Albany and Gaia had run out of here faster than light once they hammered out a plan. I hoped it worked, but I was already convinced that I knew the answer. I couldn’t explain it, but at least Albany confirmed that my feelings weren’t totally wrong…even if hers were…they were. Totally wrong. I mean how could you love someone you only meant a short time ago? How could you feel so strongly for a person, that you were physically unable to go a day without thinking of them? How could one person make you so happy, that you forgot all about your worries, insecurities, and bad memories? How could someone make you daydream about a future with them? No sir, I didn’t know anything about love.copyright protection4PENANAFqrflpzQ0K

I was still sitting where the goddesses of love and earth had left me when Hygeia returned to this sorry excuse for a hospital. She seemed pretty surprised to find me still sitting here, but she didn’t say anything. She began to make her rounds of the other patients. My eyes followed her briefly, and then flicked back to Adele. The bleeding had stopped and she was in no real danger anymore. Hygeia even said that there would be nothing permanent to remind Adele of this battle in the future. Hygeia even promised that she could remove the inevitable scar when Adele woke up.copyright protection4PENANA2a72TXKB2J

I just sat there holding Adele’s hand thinking. Why did I feel that Blade was still alive? What connection did we share? Do we even have a connection, or am I just crazy? Maybe I should have gone to Delphi with the girls! Then I looked down at Adele and realized that the one question that really mattered to me would require me to stay here for the answer. Albany and Gaia would find out for sure, they could handle it. I shouldn’t worry about that anymore. Adele was in the hospital, my mind should be elsewhere.copyright protection4PENANAV5xuUTrox4

“Lord Dionysus.” Hygeia tapped me on the shoulder. “I will now be checking up on Lady Athena. Don’t worry, it’s just routine.”copyright protection4PENANAIduatQA2GA

“Ok.” I stood up and got out of her way.copyright protection4PENANANJLULESwfU

“Why don’t you go on and walk around. See if you can set your mind on something else.” Hygeia suggested.copyright protection4PENANAfaZMFUF6id

            “I’d rather be here…” I began to argue.copyright protection4PENANAb1rGcUwNWd

“I insist. Lady Athena will not be waking up today most likely. Go on.” Hygeia told me quietly but firmly.copyright protection4PENANAnKW9EINxe3

I understood that it was an order, not a suggestion. “Ok, could you tell me if something happens?” I asked beginning to walk towards the door.copyright protection4PENANAsuesgUmW1F

“I said she wouldn’t be waking up today.” Hygeia said once again. “Are you trying to tell me you think that I’m wrong?”copyright protection4PENANAacHBTTvpGs

“No.” I said hastily. “Not at all…I guess I’ll be back tomorrow.”copyright protection4PENANAC4czdRh1pw

“Do that.” Hygeia muttered taking Adele’s temperature.copyright protection4PENANA5R0kjheGdg

Not knowing where I should go, I just began walking. Just walking with no destination. Pretty soon I ran out of space, I had reached the edge of the city. I approached and then leaned up on the railings that encircle the city. I gazed over the edge and peered down, there was nothing in the field now. Everything had been cleaned up.copyright protection4PENANAlnt2ZmWuLD

“Blade can’t be dead.” I told myself. I’m not calling anyone a liar, but I didn’t see it with my own eyes, so I had doubts.copyright protection4PENANAXoH9YV1fXq

Wait a minute! I didn’t see Blade die, but I could still see his body! That would definitely give me a for sure answer. Nodding, I headed off. I doubt that Olympus had a graveyard, so I had no clue where the body was being kept. But I kept walking, I’d just ask the first person that I came across.copyright protection4PENANAL3iMnB3Chh

Apparently the center of Olympus is the only place that is inhabited because I literally meet no one until I made it outside the throne room. I mean really? City of the gods and no one is there, what’s up with that?copyright protection4PENANASDEmGEIC8t

I found Eric flexing for some nymphs inside a small willow groove complete with a small pond. I waited until the nymphs stopped laughing at him and disappeared back into their trees before moving in to talk to him.copyright protection4PENANAf6SXgQSh6Q

“Hey buddy!” I shouted. “Could I ask you something?”copyright protection4PENANAIST0EhCIUU

Eric glared at me, then began kicking a tree and saying some not nice things about the nymphs moral character.copyright protection4PENANAZMyE8eiRQq

            “Yo bro! I need some help.”copyright protection4PENANAl5xd2N4V5b

“WHAT?” Eric asked finishing his assault on nature with a nasty piece of phlegm.copyright protection4PENANAMN3FOIXqqR

“Calm down, they can’t travel more than twenty feet from their tree anyway dude.” I told him. Adele had filled me in on this; she knew everything about Greek stuff. “So just go find a tree on the other side of town. But before you do that, I need to know where Blade’s body is.”copyright protection4PENANAlpET3N7lEX

“Why would you need to know something like that?” Eric asked cracking his knuckles.copyright protection4PENANAMZ3jd57h1c

I was scared of Eric, like I had a nightmare once with him in it. But the trick with people like Eric is to pretend they don’t scare you. It’s only a theory, so use caution when practicing.copyright protection4PENANAtNZwtNfreF

“Answer my question.” Eric said, now touching his toes. The way he was stretching you’d think that he was about to play a basketball game.copyright protection4PENANAiA5Xt9KBup

I figured that Eric would not take to kindly to me saying that I thought Blade was still alive, especially in his current state. (I didn’t want to be spit on by the war god, spit was more trouble than it was worth on Olympus)copyright protection4PENANAzhoCBBIITK

“Adele is hurt because of him.” I said, which was kind of true. “I want to spit on his dead body.” I added, which was not true. Remember, if you become a god/goddess; be careful with your spit.copyright protection4PENANAUmxUT1I9sX

Eric smiled wickedly. “He would deserve it.” Eric nodded. “Herman is guarding him, or whatever is left. He should be in the shrine to Hades. We thought it was appropriate to keep the body there.” Eric chuckled to himself. He then pulled out his mace and began swinging it in a circle. “I hate trees.” He said smiling like a maniac. Before I could say anything, Eric swung his mace at the tree that he had been kicking. “How do you like me now!” He demanded still swinging his weapon.copyright protection4PENANAOLxUI13sDy

“Ok.” I muttered. “Time to leave.” And leave I did. Don’t get in the war god’s way and you’ll go far.copyright protection4PENANARcQgOrSxaM

So I made my way towards the shrine that Eric had talked about. It wasn’t very far, and when I reached it I saw that Herman was indeed standing guard outside.copyright protection4PENANAh59PZ2QIbj

“Hey.” He said when I got close. “You wanna see the body?”copyright protection4PENANAF04dVMeYfR

            “That’s why I’m here.” I told him.copyright protection4PENANAx74nnTPfqZ

“Yeah, you and everybody else. This guy is Mr. Popularity now that he’s dead. Almost every person on this mountain had come to see this dead god of the dead.” Herman informed me.copyright protection4PENANA2H4bx4dnMp

“Not every day you see a dead deity.” I told him. “So can I just go right in?”copyright protection4PENANAGrqLFlxUkN

“Yeah, he’s not busy.” Herman said cracking a smile. “He’s got all day.”copyright protection4PENANAMRUQfhJ4x9

I entered the shrine to Hades, careful to close the door behind me. I had never really talked to Herman before, so I didn’t know if he’d take to kindly to me saying I thought Blade was alive.copyright protection4PENANA3AR8LocYMY

The shrine was smaller than I would have thought, but then again, who comes to a shrine to the lord of death for fun. That’s right…emo kids. CUT YOUR HAIR AND BUY JEANS WITHOUT FIVE FREAKING HOLES ALL UP AND DOWN THE LEG! Sorry, people annoy me.copyright protection4PENANAotqPe5aMZu

Anyway, small shrine. So the shrine was really just one small room with a few torches on the wall and an altar in the middle of everything. Resting on the altar was a body covered in a black burial shroud.copyright protection4PENANAzLmuCBMlFk

I approached the altar slowly. I wasn’t totally comfortable with this idea of Blade being dead but not dead, if I was even right at all that is. Not knowing what else to do, I reached for the shroud.copyright protection4PENANAvJUnRFM3Ey

“What are you doing?” I turned around to see Hestia and Nyx standing behind me.copyright protection4PENANA122sRhx23x

I pulled my hand away from the shroud quickly. “Oh, I just didn’t know Blade was dead. I just heard about it like twenty minutes ago. So I came to see for myself.”copyright protection4PENANAxDjT7VvTha

Hestia eyed me. But Nyx replied. “Some things cannot be unseen. You should count yourself lucky you weren’t there to watch.” She approached the altar and stood right next to me. Gingerly, she rested her hand on the edge of the altar. “Trust me. Some things are better left to be imagined. That will spare you the most gruesome images.”copyright protection4PENANAdMT79LNVOr

“You think I can’t handle this?” I asked. I was actually kind of offended. They were like parents trying to tell me I couldn’t watch a PG-13 movie until I was actually 13. How lame.copyright protection4PENANAuQuwilNQoR

“Deon, this is nothing personal.” Nyx muttered turning around and returning to Hestia’s side. “I’m only advising you not to look. Haven’t you learned by now? You’re a god! There are only two people that you need to take orders from, yourself and then of course Zeus.” With that Nyx turned tail and exited the shrine.copyright protection4PENANAoVvHPCDkwU

Hestia hadn’t moved since she had entered the shrine. “I ran into Gaia before coming here.” She told me. Her tone of voice told me that she knew what had happened at Adele’s bedside in the hospital.copyright protection4PENANAvKHpSQaFMZ

“You did?” I muttered, not sure where this was going.copyright protection4PENANA6gPAN7WBYl

Hestia looked over her shoulder, making sure Nyx was gone, and then she said. “There is a reason Nyx said you take orders from yourself AND THEN Zeus.” Hestia whispered. “Lightning is fickle, and often it causes unnecessary damage. It is the rain’s duty to warn the world that a storm is coming, and to clean up afterwards. Do you understand?”copyright protection4PENANAtmgY46BIr7

I nodded that I did in fact catch her meaning. Zack had a habit of causing problems.copyright protection4PENANACWSkmKawqX

“Good.” She looked over her shoulder again. “I think it best that we know for sure.” Hestia muttered pointing to the shroud. “Cover all our bases. I told Gaia the same thing. I’ve been around a long time.” Hestia muttered. “I’ve learned how to smell trouble through all those years. Right now I feel like there are fifty perfume bottles under my nose. I do not feel good about this entire situation.” With that she turned around and made her way to the door. When she reached it she looked back at me over her shoulder. “Cover all our bases. We have to be sure” and then she left.copyright protection4PENANAwxel81t5Dr

I stared at the door thinking on what I had heard. Hestia was having doubts about this too! Others were sharing my thoughts. Could the lord of death really die?copyright protection4PENANAq6OH4TNGBe

I turned around and faced the answer to my question. All I had to do was lift up that shroud, lift it up and check to see what was under it. Nyx’s voice echoed in my head. “Trust me. Some things are better left to be imagined.” I didn’t think that was true. Not knowing one way or the other…that was just that much more frightening. Having no idea what was true, that is where your imagination becomes your enemy. Your brain takes one ‘What if?’ and uses it to make everything you know one big question mark.copyright protection4PENANANebGyxqJ4R

I once again reached for the shroud. My hand moved slowly and cautiously, like I was preforming surgery. As nervous and scared as I was, my hand was as steady as a rock. Finally after what seemed like hours, my hand rested upon the fabric of the shroud. It was cold…no not cold it wasn’t cold. There was merely an absence of heat. The shroud was thick and coarse. My fingers found the edge of the shroud, and burrowed their way underneath. I stood poised to rip it off all at once, but something stopped me. Instead I gently lifted the shroud. Very slowly, I was barely moving it at first. Then my hand gained speed, swiftly dragged the shroud down, toward the foot of the altar. I paused right before I was about to reveal the face.copyright protection4PENANAGAoUVwWpBA

            Taking a deep breath I resumed the unmasking.copyright protection4PENANAR1HFJLzwsa
