With the room clear, Rio can hear the distinct sound of gears turning behind the closed doors.
As the gears turn the door opens exposing an interior full of rusted machinery. The sounds of flowing sand audible from within the chamber.
Rio took a quick glance around the room as he flew inside.
The walls were covered with various pipes and tubes that were connected to the walls, ceiling, and floors.
The room was steaming from the many pipes and causing Rio to sweat.
The place was like a sauna as the heat only got worse as he continued further into the space.
"What kind of place is this? What kind of machine produces this level of Heat." Rio ponders as he continues to inspect the area.
After taking a few moments to take in his surroundings, Rio began looking around for the sound of the humming.
The volume of the humming had grown substantially after passing through the door.
It was loud enough to hear even with the blaring Mechanisms working within the room.
Following the sound, He comes to a large room with numerous machines and mechanisms all working together.
All of the tubes from the past room seemed to lead into this one. There was an incredibly large protrusion in the wall where the tubes came to an end.
The protrusion seemed to consist of multiple large exhaust fans as all of the heat from the room was being expelled toward Rio's direction.
The sound of the humming seemed to be coming from the Fans attached to the Protrusion.
Rio approached the fans with sweat dripping from his body. He had begun panting heavily as he was just close enough to the Protrusion to touch it.
And as Rio did so, The room shook and he was sent slamming into the protrusion ahead of him.
Hitting his head hard he began to fall out of the air when something had broken his fall.
He was inside the palm of a large hand that had reached out from the wall.
It was warm to the touch and seemed to be made up of a mixture of machinery and sand.
He looked around for any signs of life as he sat on the palm of his captor.
He could feel the vibrations running through it's hand when the Protrusion on the wall began to vibrate.
It's movements were disjointed and erratic as it rotated itself until a face could be clearly seen.
The face that it revealed to him was that of an older man wearing what appeared to be a mask made up of metal wires.
The mask had been bent to fit the shape of the man's features so that it complimented him perfectly.
Despite the metallic face ahead of him, Rio was more focused on something else about the man.
The man's Eyes were completely hollow.
As he looked into those lifeless black holes he could see that they were filled with a liquid that was swirling around them as if they were being contained within a jar.
As Rio was captivated by the oddity ahead, The elderly man began speaking.
"Who are you! The man asked as his voice echoed around the room causing it to shake violently. "How have you invaded my domain!"
Rio figured that this old man must have been the Psamathe that was mentioned previously. And if it was, now probably wasn't the best time to start a fight. He didn't want to reach an early end inside of the man's palm.
"My name is Rio. And I am unsure of how I reached you." Rio quickly replied in a firm tone that was filled with confidence.
He didn't want to appear weak in front of the man who currently held him within his hand.
Unfortunately, his answer had fallen on deaf ears as the old man was certainly not fluent in dog.
The old man watched as Rio barked without a word before the anger showing on his face faded.
"Ugh, It's just some worthless dog. I didn't go through all of this trouble to be scared of a little puppy." The old man scolded himself before taking another look down at Rio.
"Well, it wouldn't hurt to have some company, I've been piloting this town by myself for quite some time. I'm sure the master wouldn't mind if I left this little guy alive for a bit longer." The man said with a hopeful expression.
Releasing Rio from his palm, The old man rotated his body until his back was once again faced towards Rio.
As he did this, all the machinery in the room had resumed operations.
The room jittered for a moment before the humming sound had returned.
Rio knew that he needed to find some way to kill this man, but there was something wrong. The old man had mentioned something about a master.
If he wanted to get out of this town alive he felt as if he needed to avoid meeting with this master at all cost.
