I looked over to where the voice was coming from. The next-door neighbor to the Bakery was the Deli.
A handsome six-foot tall guy with hazelnut hair and clear green eyes looked over at me. I smiled at him as he went back to work.
Whenever he had free time, he would come over to talk to me and Bakery Boy with Nick.
He walked over to me and said “Hey, I’m Matt.”
I always seemed to smile whenever he was around. He made me laugh and I don’t know why I just wanted to impress him, and I never wanted to let him down.
It’s like I was always looking for his approval. Weird that I actually started to like my job because he made it less stressful.
Each day that I worked, I would hope that he would be working too, so that I could talk to him, or at least see his smile.
Eventually, he invited me to go eat food with him and some friends at Buffalo Wild Wings. I got really excited that he actually invited me to hang out with him outside of work.
Unfortunately, there was something stopping me from fully embracing my happiness with this guy. My boyfriend.
—————————————————————————
Let’s learn a little about him, eh?
I had been dating this guy ever since I had graduated. I met him at my graduation. He came from a slightly messed up family of seven.
He had anger issues, an addiction to anime, a small obsession with having kids, and getting married immediately.
He was a good kid, but he wasn’t the one for me. I realized I wasn’t in the relationship I wanted to be in, and I didn’t like where it was going.

Now, back to the invite. I decided that I was gonna go because I wanted to spend time with Matt.
I asked my parents if I could go and they were like ok, but bring your sister.
That day, I was working the closing shift, 12pm-9pm. They were going to leave at nine and I really wanted to go. The first couple of nights that I had to close alone, I was taking a little longer than I should’ve.
The first night I closed alone, I worked an hour and twenty minutes of overtime. Also keep in mind that I was used to working 12pm-9pm and having plenty of time to do things. This time, I was working 5pm-9pm because I had just started college and I had to close every Tuesday and Thursday night.
The longest night that I ever worked was from 5pm-10:20pm. It was terrible because I had all of these things to do and customers to help, and I hadn’t gotten adjusted to doing all of it at once.
Because I was closing that Wednesday night, I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it in time to leave and hang out with the group of people going to Buffalo Wild Wings.
Savion, my friend from the Deli, was asking me if I was going to do the challenge. I was like “yeah”, but I had no idea what I was agreeing to.
He turned around and was like, “Hey Matt, she’s gonna do the challenge.”
“No way.” He said as he looked at me.
“What did I just agree to?” I asked. They both laughed and then Matt explained it.
“Oh alright, yeah I’ll do that.” I replied.
Later that night, I was moping and Matt came out of nowhere. He asked if I was going and I said I was going to try my best, and I wasn’t sure if I was going to finish in time. He looked at me, smiled, and said, “Just do it fast, so you can go.”
When he said that, it inspired me to mop faster. I got a little stressed when I was going to empty the mop bucket, and he showed up again. He said, “Do you want me to help you with that?” And I nodded. He helped me, smiled and then disappeared.
I finished on time. I was so proud of myself for actually finishing on time that night. I was even more excited that I could go.
I speed walked to the break room so I could clock out, and then I ran to go find them. I saw Savion, Blake, Matt, Kaleb, and Bakery Boy walking out of the automatic doors.
I caught up with Matt outside.
“You made it.” He said as he smiled at me.
“Yeah.”
“Did you wanna catch a ride with us…or did you wanna drive yourself?”
“My sister was gonna drive me, but I can tell her not to come if it’s okay to catch a ride with you.”
I looked down as my phone was buzzing. It was my sister, Lina. I answered and she said she was in the parking lot.
I spotted her car and I walked over to her. I spotted my boyfriend’s car parked next to hers. My heart felt heavy as I knew my plans were a little ruined.
My sister had invited my boyfriend to go with us to Buffalo Wild Wings.
We drove over in Lina’s car. Blake drove some people in his car, and Bakery Boy drove some people in his.
We all got to BWW (Buffalo Wild Wings) and we sat down at a table. I had never been there before, so I didn’t know what to get.
I was scanning the menu with my eyes, and I settled for some quesadillas. I knew the boys were all going to do the challenge, and apparently I was too.
They asked about the challenge and the waiter said that the challenge wasn’t a thing anymore and that we could time ourselves, but not win anything.
We were like “whatever, we don’t care”, and we got the hottest wings they had. Matt remembered to save some for me, and my boyfriend did one to be brave I guess.
His eyes were watering and all I got were some burning lips. I think I was the bravest looking one, even though I only ate one.
Poor Kaleb ate the wings and then he rubbed his eyes. The spiciness burned his eyes and his lips, and my boyfriend guided him into the bathroom.
I was snapchatting a lot of it, occasionally getting footage of Matt.
I kept casually looking over at him, because well (if you haven't gotten the hint), I liked Matt.
----------------------------------------------
About one month into working at the Bakery, I kept getting visited more and more by Matt. He would surprise me. Soon, I began to learn that everyone at Albertsons could probably be a trained assassin...(if they wanted to) because of how easily they could sneak up on me.
One day, I was mopping and I felt his presence. I turned and saw him there. I had never been this physically close to him before. My heart started beating faster as I froze with the mop in my hands.
We looked at each other for about two minutes in complete silence. I leaned up against the proofer and accidentally knocked down one of the pins holding up the calendar. I was so nervous around him. I didn't know what I would do if I were left alone with him for one more minute.
I tried to pull myself together as I confronted him and asked him why he cornered me.
"You cornered yourself." He replied and I scoffed as I felt this vibe that he liked me too.
I tried to keep my distance for the next couple weeks, but I couldn't get him out of my head.
I decided to sabotage myself by taking a bunch of classes so that I wouldn't have time to work or hang out with my boyfriend. I was avoiding both of them.
Eventually, I confessed my feelings to Matt. He confessed his too. Everything was almost perfect. The next day, I broke up with my boyfriend. I had to end it with him before I could move on.
The good thing about this was that I didn't actually cheat. I kept myself together and I was honest with my ex about why I did it.
