As I walk towards the Alpha's home, I quickly put up my gleam. I might be a wise ass but I'm not stupid. I haven't been formally introduced to the rest of the pack while I was being treated here. If a werewolf smells me before I can get to the Alpha I'm as good as dead. Only an idiot would do something as stupid as that.
I walk warily towards the room I was kept in and notice for the first time that it's built a nice safe distance away from the pack house. This puts me at ease but I'm still aware that there will probably be guards walking around the premises. For now, I don't sense anything so I keep walking, but in a matter of seconds I feel a metallic object, most likely a gun, against my head. I close my eyes and sigh. How the hell could my instincts be this off? I should have been able to feel the werewolf's presence behind me. Stealth is what I'm good at and at a time like this, it just doesn't make any sense to me.
"Welcome to the mad house," I hear from behind me. I hear the smirk in his voice. It's patronizing. It takes me a second to realize what he just said before I grimace.
"That was really bad," I accidentally say instead of thinking it. Way to go, dipshit. I think to myself. This is how I die, by being a smart ass.
"You really think so?" the voice behind me asks, "I thought it was great."
"Not great, but definitely better than your other one lines," a second voice approaches us.
The new voice stands in front of me. I definitely did not expect someone with such a beautiful aura as the girl standing before me. She's definitely a werewolf, I can tell by the way she carries herself. From what I can tell, she's taller than me and well toned. She could definitely kick my ass if she wanted to. And since my instincts are compromised, I'm not willing to take a risk to see if my strength is too.
"What do you want, Bloodsucker," she spits out venomously.
My eyes widen, "h-how did you know?" I sputter out. I'm unable to control my shock. There's no way for them to know I'm a vampire unless I take down my gleam.
"We can smell you, dumbass," the guy behind me points out sarcastically, "don't they teach you that at vampire 101?"
"Shut it, dingus," the girl looks annoyed at her partner.
I decide that the best option for me to get out of here alive is to let those two bicker for a while until I can come up with a plan to get out of here. But as my luck would have it, oh wait, as of recently, it would seem that I have no luck. I sigh as she looks back at me.169Please respect copyright.PENANAi4dx1giq6A
"Well," she says waiting for my response to her previous question.
There's no way I'm getting out of this. But I could use this to my advantage, "I need to speak with the Alpha. It's important."
The guy behind me starts laughing, "that's impossible."
"What business do you have with the Alpha," the girl says, ignoring her partners outburst.
I really don't want to have to explain but I'm starting to realize that I can't do this alone. Especially after what happened back at the motel.
"My friend was taken by The Truth and I need to find him quickly before -," I cut myself off before I give too much information away. They only need to know what I want them to know. Right now, my only mission is to get to Alpha Nate as quickly as possible.
"The Truth?" she asks curiously. Her head tilts to the side as she studies me.
I squirm under her scrutiny before I say, "they're a group of humans experimenting on vampires. It's probably how you could sense I was here in the first place and how I wasn't able to sense you." I whisper the last part because I'm so ashamed at myself for not being able to do something as basic as sense my surroundings.
I watch as the girl's eyes gloss over. I'm assuming she's communicating with someone. It would be a lot easier if vampires could communicate with each other like that. It would save us a lot of time and energy. Instead we need to make sure we have a secure line before even thinking of communicating with each other. All the passwords and secrecy really drives me crazy. It was bad before the supernaturals were outed but now it's gotten ten times worse.
"Follow me," she says once she's done with her conversation with the unknown werewolf. I'm just hoping she spoke with Alpha Nate.
"You heard her, Bloodsucker," the peanut gallery behind me says as he taps the gun lightly on the back of my head.
We start walking in the opposite direction of the doctor's private room. As we make our way passed all the trees and rubble, I decide to put down my gleam. I would have better luck if the Alpha could smell that I'm here just in case they take me to someone else instead.
We walk up to a large mansion in the middle of what feels like a forest. I'm guessing this was originally supposed to be farmland but for privacy they let the flora flourish. The mansion is spectacular and I'm at a loss for words at how beautiful it is. No wonder this pack hasn't been compromised yet. It seems as though instead of hiding like most of us are doing, they're just living their lives as humans - very very wealthy and reclusive humans.169Please respect copyright.PENANAGgjZ9FAusd
"You don't have to worry. This is private property. If there's an attack we will know and we will deal with it," the girl says. She probably senses my unease. All I can do is nod in response. The quicker I can get to the Alpha, the quicker I can find Lucas.169Please respect copyright.PENANA55NkMryKUE
As we walk to the door of the mansion, the girl says a command, "enter", which allows me to step foot into the mansion without harm. I look around and the inside is just as immaculate as the outside. These werewolves have definitely done well for themselves. I remember when my pack was just as well off. And now look at us, dismantling because of humans. It makes me sick at how far we've fallen not only as a pack, but as a species. And all this because of a supposedly unbreakable treaty. I push my jealousy aside as I take in my surroundings. The entrance is really big and spacious. There are two spiral staircases on both corners leading up to the second floor. I notice two things about this place; first, everything looks expensive but not as gaudy like I thought it would be. It seems like the humans are the only ones who could make something expensive look cheap and tacky. But this place, although big and fancy looks like a minimalist's wet dream. And second, I notice the lack of werewolves which makes this place look even bigger than it already is and way too quiet for its own good.
I presume the guy behind me realizes my observation when he says, "for safety, we made sure no one is around to see you." Which makes no sense since they've already accepted me into the mansion. If I truly was a bad vampire like they think I am, then this would have been their second mistake. Their first mistake would be to let me live. But clearly, the conversation that the girl had really made an impact on how they treat my current situation.169Please respect copyright.PENANASC4c1MZIO0
Now that there's light, I take in her appearance. She has long blonde hair and her eyes are a shade of emerald green. How the hell did she end up being a guard when she could definitely become an actress or something in the entertainment industry. I follow her to a room next to the kitchen. Before she could open the door I hear two hushed voices on the other side of the door. I can tell who it is before she opens the door. At least my senses haven't fully betrayed me tonight, but I'm not happy about this.169Please respect copyright.PENANAw56x5Mej6o
