I was on my way out the door when someone grabbed my shoulder.
"Detective Shang," a voice I knew too well said, I turned to look at the Police Chief, Owen Rogers, "I need you to go to 8th in the alleyway behind Gumptree's. A body was found there. Grant said it might be the missing Coleman brother." Chief Rogers and I had been family friends, with him being like an uncle to me because of how close he was with my mom, but they were just friends. Chief Rogers is a 6'2" man with gray hair and brown eyes. The Coleman brothers on the other hand were loansharks who absolutely despised cops.
"I'll be there right away, sir," I said. Chief Rogers smiled and let me go.
"I told you to call me Uncle Owen," Chief Rogers said.
"I can't call you that at work, Chief Rogers," I said, "It would look like you favor me."
"Oh, Edwin, everyone knows," Chief Rogers said.
"It's also unprofessional," I said, "Now, I better get going if I want to solve this case!" Chief Rogers rolled his eyes.
"Okay, bye," Chief Rogers said as he waved.
"Bye," I replied, putting my hand up. I bolted out of the Y police department and went to the crime scene.
The crime scene was an odd one, it looked like the body had been dumped here long after he had died. The body was only wearing a pair of cheetah print boxers and was covered in dried blood. There was an axe in his left breastbone and his left arm was cut off from the mid forearm. He had a lot of old wounds and scars, but also several relatively new bullet entry and exit wounds.
I walked up to fellow officers, Archer Douglass, Anita Holt, and Mikuni Moralis. Archer is a 6'5" officer with red hair and green eyes. Anita is a 5'10" officer with blue eyes and blonde. Mikuni is a 5'4" officer with black eyes and black hair.
"Do we have a statement from the witness?" I asked.
"She said that she saw a tall man with red hair leaving the alleyway before she discovered the body," Anita said, "But when she went to find him he was already gone."
"A tall man with red hair?" I asked, "There's only so much we can do with so little information."
"I also asked for a composite sketch of the subject," Mikuni said.
"Thank you, officers," I said as I left.
"He doesn't think I'm the suspect, does he?" I heard Archer say. I quickly turned around and pointed to Archer.
"I trust you enough to not suspect you," I said, "But if you say one more word along those lines, I will have Chief Rogers take you off this case."
"Besides we don't even know if the murderer and the man who dumped the body are the same person," Anita said.
