The Present – Leslie; 25. Jake; 31
'Shit! I'm so late.'
I shower and brush my teeth at lightning speed before I leave the bathroom. I hear a groan coming out from the direction of my bed. I totally forgot there was someone here with me.
I throw a pillow at him, “Get up, you need to leave, now.” I tell him as I run to my closet for some clothes.
“Com'n sweetheart, come back to bed.”
I roll my eyes before turning to him. He's lying on his elbows with a cocky grin on his face. The sheets do nothing to hide his erection.
'What's his name again, I think it started with a T.'
“Listen Tad, I have an early meeting and I need you to get up now.” I tell him as I drop my towel and start dressing.
Frowning, he says, “My name is Brad.”
'Huh! Well, close enough.'
“That's what I meant, Brad, now off my bed. I'm leaving.” He gets out of the bed and starts searching for his clothes.
I run to the kitchen and pour two to-go cups of coffee. I grab my keys in the small basket on the coffee table and race to the door.
“So when can I see you again?” he asks as I hand him his cup and push him out the door. Before I can answer, the door opposite to mine opens.
'Great,'
“Hey neighbour, doing the walk of shame I see.” Jake says.
It's moments like these that remind me how much I miss my house. Kara (my best friend)'s ex-husband had to go and ruin everything when he started stalking her
'Jake Anderson,'
Jake is business partners with Kara's new man, Liam. At least I think he's her man. I can never tell with those two. Anyway that's a whole other story.
Liam suggested I stay in the other penthouse in Jake's building for protection until kara's ex-husband is found. It's only been 2 weeks, but it feels like a lifetime.
The woman in his arms glares at me but I ignore her and let my eyes wonder to Jake. I can't help but stare at his broad naked chest and chiseled shoulders, the only way I can describe him is beautiful.
His abs are breathtaking but what gets me is the dust of hair leading to his pants, what I wouldn't give to-
'No leslie, he's off limits.'
Since he's Liam's best friend, I can't just sleep with him and throw him out the next day. Plus this attraction between us will take more than one night to get over. And I don't do repeats. I learned that one the hard way.
Finally, I meet his intense hazel eyes. His dark brown hair is still messy from sleep and his perfect lips are stretched to a smirk telling me he just saw me ogle him.
Ignoring his previous statement I say, “Always a pleasure seeing you and your…. Friends.”
I pull Brad's hand 'or is it Tad'. I race towards the elevator and close it before they can join us. As the doors closes, I see Jake glaring at Tad with a clenched jaw.

“Sorry I'm late mom.” I say when I join her at the table.
“It's okay.” she gets up and kisses me on the cheek before sitting back down.
I meet my mother for breakfast every Monday at a small coffee shop diagonally across my office. That way I can go straight to work after we're done.
My mother is dressed in a maxi dress with large sunglasses, an eye-catching belt and boots to match. She's the complete opposite of my father.
She's more of a free spirit while my father is one of those old stuffy Wall Street men. Even with their differences, you can tell how madly in love they are.
“I guess I should thank your tardiness on my future son-in-law.” she wiggles her brows at me.
I sigh. “No mom, no son-in-law here.” I tell her for the millionth time. Lately, she has been obsessed with me settling down.
“You know you can tell me if you want me to set you up. I know some lovely young men who would love to meet you.” she says before sipping her tea.
“No thanks, I'm not ready to settle down.” Being set up with my mom, I shudder. Just thinking about it scares me. Can you imagine the type of guy she would set me up with.
“Leslie you're 25, at your age I had already met your father and I was pregnant with you.”
I exhale a heavy breath, here we go again. I know she does this out of love. She wants me to find my someone, the same way she found dad, but so far, I haven't met anyone who could hold my attention for long.
Not since him.
“Mom you need to drop this, I'll settle down when I'm ready.”
“So, how's dad doing?” I ask
Reluctantly she goes along with my change of subject and starts complaining about my father not watching his cholesterol.53Please respect copyright.PENANAayJScmczUz
