Rex
Laura looked damn cute in loungewear and flip flops. She relaxed on the seat, and her messy bun was wild from the breeze drifting through the car. My house wasn’t far, but I wanted to make sure she was comfortable. “How are you feeling, love?”52Please respect copyright.PENANAyStk7D1zag
She sighed, “Kind of emotional, but it feels good to be with you.”
I kissed her hand and then placed it on my thigh. “Same here. I missed you.”
Laura blushed whenever I talked about my feelings or what was going on in my head. “How are things at work?”
She released a delicate sigh, “Great. I was promoted to General Manager.”
“Congratulations. Do you like it?”
“I love it so far, but it’s been bittersweet because Mr. Emerson retired. I’m sad,” her voice shook with emotion and that touched my heart.
“Why are you sad? Don’t you still see him?”
“Sometimes. He’ll come to the office to say hello, but I still miss him. I’m learning my new role. That keeps me busy, but the Vice President is critical of everyone, so I want to do a good job.”
I coasted to a stop at the light and hit the turn signal. “Did he say you were doing something wrong?”
“No, not really. He’s old school. He wants all luxury rentals to be geared toward families and not young people, single or otherwise, but I don’t want to talk about work. I want to enjoy my night with you.”
She seemed upset about Mr. Giles, so I didn’t push the subject. I’ll talk with Grandfather about him. They were in business a long time, so if he’s changing things without approval then Grandfather should know. It was time to tell Laura about my connection to the company.
I stopped at the wrought iron gates and was about to explain when Laura squealed in delight. “Rex, I can’t believe you live here?” she was excited and damn near bouncing on the seat.
I chuckled but kept my eyes on the road as we drove through the gate. “Are you familiar with the place?”
“I saw a sample home once. It was nice, but I didn’t see the furnished ones. Amcor purchased properties around here for clients to stay at while they’re in town, but I’m excited to see yours. The night is going great so far.”
I smiled, “I want you to feel comfortable, and you’re the first person to visit. Theo has a suite on the first level. He likes quiet, so we haven’t had company over yet.”
“I don’t blame him. I would want the house all to myself too,” Laura’s soft voice hit my ear right.
I listened to her excited chatter until I parked in front of the house minutes later. “I’ll grab your bag, please wait.”
“Okay, thanks,” she relaxed until I held her door.
We went up the stone steps. I unlocked the front door and let her enter first. Laura’s wide-eyed stare was adorable. She glanced around and looked in my direction. “Rex, your home is beautiful.”
“Thanks, feel free to check it out, but skip Theo’s room. He’s temperamental.”
Laura hurried off to explore. She was curious, so it would probably take some time. I took her overnight bag upstairs to my room, threw on comfortable clothes, and headed to the kitchen. 52Please respect copyright.PENANAII35Eulw2V
