I can see the roof of the cabin, Becky and I are in, having a stand off with eachother, Mitchell and Veronica, but this is still a memory.
"Hi... How are you feeling?" A female voice asks and I feel a weight beside me. It feels like I'm on a bed. I can't control what I'm doing as I have to watch this memory play out, in my body, but I look beside me to see Veronica sitting there, cross-legged with a small smile.
"I feel cold." I whimper.
"Aw, I'm sorry. You've had a warm shower though, you'll warm up soon.
Till then, snuggle under the covers as these will make you feel warmer." She says, pulling the blanket up, tucking me in.
"How's she doing?" Mitchell asks, walking in with Zekey on his lead.
"She's better." Veronica answers.
"Good, good." Mitchel responds.
"Is Aiden on his way?" She asks.
"Uh, yeah..." He trails off and then he bends down to me. "Have you had enough dinner?"
"The toast you gave me?" I ask.
"Yeah.
"It was enough." I tell him. "Thank you."
And then I start squirming around under the blankets. "Is someone a wriggly worm?" Veronica teases, roughing me up through the blanket and I let out a series of laughs.
Mitchell smiles and lets go of Zekey's lead so he jumps up onto the bed and I feel his mouth go around my foot, but he quickly lets go. "That hurts!" I laugh and he curls up beside me to sleep.
Mitchell smiles and opens his mouth to say something when we hear a door open and feet across the floor.
The door to the old guest bedroom opens and I see Aiden come in. "Yo, what's the problem? Why call me out here-" But then he's silent and I see an un-lit cigarette fall out of his mouth onto the wooden floor and he points to me.
"Why did you bring her here?!"
"Aiden, her bones aren't broken amazingly and this isn't Becky Winters..." Veronica tells him.
"What do you mean?" He snarls.
"See for yourself." Mitchell snaps and Aiden walks towards the bed, briefly giving Zekey a pat.
"I've always had a soft spot for dogs..." He murmurs. "Me too." I giggle and reach a finger out, touching his nose.
"Boop!" I squeal and laughter from my friends ensues and Aiden steps back astounded.
"W-what is this? Okay, I'm pissed you saved her life, but... I believe you. This isn't her-"
And then I let out a cry of pain and kneel over. Veronica hugs me close, tightly, worried.
The pain goes away as quickly as it came. "Where did it hurt?" Aiden asks.
"C-chest..." I whimper and then he pulls out a stethoscope and places it ontop of my shirt.
"Relax, I won't hurt you. I just want to listen."
He removes it a moment later. "Has she vomited at all? Any seizures?" He asks. My friends shake their heads. "No." Mitchell tells him.
"Okay, um. Her heart sounds off, but I'm not my Mum. I'll... see what I can do to help. I'll visit my Mum, spin a story or something and steal if need be.
We might have caused a heart irregularity... Or, Becky has an undiagnosed heart condition she didn't know which we made worse. It sounds weird."
"Uh... Alright." Veronica stammers as he pockets a stethoscope. "Can I ask what took you so long?" Mitchell demands.
"Finishing my shift at the coffee shop."
"Are you sure?"
"I have a life, Mitchell. That doesn't include shady going on's and drug deals 24/7." Aiden snaps, then he turns to face me.
"Now, Becky-"
"I'm not Becky!" I protest, kicking my feet. "Oh? Well, who are you then?" He asks seriously and my friends eyes are on me too, deeply.
"Don't know." I shrug. "Now, can I play with that worm you had?" I smile, tilting my head. He places his hand on his chest, tears threatening to spell.
"Aiden?" Mitchell asks, placing a head on Aiden's shoulder, but Aiden shakes it off. "She reminds me of my baby sister..."
"Oh... really?" Veronica asks.
"Yeah...." Aiden trails off. "Okay, your name is Libby. Do you understand?"
"After her?" Veronica gasps.
"Yes." Aiden tells her and then tries to give me a hug, but I cry and start to kick so he steps away while I yell, "Nooo!"
"Alright, doesn't like me it seems. No problem, I can work with this. You both stay here with her, I'll take a trip into town and come back."
"Dude, you can't be serious! We've been missing for days! The longer we're missing, the more questions asked when we re-surface. We can't live in the forest forever with a dog and Libby!" Mitchell yells.
"Not my problem." Aiden shrugs. Mitchell starts to hiss and Aiden back-tracks.
"Alright, alright. Look, I'll... wipe Libby's memory a bit like I did with Becky to prevent her from remembering her kidnapping, but she is just as prone to re-lapse.
You both saved Libby here so you're responsible for her, bring her back into town if you wish, but you never rat me out, understand? Or I will ruin you both.
I'll find you shelter. Anything else you need, take care of on your own. Be her big brother and sister with a dog. Enjoy playing happy family! I'll figure something out and be back, wait for me." And then Aiden storms out of the cabin, to go back to town. I hear his motorbike outside, start up and his gone.
"We're royally fucked." Mitchell states. "D-Ditto..." Veronica stammers and Zekey lets out a small yap. I'm tearing up and they look to me. "Ah, hey, don't cry, it's okay!" Veronica worries, but I keep crying and she tries to wipe my eyes.
"U-uh-uh!" Mitchell stammers and I see him race out of the room and come back in with a small tin and he shakes it. "You want a biscuit?"
I nod excitedly. "Well, clear those tears up. Be the big girl you know you can be and you can have a biscuit. There's not many though."
"I'm am a big girl!" I announce as I wipe my own tears away. Veronica chuckles and hands me a tin, lid removed. I pull a choc-chip biscuit out and start munching away on it.
"Hey... she needs a last name." Mitchell points out. "Woah, hey, hey! Don't eat all the biscuits, save some for us!" Veronica panics, taking the tin away from me as I reach my hand in, grabbing five more.
"B-but I love cookies! They're my favorite food!" I protest and then they look to eachother and a smile forms on both their faces.
"Libby Biscuit!" They both say at the same time.
After that, the memory ends and I see a brief one from a few days later, nearly a month and Aiden drugs me, then Veronica and Mitchell who slide into the front seat of a car I'm in, late at night and then he takes off, leaving us to fend for ourselves.
I'm struggling to stay awake and Zekey's whimpering in the back-seat next to me. I can see a city and random things in my mind, but they feel de-tached at first and slowly begin to feel normal, then I feel my eyes flutter closed.
---
"Libby, stop thinking so hard! My nose, it's bleeding!" A voice cries and I see blood staining our clothes. Becky has her hand to our nose, but it's not stemming the bleeding. We spend the next five minutes trying to stop the bleeding and I manage to keep Veronica and Mitchel alive, worried Becky will be reckless and kill them.
The gun we were holding is on the table where we left and I see Mitchell is shifting at his binds and he almost has one wrist undone.
Becky turns to glare and I can sense and her hear say to herself that she's going to pull that trigger. "NO!" I scream out-loud, fighting back and I feel like I'm thrown forward, hitting the ground.
"W-what?!" I hear Becky stammer like she's in shock and I hear gasps from my friends. "Oh my god..." Veronica murmurs. The dirty, wooden floor is beneath my face and I stand up slowly, wiping dust from my clothes so the knees don't stay stained, turn around and I see Becky standing right across from me, mouth agape and the gun has fallen from her hand.
Becky's there and I'm over here, my ethereal tail that was attached over there is now over here while she maintains just her own. I look over myself, I'm wearing colorful, childish clothes and shoes, I have a backpack on my back with fake angel wings sticking out the sides of it and my hair, is long and raven, tied into two pigtails, but also plaited down 3/4 of my body side by side, tied off by light purple ribbons.
My skin is a dark brown colour compared to my friends who are the opposite to me, including Becky.
Becky grits her teeth and clenches her fists. "What are you, Libby?" She demands, tone of voice, angry and threatening.
"I-I don't know! I think the question here is who am I truly?!" I exclaim. "And do you see the ethereal tails?!"
They all look around the room and shake their heads. So, I'm the only one who sees ethereal tails... Veronica and Mitchell have their own tails too, coming down through the roof from the sky. "Are you feeling okay, Libby?" Mitchell whispers.
"Not any worse for wear than Becky here." I sneer, looking at her accusingly.
"Ugh, that's- fair... It's fair. You know what? Fine!" She hisses back in response.
"You're being mean. I don't want you here anymore, Becky. Just get out, go away. If you want to kill yourself, go ahead. But don't drag me into it, just leave my friends alone!" I tell her.
"Yeah? Well, guess what? I hate you too!" She shouts at me.
"Becky, walk away." Veronica pipes up.
"Excuse me-" Becky starts.
"Becky Winters, just leave! Leave town and go where-ever, do whatever it is you want." Mitchell pipes up too.
"I don't even know what you are or who you are, but you look as if you're only a tween or something. So much younger than us.
I don't mind a sister the same as me, but I don't want to be babysitting one who's a literal baby!" Becky yells at me.
"You're becoming irrational now." Veronica speaks. "See? This is why nobody likes you here!"
"I have friends!"
"Which is only a very small number now if we count them up." Veronica fires back.
"Ugh, I'm out of here!" Becky yells heading towards the door, leaving her gun behind. I see her ethereal tail start to bend and stretch. It's being pushed to it's limit. "Becky, stop! Don't cross that threshold!" I call out to her, taking a step forward and reaching my arm out.
She turns around and I see her tether start to lessen, no longer strained.
"What do you want from me?"
"If you cross the threshold which is the door, you'll die! I can see your ethereal tail, including my own and Veronica and Mitchell's too. Yours is going to snap!"
"Libby, I don't care for religious nonsense. Didn't pick you for being spiritual or whatever, and I don't care about you either, I use people to get what I want, you know? And I have, I've been feeding you lies the whole time, I feed lies to everyone I'm around and is in my life." Becky begins. "And to prove nothing will happen, I'll go out there."
She takes another step towards the door, her tether starting to hurt again and I immediately feel mine become strained too and I collapse to the floor, crying in pain.
"Becky, mines no longer attached to yours now that I'm no longer sharing your body, but you're still my chosen path and I'm here for a reason! You're the reason I exist! If you go out there, we both will die and we'll also become disconnected from this world, I fear and believe!" I plead with her.
She shrugs her shoulders and leaves with out a second word. I feel pain from my tether worsen and I manage to climb to my feet and run towards Becky to pull her back into the room, but she's older, taller than and me, grasps my arms to stop me and I feel her stumble back.
Both our tails are glowing more intensely now that were closer to eachother and I see they have entwined together. Mitchell manages to break out of his binds while Veronica's still stuck, but he's too slow and we trip, falling outside the doorway and I see both our ethereal tails fade and snap, but a blinding white light fills the room and I feel all my senses go numb, but not before seeing Becky's panicked face and her eyes are looking right at our entwined tails. I know she's seen them and then, it's merely just lights out for both of us.
---
Where am I? It's dark here. No colors, no orbs, no smells, sound or hidden messages or messages in general meant for me, it's just nothing. I can't even seen my own arm in-front of my face.
I know what I am, I remember why I'm here. But ending up in Becky's body was not part of the plan.
Do I even have an arm or does my body no longer exist because my tail snapped and this world snuffed me out like it snuffed the light and every other little detail out? I wasn't told what to do if this happened.
"My baby?"
I flinch, hearing a voice and there's a shadowy figure in the distance, coming closer and closer till all light and colour is injected into who ever it is, she's female. A tall female who has the same skin colour as me, she looks like me actually, but as an adult.
"Who are you?" I demand, trying to move around, but I can't because I don't even have a body. I know my mission, what I am. But I can't remember her...
"I'm your Mum." She responds, looking sad and wipes a tear from the corner of her eye.
"My Mum?" I ask. "Yes." She nods, struggling to fight back tears. "Your Dad and I have only ever had one baby and that was you." She tells me.
"Who are you, other than my Mum if that's what your claiming?" I demand. She nods softly, all tears dried and bends down to my point of view that I can see her clearly. Her dark skin is heavily freckled, she has glowing white hair up in a ponytail, tied off by a bright red ribbon that's floating around as if it's alive and is wearing a white nightie with a black cardigan and lace up boots with fake fur ruffle on her feet.
"Weird clothing combination." I murmur. "That's true, it is. But you know what, my baby? I like it." She answers.
"Who are you?" I repeat. She places her hands on her knees as she's bending down and gives me a small smile even though I can see her eyes are sad.
"My name is Kiki. I'm the current God of all worlds who oversees karma, balance and more. I'm the law of cycles.
You know you're here to save Becky, and that you're special. But it seems something memories are missing, locked away after what you went through.
You're my daughter who I named Savannah, but you've always preferred to be called, 'Sav'.
I sent you on a mission as an Angel to help whoever needed help regardless that you thought you didn't have what it took to assist me with my work, but you do, only you just don't see it because you lack confidence and faith in yourself.
And the girl you've come to know as Becky Winters ethereal tail has snapped as well as your own. While that's not a bad thing, it just means the Core's tasks have been made a little harder, although...
You Savannah have been cut off from me now alongside Becky. It happens to Humans and Angel's alike sometimes,
Restoring connections can... take some time and I've managed to locate Becky Winters soul luckily as a friend of mine, you're aunty, remember? Mitzi saw where it landed and reached out to collect it, but now Becky has a body that's going to die because it's empty and you've been cut off from me and while that's sad, perhaps wandering around as a Human or partial-angel, but with their powers and original appearance blocked or muted will do you a world of good.
I still love you and even if you don't remember me, yourself or your mission from here on out, it's still possible to do good work, even though you have a human life of your own to shape now.
"What are you saying?!" I beg, starting to cry. "I'm letting you go and it won't be forever, but sometimes there are lessons we need to learn and for your past 13 runs, trying to complete your missions, you haven't had any personal growth at all, not even once and if you love someone, Savannah, sometimes it's best to let them go.
I'll see you again one day, I'll always believe in you and nothing you do can destroy my love for you and make me disappointed in you, and the day I see you again, I hope you've found yourself and grown up. Till we see each other again."
She gives me a hug, and then she's gone. "I'll let you out of the void now and send you back to your friends." I hear her say from a distance and then I see twinkling lights form a forest all around me before it comes closer and closer, colour injected into and the night sky forms above me.
I hear coughing, slight arguing and feel myself being dragged across the ground, sticks and rocks jabbing me.
We're soaked as it's starting to rain. Looking up, I see Veronica and Mitchell trying to drag me together outside towards Becky's ute. I'm in Becky's body and I try to wrack my brain for the last thing I remember, but all there is me trying to stop Becky from wanting to shoot them both dead and then it's just... blank, nothingness.
I call out for Becky, but I can't feel her and I turn my attention back towards my friends.
"Guys?" I call out and I feel them accidentally drop me in shock against the ground.
"S-sorry!" I hear them both apologize at the same time. I sit up to look at them.
"She's gone, Becky's gone."
They have a weird expression on their faces and Veronica goes to open her mouth for a moment, but then she closes it.
