Laura quickly kissed my cheek.

I laughed, “Are you having fun?”
“Yes, and I can’t believe there’s Hula Dancers. I always wanted to learn, but I’m not good at dancing.”
“But you know how to move your hips. I experienced it firsthand.”
“Stop,” she tried chastising me in a low whisper. “Someone might hear you.”
I chuckled but kept my voice lowered. “I love when you’re shy and then wild in bed. It turns me on.”
“Hush,” she blushed. “Rex don’t tease me. I’m excited and would like to learn the traditional dances.”
“Mom can teach you. She’s very good.”
“Are you sure she won’t mind?”
I motioned for Laura to check out the scene nearby. Mom was playfully dancing around Kristoff.
“She’s amazing,” Laura sighed. “I can’t wait to learn.”
I smiled, “You’re part of our family, so it’s important you know my Grandmother’s side. We visit Hawaii three times a year. Hopefully, you’ll be able to come.”
“Say when,” Laura quickly replied. “I have so many vacation days. I’ll plan for the trips ahead of time.”
“We’ll have fun,” I kissed her forehead.
Laura released a delicate sigh, “I hope it’ll always be this way for us.”
“It will be,” I promised.
Mom came to us. “Laura, come join the fun.”
“I’m not a good dancer,” she explained.
“Oh, nonsense, it’s very natural. We’ll practice.”
Laura was about to say something but groaned, “Oh no. My Dad is here.”
I smiled, “I invited him, remember? Don’t worry. I’ll be on my best behavior.”
Laura sighed, “It’s not you I’m worried about.”
Mom was aware of the situation from the start. She whispered in Laura’s ear. I couldn’t hear what was said, but Laura nodded and picked up a lei. She went to her father and placed it around his neck. She held his hands and talked for a few minutes. I hugged Mom and kissed her forehead, “Thanks for helping out.”
“Laura is stunning. I like her for you.”
“I’m sure you and Grandfather came up with the idea for him to retire. It was a way to get Laura and I back on speaking terms.”
“Son, I have no idea what you’re talking about,” Mom denied it, but there was a playful smile on her face.
We turned our attention back to Laura and her father. Things seemed to be going well because she grabbed his hand to tug him along. Mr. Reynolds laughed and followed her to where we were.
“Dad, I’d like you to meet Miss Emerson,” Laura quickly explain she was my Mom.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” Mr. Reynolds said.
“And you as well, but please call me Kalani,” Mom gave him a kind smile. “I’ll introduce you to everyone.”
“Thank you,” Mr. Reynolds replied. He looked at me. “You’ve done a fine job here. I owe you an apology. I was out of line,” he offered his hand.
I shook it. “All is forgiven. We have a great selection of drinks and food. Please enjoy.”
Mom tucked her arm around his and then motioned for Laura to take his other one. The ladies quickly pulled him away. Mr. Reynolds couldn’t stop laughing.
“That’s a good thing you did for Laura,” Grandfather stood next to me. He released a deep sigh, “It’s hard not to get caught up in the memories. Your Grandmother will always be the love of my life.”
I smiled, “I figured the Luau would bring you back.”
“Kid, I know a trap when I see one,” Grandfather’s gruff response prompted me to tease him more.
“You needed a push in the right direction. I learn that from you,” I told him.
“Yeah, well, enjoy the festivities. I’ll relax in your office with a glass of expensive scotch.”
“Mom won’t let you off the hook.”
“You’ll cover for me,” he replied with ease.
“I can’t because she saw you.”
Mom was motioning for him. Grandfather cursed under his breath but walked across the sand. Mom cuddled against his chest and said something to make him laugh. It was good for Grandfather to spend time here. It had been twenty years too long.
Everyone was enjoying the food, drinks, and live entertainment. Stacie arrived at some point. Mom was thrilled to have the girls around. She moved in rhythm with the music and prompted the girls to do the same. Their dance lessons will be in full swing soon.
Dad was talking to Kristoff. Maybe he liked him well enough. Mr. Reynolds was relaxing near the fire pit with Grandfather and Mr. Giles. I was surprised the VP came. His wife was a regal beauty and seemed to be a good time. She playfully teased her husband. He tried not to smile but failed. Mr. Giles wasn’t as uptight when he wasn’t at work. His wife wandered off to mingle and ended up hanging out with Mom and the girls.
The celebration wasn’t expected to end until dawn. I sent Theo a text. He was somewhere in the background watching everything from a distance. I was about to go inside when Laura hurried across the sand.
“Hey, please don’t work tonight,” she breathlessly pleaded. “I want you to spend time with everyone.”
“Come with me,” I gently took her hand.
We went inside and down the hall.
“Rex, we can’t go to your office,” Laura whispered. “Everyone will know what we were up to.”
“I wasn’t taking you there, but you want to be naughty on my desk. We’ll have to do it again soon.”
Laura blushed. “Stop before someone hears you.”
“They won’t. This is a restricted area,” I went to the private beach entrance and held the door for her.
We walked onto the sand. Moonlight and darkness surrounded the bay. Laura’s brown eyes sparkled like the stars above us. She was damn beautiful. I pulled her into my embrace and captured her mouth in a passionate kiss. It was a silent promise to always protect her heart.
Laura relaxed in my arms, so we could enjoy the view. She peeked up at me. I kissed her forehead. “What do you want to say?”
“Rex, I love you so much.”
I brushed my thumb along her cheekbone, “Please, keep loving me. I’ll make sure you always feel your best, and I’ll show how much I love you later.”
“Oh stop,” she sighed. “No, keep going. I like it.”
I chuckled, “You’re still very naughty.”
“You have no idea. I have a few surprises and can show them to you later if you want,” Laura teased and then took a step back.
I stepped forward, “Don’t tempt me.”
“Why? Don’t you like when I play hard to get?” her sassy reply did it. I went after her.
Laura tried slipping away. I caught her easily and claimed her mouth in a possessive kiss. The lush tropical scent swept over me, but I kept our kiss going until Laura went weak in my arms. I slowly broke our connection. Her eyes sparkled in the moonlight. I couldn’t resist. I kiss my beautiful girlfriend again and enjoyed every second. It was true. There were worse things than falling in love.
