"Pick up," Jayce muttered half to himself as he walked down the corridor, passing the cybernetics lab. "C'mon, c'mon, c-"
"Hello?"
"Kay~!"
"What else could you possibly want from me?" said scientist said with a slight groan as he shifted in his hospital bed. "It's bad enough that you zapped be with the VVX tazer but now you call to hassle me in reco-"
"Aw, Kay," Jay said in a voice that annoyed the brunette greatly, "I just wanted to ask you some things and tell ya' the Dr. Elle Harukana is working with-"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa," Kay interrupted. "Did you say Harukana?"
The greenette nodded before realizing that the other couldn't see him. "Uh, yes…"
"Did we send the PDA to-"
"That's one of the reasons I wanted to call you," Jayce said in a tone that actually made the violet-eyed man on the other end suspect this call to be worthwhile.
"The other reason?" Kay asked, dreading how even though the other sounded serious, the reason may have been a stupid one.
"Class G7-XT4."
The brunette sat up in bed, wincing a bit as he got into a comfortable position; the breeze he felt at the back of the hospital gown he was dressed in was the least of his worries. He waited for the whiny green-haired man to say something else; he was surprised Jay had gone even that long without saying something.
"Jayce…"
"Call me Jay and that was the class type Nanites we used in PDA version one, right?"
Kay ran his hand through his hair before leaning over to grab his holoscreen that had been placed along the stand. Clicking the small silver button along the side, a small three-dimension screen came up to show a smaller version of Zen Tech, a small red dot moving ever so slowly.
"Kay…"
"Yes," the brunette said after sometime.
"And they were placed in PDA version two as well, correct?" Jayce asked knowingly as he heard the other hum in agreement. "And whose idea was that?"
"Well, it was mine b-'
"Class G7-XT4 was classified as volatile hence defective."
With the PDA's excessive glomping, Robert was forced to walk alone with the red-streaked raven who had took a liking to keeping his arms around the pinkette's shoulders. That was if they were not hugging him close by the waist or if he wasn't nuzzling him like he had all through Chemistry. The PDA had almost gotten him detention and Kaito's immediate bail at the end of class was not exactly useful. The pinkette still wished to speak with the distant purplette though he didn't think answering every question that fell from Kai's mouth to be considered a decent conversation.
'Where does he get off asking me so much after everything?' Rob thought as Ace nuzzled him once again. "What are-would you stop that?" he shouted, pushing the other away.
The raven stopped, hunching his shoulders as he watched the flushed pinkette storm off. He waited ever so patiently to see if Robert would see that he was no longer following but the hazel-eyed teen seemed far off in thought to even notice him.
"Robert?" Ace called, hardly able to contain the tremble in his voice.
The pinkette looked over his shoulder, one eyebrow hiked slightly as he held his cell phone up to his ear. Seeing this, the PDA trudged over, taking the phone to see who exactly the teen in glasses was talking to instead of paying attention to him.
Kaito Neroma flashed along the small screen before Ace placed the device to his ear.
"Hey."
"Ace?" Kaito asked incredulously though irritation was evident.
The raven hummed in contentment as he heard the other speak his name with resentment. "That would be me."
"Where's Haruk-"
"His name is Robert," the PDA corrected in a monotonous way. "R-o-b-"
"I know how to spell it!" the purplette seethed. "Put him on."
"Ace, give me back my cell!" the pinkette shouted as the raven turned away, keeping said object out of reach. "Ace, I said to give it b-"
Lidded burgundy eyes had met up with the hazel ones, causing the smaller of the pair to recoil in surprise and fear of what the other may have done. Seeing this, Ace raised his eyelids prior to handing the device over to its owner, smiling kindly to try and ease the terror he had unknowingly gave the teen.
"Hello?" the pinkette asked after he had placed his phone back to his ear. "Kaito?"
Robert pulled the cell away to see the front screen was black; dead in other words. Flipping the cell over, he saw that the back was gone as well as the battery and memory chip. Furrowing his brow, he then narrowed his eyes at the PDA who had been holding the small chip between his thumb and index finger.
"Give that back."
Ace eyed the small chip before looking back at the pink-haired student in front of him.
"This here?" he asked, blinking with each word. "This lil' microchip here?"
"Ace…" Robbie said through clenched teeth.
Said project held up one finger before sliding his hand containing the chip behind his right ear. When he showed the hand again, the small microchip was nowhere to be seen.
"So you're doing magic tricks now?" the pinkette seethed. "Now, give me back m-"
"You wish to speak with the purple-haired one, no?"
"What do you think?"
Poking his bottom lip out for a moment, the PDA stood up straight, his dull red eyes lidded in a way that made him seem distant.
"What are you-"
The sound of ringing made the teen halt mid sentence as he watched the raven part his lips to say, "Well, it's about time you called back."
"A-Ace?" Robbie stammered, wide-eyed as he stared into the glazed over eyes of the PDA. "I-uh-"
Blinking, Ace slid two fingers behind his ear before focusing on the pinkette. A smile worked itself along the PDA's tan face as he leaned forward.
"No, you're suppose to be talking to Neroma," Ace said with a wink before walking ahead, knowing the pinkette would follow, which he did. "Shall I take him off of hold?"
"H-he's on hold?" the pink-haired teen stammered still in obvious shock.
The PDA nodded before tilting his head to the side, his eyes focused elsewhere. "He's an impatient person, isn't he?" he asked. "All that yelling he's doing isn't really necess-"
"Take him off of hold!"
"If I do, I think people will notice you're not talking via cell phone or hands free…"
Something in the way the raven had said that sent a small tremor down the pinkette's back. He stared at the red-streaked raven who was still looking elsewhere before asking something he knew he'd dread.
"Well, how would you suggest I speak to him?"
Ace slid his gaze towards the pinkette who was clutching the backpack strap on his shoulder, his knuckles turning white from the intensity of his hold. The way the PDA was smiling had the other tense though as the raven leaned in, Robert felt his cheeks burn as he took a step back.
"Well," the raven said quietly, "you could start by walking."
Hazel eyes watched the other wearily before beginning down the street. Ace followed along behind him, rolling his eyes as he listened to the teen on hold rant about how he was not liking the PDA; said object could care less. Once sure Robert was comfortable again, the raven wrapped his arms around the pinkette's shoulders, smiling to himself as he felt the other jump and look back at him from the corner of his eye.
"Ace…"
"Hmm?"
"Kaito," Robbie replied, squirming as the PDA nuzzled him.
"Oh, yeah," Ace said, sliding his fingers behind his ear once more.
"What kind of name is Ace anyway?"
The voice of the red-eyed raven matched that of the purplette though the tone was a lot more intense than necessary.
"Hello?"
"H-hello," came the shaky reply from the pinkette.
"What happened to you?" Kaito asked. "You were quiet for nearly five minutes!"
The pink-haired teen looked back to see the glazed over red eyes belonging to the PDA, still lidded in their distant way while his mouth was moving to match each word spoken by the questioning purplette.
"What happened?" Robbie asked thoughtfully as he dwelled on the grey-eyed teen's question. "Um, you wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Ah, Dr. Bertice-"
"Jay," said person corrected.
"Sorry," the redhead replied. "Hopefully your call went well?"
The question hung in the air while the woman returned to the computer screen, viewing a moving red dot.
"Jay?"
"Yes, Elle?" the greenette asked, taking a seat in a swivel chair.
"What's with the red dot on screen?" she asked curiously, twirling a fiery red strand around her finger.
Blue eyes peered up from a slightly pallid face of the greenette before looking down at his holoscreen to see the same dot moving steadily along the screen.
"Jayce?"
"It's Jay," Jay corrected, silently wishing for everyone to just address him by his preferred name, "and the dot on the screen is nothing to worry about." Both peers of science looked at each other, obvious questions not being said vocally. "Nothing to worry about at all."
