Killian was still in the house and I was in the passenger seat of his Mercedes Benz, listening to nineties hip hop on the radio. Even though I’m not full African-American, I still love the nineties era. That’s what I get for having a Spanish mom and a African-American dad, growing up listening to all genres of music. Plus, I needed to calm down after that bloody corpse. My eyes still couldn’t unseen that.
As soon as Killian got out of the house, I noticed someone in the shed near the house was glaring at me. The entity had red eyes that were glowing even in daylight, as soon as the entity appeared in the sunlight, I knew what is was, and I didn’t like it at all. Fucking daywalker. I wasn’t sure if it was going to charge at me or Killian, I couldn’t tell anyways. But I could tell that this bloodsucker was thirsty for blood. Bloodlust my ass.
I wasn’t having it today. So I grabbed my gun out of my gun holder, and got out of his Mercedes and tried to talk the daywalker like a human being.
“Hey, you,” I shouted. “What are you doing inside of the shed?”
The daywalker shrugged.
“Do you live in the shed?”
It shrugged again.
“If you don’t know then maybe you should leave this place. You’re trespassing, so technically it’s a crime.” I said.
“But, I’m gonna let you off with a warning though. But there will be no next time. Ya hear?”
Then the daywalker hissed at me.
I pointed my gun at it and I shot the daywalker in the arm. But it didn’t even flinch or move, but kept hissing at me.
Killian saw what I was doing and hung up the phone whoever he was talking to and ran over to the shed to help me. “What happened?”
I pointed at the daywalker with my finger. “See for yourself.”
Killian turned around and noticed that there were more daywalkers behind us. “Maya? You might wanna turn around,” He told me worriedly.
As I turned around, there were at least fifteen daywalkers ready to feed off us.
Their stance looked like they were ready to attack us. And we were ready to attack them.
“Y’all wanna do the easy way or the hard way?”
One daywalker decided to spit acid from its mouth. But it missed us, and I could tell it was toxic acid because once its spit landed on the hood of an old truck that Val use to drive, the whole hood started to melt off. Ah hell.
“The hard way it is.” I muttered.
Killian gave a nod as we both pointed our guns at the daywalkers.
“Ready, Killian?”
“Always.”
Then all fifteen daywalkers lunged at us. We were shooting our guns at them but it seemed like the bullets were not helping. Silver usually kills every vampires, and sometimes werewolves.
As they came closer, we ran back into Val’s house and hid there.
“Lock the door, Maya!” Killian shouted.
“I don’t know where her key is,” I told him. “She usually keeps it on her the whole time. Plus, she has no spares anywhere.”
Killian scoffed. “Fair enough.”
“Are the daywalkers still outside? I don’t see them anymore.”
Killian looked out the window, from his left to his right. He claims that they’re gone already.
“Did you try throwing something out the door?”
“Like what?”
I grabbed a broom from beneath the coffee table that Val always keeps and never puts it in the closet. And then, Killian threw the broom outside to see if we’re safe. Unfortunately, the daywalkers had spit on the broom stick and it immediately was broken in half.
Killian’s face concerned me because he was wandering back and forth contemplating how we could get out of here without the daywalkers melting our skins off. It was irritating for me to see Killian thinking back and forth because of the daywalkers appearing out of nowhere and trying to attack us.
I sighed, and grabbed my cell phone out of my pants pocket.
“Who are you calling?” he asked. “It’s not time to call your mom, Maya.”
“I’m calling a friend who can help us out.”
“Who?”
“Isaac.”
“Who’s Isaac?”
“A real good friend of mine who knows a way to get rid of daywalkers for good.”
I could tell that Killian was panicking. I thought he was a tough guy. Eh, who knows.
“Relax, Killian. We’ll be out of the house soon, I promise.” I said softly, so he understands I am calm, and he should do the same.
He nodded, wiping the sweat off his forehead.
“Hello?” Isaac answered the phone. He had a voice of a real Mexican.
“Hey, Isaac, it’s Maya Jaxon.”
“What’s up, Maya?”
“Grab your posse and bring any hazardous shit, ’cause we’re in trouble.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. Who’s we?”
“Me and Killian. We just got done investigating Val’s murder, for now.”
“You’re near the Bronx, aren’t ya, hermosa?"
“Yes, and don’t call me that.”
“All right, mija. I’ll be there ASAP.”
“Thanks, Isaac.”
“No problem.”
We both hung up the phone.
“What did Isaac say?”
“He said that he’s coming to help us as soon as possible.”
“Okay, good.” Killian was geting hives on his neck and palms.
“Oh no.”
“What?” Killian started scratching the hives.
“You have hives on your neck and your hands!”
“Wait, what?!”
“I’m serious, look at the refection of the window.”
He turned to the window. And what he saw on him was atrocious. The hives were getting bigger, almost like a boil but worse. It was blistering up, and it made me sick to my stomach.
“I think you got infected by the daywalkers’ spit.”
“Ah shit!” Then he fainted, landing on his back.
I sighed again. This is exactly why I didn’t want to work with men. I thought in my head.
Suddenly, I heard glass breaking in the back room of the house.
I grabbed my gun out of the holder, and I slowly grabbed Killian’s gun out of his holder, so I can kill more than one daywalker at a time. These daywalkers were slow paced than regular vampires, so I could easily kill them. I pointed both guns towards the back room, and waited.
“Come out, you stupid daywalking bloodsuckers,” I yelled. “Come out and show yourselves.”
Then two daywalkers, one male and one female, ran so slow that I instantly shot them both in the legs.
They hissed at me, which I had no idea what it meant, but I ignored it, of course.
After I shot them in the legs, they lunged a little close to me, so I put the guns in both holders, and grabbed my double daggers, and lunged at them. I slashed the male daywalker’s neck. He didn’t die though, but then I grabbed the female daywalker by the hair and slit her throat. She coughing up blood, and now she couldn’t do anything to kill me, because she was about to die soon.
Now, the male daywalker got mad at me for killing her, I’m guessing they were lovers, because he started to shed crimson tears.
I would’ve brought my flamethrower, if I knew this would’ve happened before.
I had to finish off him. So, I covered his mouth with my hand and before he would spit on my hand I drove the dagger into his throat. So he wouldn’t do try any spitting at me.
Then I heard Isaac’s posse with the flamethrowers. Thank you, Jesus.
Now, I had to wake up Killian without getting infected by the blistering hives that he caught. Killian was so out of it, that I slapped him so hard that he’d wake up. It worked, though.
“What was that for?”
“You passed out. So I slapped you can wake up.”
Killian looked around his surroundings. He noticed the two daywalkers on the floor that I barely killed.
“Did you do this?”
I nodded. “I had no choice.”
“Why am I warm all of a sudden?”
“Because Isaac’s here with his posse to burn all the daywalkers here.” I told him. “But we need to get out of here before we burned to a crisp.”
Killian nodded. “I agree.”
I helped him up without touching his poisonous hives. Because one touch, then you’re infected. We opened the front door and Isaac and his posse were here and they’d burn all of the daywalkers that were attacking us. Then, not that long after, the coroner showed up to take away Val’s body.
“I know it’s almost eight in the morning, but I want to rest my eyes before we report everything back to Harry.”
“Okay, that’s fine.”
“But let me say something to Isaac first.”
Killian nodded. “Very well.”
So, I walked over to the side of the house and Isaac was putting his flamethrower away in his duffel bag.
“Isaac Ramirez, the one who had been by my side since birth.”
“Hey, mija,” he said. “How’s it going?”
“Well, it’s going, gotta tell you.” I laughed a little.
“I feel that, by the way, when are you gonna let me join the SBI?”
“I never said to join the SBI. Plus, can we talk about this later?”
“Fine, but don’t think I’ll have your back next time.”
I rolled my eyes, and walked away.”
As I got into Kilian’s Mercedes Benz, I was getting a massive headache from everything today. It was a long morning, even longer since I needed to report what happened over here. Every. Single. Detail. Ugh, why?
“Can you take me home first? I can take my car and meet you at Harry’s office in an hour.”
“Okay, you got it,” he said.
And we drove off and Killian took me home, so I can rest for a little bit. At last.
