"Have you ever wondered why we only sing below the water's surface?" Tristan asked Ayriel.
"Not really, I always thought it was because we were never allowed to be up there." She pointed upwards with a shrug.
"Oh, it's so much more than that." The merman chuckled and shook his head. He looked towards the sky and the heavens above it. "Our voices hold a peculiar power and enchant the ears of anyone who hears. While we're underwater of course."
Turning back to Ayriel he continued.
"When we breach the water's surface, that's where the real fun begins. Our voices, still beautiful and alluring, take on a more..." Tristan paused, scratching his chin, pondering the correct word. "Bewitching nature. Humans can't help but follow the call."
She took a few moments to think about what Tristan said. "My voice... something so calming and pleasing used in such a manner, pretty ingenious I must say."
The merman smiled. "Pain is the new pleasure."
Ayriel smirked. "At least, not for them it's not."
Looking toward the sky beyond the waters once more, she focused her attention on the creatures above and made her first move. Still a ways from the island, she slightly breached the surface and began to sing.375Please respect copyright.PENANAkIZ6pafw5F

Come away little lamb
Come away to the water

"Yesss, that's it!" Tristan exclaimed as Ayriel's voice had caught the attention of a young man and woman on a docked boat. Emboldened by Tristan's praise, she continued singing and swam closer.375Please respect copyright.PENANAWiSyguIDo6

Tristan focused his attention on the woman while she sang to the poor man. The nearer he drew to the ledge and Ayriel, the stronger the hold on his soul became.
When he came within arm's reach, he knelt so that they were inches from each other. Taking his face into her hands she continued to sing.
We are coming for you
Bringing him closer as if to bestow upon him a kiss, she pulled him closer still to the water. Once his face was fully submerged, Ayriel's features changed and the man screamed realizing it was too late. Her eyes turned bright red and her teeth elongated into fangs. Her nails grew long and razor-sharp. Nothing would escape her now. She threw him forcefully into the water and dove in after him. She looked for Tristan until she saw him with the woman he held captive a few meters below. Grabbing ahold of the man's leg, she dragged him down into the depths.
We are coming for you
Feeling the rage bubble within her at the thought of humans being responsible for the devastation of her home and the loss of her people, Ayriel whirled on the man she held captive and tore into his neck.
She swallowed the blood that filled her mouth and kept going as if she had never taken a drink before. When her thirst was sated, she tossed the carcass away from her person as it no longer had a purpose.
She turned to find Tristan waiting behind her with a smirk on his lips. "You've taken to becoming a siren very well Ayriel. Even your hair bends to your will."
Touching her hair, she noticed the texture was a little bit different. Running her hands through the strands, she noticed something else as well.
Her hair had turned red.
We are coming for you
