I looked over at the city. I was walking with Ema to get some medicine because Josip, Ivan, and Filip were gathering tools we could use to explore the void. While walking with Ema, I could hear some chattering of kids saying, "Pazi na njegovu rasvjetu (Look out, it's lighting, kid.)"
"Why are these kids calling you Rasvjeta Klinac? (Lighting Kid)" I asked Ema, who glanced at me and smiled slightly.
"That's a long story to sum it up; I'm just a lighting user," Ema replied.
"What's your weapon?" I questioned. Ema stopped and then looked at me, a little confused, but she took out her weapon. Ema pulled out these glowing nunchucks and showed them to me. I was about to touch it, but she pulled it away.
"Don't touch it; it burns," Ema exclaimed.
"Then why are you touching it without any problems?" I almost reached out to touch it, but Ema jolted it away. I didn't believe it.
"I'm used to it, and you do not trust me; it hurts," Ema warned. I looked at Ema confusedly, but I stopped being curious and turned out to be a little bossy.
"Just let me touch it; I won't break it," I begged. Ema pointed to her arm scar.
"That is what happened to me, so back off." Ema glared at me. "Be lucky I'm helping you."
"You're right I'm sorry... Hey, what are we getting medicine for?"
"Isn't it obvious we have to be cautious when getting bandages and herbs from an apothecary?"
"What's an apothecary?"
"Really, huh, well, it's like a person who makes healing stuff and other things."
"Oh, okay." I nodded after we got a lot of items from this store called Pollam's Aid. We went back to meet the others at the library. Ema's and my hands were full of bags from the shop. As we ventured down the city, looking around and having some small talk, then remaining silent, we finally made it to the library. I stepped in there, a cold chill going up my neck as I got used to the temperature of the library. In front of us were Ivan, Filip, and Josip, with a bunch of tools. Ivan and Filip were talking, and Josip was checking out one of the tools curiously.
"Hey, you guys!" Ivan walked over to us and helped us take the bags to this huge table in the library.
"You got the stuff?" Ivan asked, looking at Ema a little suspiciously.
"Yeah," Ema said quickly. I looked at Josip and Filip as our eyes met for a second. We shrugged, and then I walked over to him.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Zemlija?" Josip asked me. Josip was acting like I'd known him for a while, but I was curious about what they were talking about.
"I think we're fine. I don't think Ivan would do anything that bad," I responded. For some reason, I was doubting myself, but I hoped that this would all turn out okay. I heard Filip talking about the time with Ivan, and we started walking somewhere outside the library and farther away from the buildings.
"Where are we going?" I asked Filip.
"Oh well, Josip says we have to find a 'good low place' in the ground to lower down," Filip responded a little sarcastically when he repeated what Josip said.
"I don't like your tone." Josip glared at Filip. Josip stopped walking and got close to Josip like they were about to fight.
"Shut up; you two were here." Ivan shoved both of them away from each other. I was a little relieved that Ivans stepped in when he did. In front of us was an old tree that was hanging down, and the ground was shifted downward but still floating. I walked up to it and looked around curiously at the ground, but I couldn't see anything, maybe because it was night or maybe because there was nothing there to look at.
"Careful Zemlija!" Ema grabbed me as I stumbled a little bit. She pulled me back and looked to see if I was okay.
"How are we going to get down there?" Ivan looked at everyone and nodded.
"I have my weapon," Ivan spoke up, taking a weird object out of his backpack. He held it and out came a glowing, light green staff. Josip pulled his satchel over and opened it, taking out his rope and a new rope he must have gotten at the marketplace.
"I got the ropes; let's go one at a time; I'll go first." Josip let out. Josip walked over to the tree, tying the ropes together and then to the tree tightly. I watched in horror and shock, and Josip grabbed the rope and jumped.
"Josip!" I looked downward, surprised. The rope was moving, and then it stopped. I couldn't hear anything. Should I go? I paused, seeing something coming back up. It was coming up fast. Was that an arrow?
"He's alive." Fillip let out. "Let's go, Ivan. You first, slowly, don't be crazy like Josip." I climbed with everyone else downward, with only Ivan's staff illuminating the way we were going. I was careful, making sure not to mess up anyone else who was climbing down. Once we reached the bottom, we looked around for Jossip, wondering where he had gone. I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Boo!" Josip laughed as I jumped up high and let out a shriek. I grabbed Filip by his hair, and he kept laughing.
"Alright, alright, my bad." Josip breathed, trying to catch his breath. "Let's get moving." I nodded, and we followed Ivan as he walked towards what we presumed to be a cave or something. We all had some sort of weapon or something to protect us with and a backpack or something to carry stuff in.
"Did we bring enough water with us?" Filip asked, looking at everyone.
"I brought like three canteens; only one is full," Ema replied.
"I brought water too." I let it out, and Josip nodded.
"Alright, then how about food?" Filip asked.
"I got a lot of food, or, well, things that are edible," Josip answered.
"I got fruit from the gathering," I added.
"I got some bread," Ivan said while waving his staff around. "I think I see a cave."
