Laura was upset, so the plan was to stop by her office, but the day was packed with meetings. Time passed, and it was after six when I went to Laura’s office. She was gone. I left the building and called her from the car. She didn’t answer. I tapped the steering wheel to make another call. Theo answered on the second ring, “What’s up? How was your first day at the office?”

“Not bad, but Laura is pissed at me.”
“Let me guess,” Theo said. “You didn’t tell her you’re in charge at Amcor, well, that’s damn stupid since she was at the house last night.”
“How do you know?”
“Because the place has a woman’s touch. It’s been awhile since I lived with one, but I still remember how they keep things. So, what’s your plan now genius?”
“I’ll order takeout from her favorite place and explain, and if that doesn’t work, I’ll listen to her fuss.”
“Well, it’s about damn time, you’re finally learning,” Theo chuckled. “What time will you be in?”
“Around ten, tell Mish to double check the cash deposits. I’ll head to the bank tomorrow morning.”
“You’ll have to consider an armored truck service at some point,” Theo reminded me.
“Will you be around when they come through?”
“Yeah, I won’t let Mish the risk.”
“Oh, so you do care,” I teased him.
“She’s still a pain in my damn ass,” Theo replied. “Good Luck or whatever with Laura. It’s nothing short of a miracle if she forgives you.”
I chuckled, “Damn, why are you being so harsh?”
“Like I said, she’s good for you, but you keep trying like hell to mess it up. See you when you get here.”
I shook my head at Theo’s words of wisdom. He had a point, so I needed to tell Laura everything.
I called the restaurant. It didn’t take long to place my order, but I had to wait a few minutes, so I went to the flower shop on the corner. The woman behind the counter smiled when I walked in.
“Hi, I’m looking for something that says, I’m sorry for being a jackass. Do you have anything?”
She laughed, “Would you believe you’re not the first guy to come in and ask for it?”
I smiled, “Good to know I’m not the only one messing up.”
“You’re not,” she walked around the counter, and we had a conversation about flowers, well, she talked, and I listened while she put together a custom bouquet.
I thanked her, added a generous tip, picked up the food, and was on the road minutes later.
Laura’s place was nearby. The courtyard’s wrought iron benches and gates were delicate like she was.
I pushed her bell and waited. The door opened.
Laura placed one fist on her hip, “Don’t come over being all charming. You could’ve mentioned you were the CEO of Amcor so many times, but you didn’t.”
“I was wrong for not telling you. I don’t want to upset you more. I came to check on you. I have food from your favorite place,” I offered the flowers.
“I love pink buttercups, you know that.” Laura admired the blossoms. “These are so beautiful,” she smiled and then her eyes narrowed. “You’re not off the hook.”
“I know, but I’m making up with you.” I waited while Laura carefully pulled out the card to read it.
“I’m sorry for being a jackass. I love you. Can we talk?” she sighed, “Aww, this is so cute.”
I smiled, “So, we agree I’m a jackass.”
“Yes,” she answered without hesitating.
I laughed, “Fair enough. Can I come in? Or do you want the food and flowers?”
“Well, I can’t slam the door in your face.”
“Yes you can, grab your stuff and let the door go. I’m fine with it,” I held out the bouquet and food.
“Oh stop it, come in,” Laura stepped aside.
I walked in but kept a respectful distance. “Thanks for hearing me out.”
“I’m not sure if I’ll like what you have to say,” she finished with a sassy shrug and took the flowers. “I’ll put these in water, please make yourself comfortable.”
“Can I go with you?” I said with my best innocent look. “I’ll explain my side of things and leave if that’s what you want.”
“Okay, I’m listening,” Laura smelled her flowers and then marched into the kitchen.
I liked the way she sashayed away from me, and her little temper was a turn on, but it wasn’t the time for it.55Please respect copyright.PENANAaErwyFXq8L
