the first place," he says annoyed, "and stop looking around, you're making yourself look way too obvious."
"Fine. I do have a plan. But it doesn't involve you. It doesn't involve anyone," I bite back expecting Lucas to drop it. Instead, he just laughs and pretends to wipe a stray tear away from his eye.
"You've got to be kidding me. Are we really going to have this conversation again?" this time his tone has changed. He's serious. In response I sigh and slump back into my chair. I know he's about to lecture me so I get myself comfortable. This could take a while. But to my surprise the lecture doesn't come. Instead, he looks at me expectedly.
"What?" I ask in confusion.
His eyes soften as he says, "I'm just glad Alpha Nate doesn't know you as well as I do. Just know that I'll always be by your side no matter what happens. You can't get rid of me that easily. So what's the plan, Ri. What aren't you telling me."
"I - " I start to protest but stop myself. It's going to be useless especially because Lucas can be just as stubborn as me. I guess the torture really fucked me up because I'm about to tell Lucas everything I know;
"When I was in that cell, there was another person there. It - It was Kora, Lucas. The way she looked at me was in disgust. It wasn't the Kora we know and love. It was another version of her. It was evil. There was this evil presence surrounding her. I -"
"What are you talking about, Ri? Kora was in that cell with you, right? How could she be evil if she was there with you?" Lucas interjects.
"That's the thing, Lucas. Kora was there but she wasn't in the cell with me. She was with them. She IS with them."
Lucas' eyebrows pull together, "how is that possible? Surely, Madalyn would have seen Kora when she had her vision into your past?"
I rubbed my temple as I continued, "I think that at the time I didn't want to believe it. Maybe my mind chose not to remember Kora working with them."
"Maybe Kora did something to prevent you from remembering her?" Lucas says as he tries to help me make sense of it all.
"If that's the case then why do I remember it now? We both know that Kora is just as powerful as Madalyn."
"Anything could happen, Ri. I mean, we never would have thought that Kora would betray us by working with them. But here we are. Just answer this one thing: did she hurt you, Ri? Because if she did, I wouldn't be able to forgive her."
"N- no. I don't think so. All I know is that she helped me escape."
"And let me guess: this plan of yours involves getting Kora out as well?"
I look at Lucas in shock, "h- how did you know?"
"Oh, please!" he chuckles, "Like I said earlier, I know you. You told me all I needed to know to realize what you're up to."
I narrow my eyes at his response but keep my mouth shut. I hate that Lucas is too observant sometimes. It's unnerving to know just how smart he can be when he wants to be. A waitress comes up to us with a drink in her hand, "compliments of the lady at the bar," she says.150Please respect copyright.PENANA0jJAw8FGc4
Both Lucas and I look over to the bar to see a beautiful brunette woman saluting us with her own drink in hand. She flips her hair over her shoulder, exposing her neck. She has a mark on her neck. Her eyebrow raises as a challenge to gage our reactions. Lucas and I just sit there for a second before he takes the glass and salutes her back.
I turn around to face him, "did you see that?"
"Yeah," he responds before putting the glass down, "time to call Kane."
