(Mira Oka)
Open your eyes, Mira, My mind ordered. You’re in danger! Without hesitation, I thrusted my fist in the air.
“Ow!” A voice cried. It sounded exactly like Lena’s. My eyes snapped open that second. Lena was standing there, rubbing her cheek in what looked like a patient room with a shelf. “Sorry,” I started, realizing my mistake. “Fighting instinct.”
Lena nodded and placed her hand down, with a frown.. “Are you feeling okay?”
I sighed, holding my left arm. “My arms and my right leg are mostly numb, but a soreness is starting to kick in my entire body right now. It’s strange.”
“Ah, I see,” Lena replied with raised eyebrows. “Oh, about that, I applied numbing cream to those areas because they were mostly injured, considering a brick has fallen on them. But it seems like the effect of it is starting to wear off. It’s probably sore because I tried reducing the pain with medications.”
“A brick?” I asked, off guard. I used my fingers to touch my temples, trying to recollect memories before I ended up here. Ace was in a full version of his demonic form. I was fighting him. Then I saved him and then, an eruption came under us. Ace…Panic rose in me. “Wait, where’s Ace? I’m sure he’s injured too, I need to see him, I want to make sure he’s-”
“Don’t worry, he’s in Laura’s haven,” Lena explained, calmly. “He’s healing right now.”
I sighed in relief. Right, they have havens. Laura and Lena showed me theirs when I was young, but Ihaven’t seen them in ages. I sat up. “Okay. But…how did you find us? What happened to Allurix? How long-”
Lena held her hand up. “I’ll explain everything, so calm down.”
I sighed, flopping back to the pillows.
“First of all,” Lena began. “You have been unconscious for three days.”
“What!?” I asked, frantic.
“Hold on,” She told me, before I could say more. “Also, Allurix is completely destroyed, and the entire council is dead from the invasion, except for Kasumi and Astrid. And the borders are down too.”
What the hell? I thought. I was knocked out…and then the council died? Along with the border being down? So, I was taken here? I could feel sweat coming out from my forehead. Does Ace know? Maybe he’s waiting for me, since he’s healing. Unless… “What about Ace?”
“He was with you, it seemed,” Lena answered. “Though, he was also knocked out pretty badly. Before we took you guys in, Laura and I discussed that once you guys regained consciousness, you guys could meet up at the entrance of the city.”
My head perked up. “Really?”
The edge of Lena’s lips creeped up. “Wow, you sound pretty eager.”
I felt my cheeks heat up. “It’s not like that. We just need to talk.”
“Well, if you’re really up for it, we can go,” Lena replied. “But first, we need to get you changed into a new set of clothes.”
I glanced down at myself. My clothes were just a ragged mess.
“What do you have in mind?” I asked her. She held out an hangered outfit. It was a short dark pink sweater and black cargo pants.
I nodded in approval.. “Not bad.”
Lena held out her hand. “Let’s take you to the bathroom.”
Examining my face in the mirror was the first thing I did after entering the bathroom. There was a bluish-purplish bruise near my lips, and a bandaid not so far from it-on my right cheek. Once I changed into the new fit, I checked myself again. If I was being honest with myself, I looked pretty cool-minus the bruises and bandages, obviously.. I shoved my hands in my pockets and felt a peculiar texture of some type of fabric. I pulled it out. It was a black mask. Ah, that’s good. I’ll most likely need this. I placed it back in my pocket and exited the bathroom.
Lena was waiting for me. “Looking cool Mira. It totally fits your style.”
I breathed, “I have to see the city.”
Lena nodded knowingly. “But I will remind you again that it’s destroyed, so be prepared for what you’re going to see.”
I pursed my lips, allowing a feeling of anticipation to kick into my mind. Everything is destroyed. The council is dead. I exhaled. “Okay, I’m ready.”
Lena stuck out her arm to the wall of the haven. A circular opening appeared, revealing what was outside of it. She led the way, and I followed her.
