It was just another average Monday morning. The majority of the students all had frowns on their faces and looked like they just wanted the week to be over, one or two students had giant smiles and couldn't wait for class to begin, and quite a few others had already fallen asleep. And just like any typical day of school, Ms. Ziegler had a very stern look on her face as the class all walked in. Like she was already in the mood to bite somebody's head off.
Ms. Ziegler left the class for about three minutes to go pick up everybody's tests from Friday, giving school celebrities Crash and Spike a moment to warm up for the class period. Ms. Ziegler in a bad mood gave them plenty of material for another day of amusement for the entire seventh grade. Just like any other day.
As Ms. Ziegler returned, Crash and Spike kept an eye on her with giant smiles on their faces. As Ms. Ziegler walked over to her desk and shuffled through the tests for a moment, Spike whispered "Looks like someone has a giant cactus up her butt," causing Crash and a few nearby students to chuckle. Ms. Ziegler immediately turned around and shot a "kill stare" right in their direction.
"None of you better act smart with me today," Ms. Ziegler said in a menacing tone of voice. "I'm not in the mood."
"Well, technically you have to act smart in order to pass the class," Crash said with a grin.
"Myron, you say one more thing and you're in the office. I mean it."
Spike snickered.
"You too, David."
Ms. Ziegler turned and looked around the room. She then lifted up her arm.
"Oh no, she's getting out her whip," Crash said, quietly.
"If your head is not up by the time I count to three, you're getting a referral," Ms. Ziegler threatened. "One, two..."
Everybody who was half-awake immediately shot their heads up. The out cold students were shaken awake.
"Huh-what?" Zoe said as she woke up.
"You better not fall asleep again, Zoe," Ms. Ziegler snapped. "I mean it. The same goes for the rest of you."
"Sorry," Zoe said, leaning down and putting her hand on her face. "I barely got any sleep last night."
"Well, then start going to bed earlier. Don't use my class as a place to take a nap."
Spike made a sound that sounded like an angry cat.
"Anyway, your tests were awful," Ms. Ziegler said as she started handing out the graded exams. "A lot of you clearly haven't been paying attention at all these past two weeks. I went over how to change a fraction to a decimal several times. Have y'all even been taking notes? Do I need to start walking around the class and making sure you've been writing everything down?"
"Wouldn't that be an invasion of privacy?" Crash asked.
"Myron, I already told you I'm not in the mood. You'd better keep your mouth shut the rest of the period."
"Are you ever in the mood?" Spike asked.
Ms. Ziegler shot her finger to the door.
"David, office!" she barked. "Now!"
"Aye aye, Madam," Spike said, saluting her. He then left the room. Several students laughed.
Ms. Ziegler shook her head and continued handing out papers. As she handed Jeremy his paper, she said: "Jeremy, I need to see you after class."
"What, a six?" Jeremy said, looking at his test. "Did I really make a six?"
"That's what your paper says, so yes," Ms. Ziegler replied. "See me after class."
"Dude, you really made a six?" Crash asked, leaning over to catch a glimpse of Jeremy's paper. "No way!"
Crash and a few other students began to chuckle.
"How on earth do you make a six?" Emily asked. "Did you even try?"
"Kind of," Jeremy replied with a grin on his face.
"You really should try a little harder next time, Jeremy," Crash said. "See if you can get a negative number."
"Did anybody score lower than me? Anybody?"
"ENOUGH!!" Ms. Ziegler shrieked. "It doesn't matter who scored the lowest! The average grade of the whole class was lower than a forty! That is disgraceful! And also pretty embarrassing! It looks bad on me! People are going to start thinking that I'm not doing my job! Sure, a few of you did good. Thank you very much, those few. But a few of you is not going to cut it! Y'all need to be doing better than this! Especially since it's almost the end of the year!"
"Hey, at least if everybody fails, you'll get to see our beautiful faces again next year," Crash said with a grin. "Wouldn't that be awesome?"
"Myron, office! Go!"
"You have an amazing day, Miss Ziegler." Crash stood up and walked over to the door. "Can't wait to see you tomorrow. And next year."
Crash heard Ms. Ziegler shout something else, but he just laughed and walked down the hallway, where Spike was waiting for him.
"Did she turn red?" Spike asked.
"Close," Crash replied. "Really close actually."
"Then I guess she was in a better mood today."
Crash and Spike both chuckled and the two walked towards the office, where Mr. Pollack was already waiting for them.
