I sat, once again, in Azaelea's room. This room had almost come to feel more welcome to me than my own crowded space a few feet over. I smile, the whisper memory of 'you're beautiful' burning in my mind. Such a thoughtless phrase, really, thrown around so casually even though it held countless amounts of power. Sudden, it was, when the words had left Azaelea's soft lips, and I had been shocked into silence at that point, my hand frozen over the careful painting of myself.
The aforementioned painting now hangs in my room, framed simply with dark wood. I refused to get a more intricate frame, arguing that it would take away from the sights of the gentle brush strokes and the carefully sketched lines. I have tried to draw Azaelea, to no avail. I always end up breaking my pencils in half from the pressure which I grip them with. I just can't seem to capture the gentle ease of her nose to her lips, her round cheeks, or even her flowing purple hair. It angers me, but maybe something so precious cannot simply be transferred onto paper.
"Hello, Violet? Miss half-hair?" Azaelea's voice floats through my thoughts, piercing my inhibitions.
"Uh, yes?" I say, snapping quickly out of my thoughts.
"I was just asking about the project we have due in Biology. Remember?" Azaelea says, shifting slightly in her spot.
"Oh, uh, yeah. It's in my room, let me go get it." I say, giving her a small smile.
She frowns a bit, but doesn't object as I walk briskly out of her door and into Alex's room. The door is ajar and the window still open, meaning that he must have gone over here. With who though? Thinking of Alex's possible deviousness almost sends me plummeting to the ground as I teeter over the sill dangerously. Gathering a breath of courage, I leap across, landing securely on the other side. I grumble at the sight that he, or they, didn't bother to close my window either, but I keep it open too as I search through my tattered backpack.
The project is lumped quietly near the bottom, hiding itself under what must be fifty other papers. I sigh and try to straighten the crumpled edges out, with little success. I climb back through the window, securing both of them closed behind me as it had started snowing again. Azaelea sits sullenly in her room, staring plainly at the heavily decorated walls surrounding her. I sit on the bed next to her and hook my fingers through hers, wondering if she would even notice what I did. 710Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡ4DgAGgZorx
I can feel heat rising to my cheeks with a fervor. Violet has hooked her thin hand in mine, and I can't help it but I tense. Not intentionally, no, as maybe this whole thing would finally bloom into what I want - a relationship. She pulls away, and I stare at her, breathing in her sharp features and small limbs. Skinny, really, not small. Violet's quite tall, at least three over my height of 5'4, but it doesn't exactly make her seem threatening. Surely to others she might look unapproachable, but to me she looks soft and worn around the edges. You know, in a good way.
Choking on my words, I stutter out. "N-no, give me your hand back. I need your warmth."
She smiles and obliges, our hands hooking once again around each other. We weren't yet an official thing, but I could hear giddiness explode inside me as the prospect that we might soon be. I grin involuntarily, and she squeezes my hand. It's dead silent in the room except for the heavy pitter of snow falling all around and the vents wheezing warm air into the room. I exhale, letting myself fall back onto my bed as Creampuff struts lazily into the room. She had nearly tripled in size in the last few nights, and now the fluffy cat was almost to Maddie's hips.
Creampuff meows and hops onto the bed, landing on my exposed stomach. I groan and double over, moving the ball of fur closer to the edge of the bed. Violet's hand it still cradling mine softly, making me feel warm and tingly inside. She turns to face me, so I take a small chance and kiss her on the nose. Her cheeks turn a darker shade of red, and I let out a giggle. She laughs as well and rolls very close to the edge, threatening to fall off.
"You wouldn't!" I gasp, staring at her with wide eyes, even though I was mainly joking.
"Then you mustn't know me that well." She laughs maliciously and rolls onto the carpet, bringing me down with her. 710Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡclTQMbGdGU
I grown and look down at her smiling face. Thank god I can think before I act, or our first kiss might have happened right there. I struggle off of her instead, sitting up and dusting off my jeans. Her face forms into a flirty pout. She flicks my nose and runs.
As soon as I realize what just happened, I'm off in a flash. Jesus, she's fast. My first instinct is to search the bathroom, but that ends up empty. Nearly growling, I stumble into Alex's room to find the window open. Of course. I leap quickly over the ledge again and fall through the open window. Her floor is hard, harder than mine, and I let out a gasp as I feel a sharp pain race through my back. I check several doors on the hall, all of them empty except for one. There I find Alex and Maya kissing, and I sheepishly close the door and run away from the scene. Talk about something I wasn't supposed to see.710Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡQEQQMQUPOQ
Panting, I find her waiting patiently in the living room, her hand around a mug of coffee. I practically collapse on the couch next to her, laying my tired head on her thigh. She smiles and smooths my hair down, sipping her coffee. I manage three words through my wheezing.
"Alex... Maya... kissing..." I sputter out, and she shoots up, spilling her coffee on the table. I doubt she cares, though. I curl up on the couch lazily, my cheek still burning from where I was resting on her leg.
After Azaelea said those three words, and not 'I Love You', I shot off in search of Maya. I burst through her door to find a startled Alex and a grinning Maya, who had broken away from each other when I came through the door.
"Maya! Really, of all the cute people, you choose him?" I say, my jaw having gone slack.
She grins and gestures silently to the door, and I know she's ordering to leave. I let out a huff, but I exit the room. I find Azaelea napping on the couch, and I grab some paper towels from the kitchen to clean up my mess. I put the mug in the sink and throw away the wad of paper towels. I grab the Tv's remote and shuffle soft music. Curling up next to Azaelea's sleeping form, I succumb to the land of dreams.710Please respect copyright.ＰＥＮＡＮＡbhIN7Pr0Do
