In this world, the world we live in everybody is born with a tattoo on each arm. on one arm you and your soulmate have the same tattoo and on the other arm is the same tattoo as your worst enemy. nobody knows which one is which.
Lorelei was walking down the city streets. her deep crimson hair flowing behind her, a small round face with keen blue eyes and thick eyelashes. wearing a frilly green shirt and black skinny jeans. Accepting the stares from those around her. Of course, they would stare she was strange to them. her black boots echoed on the pathway. but unlike those who passed her on the street, she knew which tattoo which. she knew her fated one and her enemy. She knew because they were both the same. her enemy was her soulmate.
war broke out against the Zerach empire. Because Lorelei's 18th birthday just passed she was allowed to join the army so that's what she did. The army men didn't really want her on the front line and all Lorelei wanted to do was travel and experience some thrill before she found her soulmate. She knew that somewhere on the other side of the battlefield was her worst enemy, her soulmate. She became a Doctor in the army. staying at least 10km away from the battlefield it was probably the safest job on the front lines you can get. a year after she first joined the army the war was still ravaging on, said to be worse than all previous wars combined. a week prior to the back of the battlefield we found a deep hole probably from an explosion that struck there earlier on in the war and set up the medical shelter there.
I was stationed at the medical shelter, it was pretty good there we had built a 2 story building the size of an acre. massive camouflage sheets were thrown on top over the roof and secured at the edges of the pit the tarps let in enough light so we wouldn't have to turn the lights on in the rooms that had windows in the building. the rooms in the center of the building had lights on though. from the sky the building looked just like another piece of land. from the ground, you wouldn't see it if you took a quick glance at the area. an untrained eye would believe that it was just a mountain there and it technically was manny storms and close calls the tarp was covered in dirt that was growing grass on top. only the people that were taking those who were injured and the nurses knew where the building actually was. It was placed 20km behind the warzone 10 KM behind we had a circle of tents put up in another pit for those too injured to make the full trip to the building.
I worked in the north wing it was busy every day. in this time of war professional doctors like me were hard to find, usually its untrained nursed who can only do first aid like. cast up a broken arm and sew a cut closed. those with more serious injuries could not be saved. But in the building which we've nicknamed the pit, I was probably the only professional doctor on the battlefield. Some doctors were too afraid to go on the battlefield, others had worse luck than the close call we had last week and a few even died because of diseases and bacteria they got from their patients. I was busy most of the time I had a break between 12:00 and 12;30 and at the end of the day I sleep between 10:00 and 4:30, In this place nobody looked at me strangely, Nobody knew both my tattoos were the same. I once saw a nurse who found a man with the same tattoo as hers, never knew what happened between them. I think it was happy because the day that he was dismissed, she left with him I'm glad for those two.
one day when I was working one of the cleaners went missing we never knew where he went. Few of us were paranoid that he went to the other side in order to exchange information for safety. Even with the doubt we went on throughout our day trying not to worry us, The guards around the doors increased, Every time a worker at the pit leaves or suddenly disappears the security goes up for a week or two, After a week though when the guards went down when we were all relaxed, we didn't know it would happen. Our worst fears came true
