Rowan returned to the dining room to the sound of chatter and laughter. He’d invited his father and Adrian to dinner to meet their new Luna. His father was most excited at the invite this afternoon. Rowan hadn’t mentioned the dinner guests to Ivy because he left her alone, with the book he willed her to read. Especially after the last few days, Rowan didn’t know if she’d feel up to it.

Ivy made a small squeaking sound and nuzzled back into his chest, purring with comfort. In that moment Rowan made a promise to himself that he would let no harm come to his Luna. He gently ran his fingers over her arm and shoulder until they both fell into a deep sleep. Before they drifted off Rowan wondered if she would hate him in the morning, when she found out that he kept her Companion hidden in the house.
