Around six in the evening, the young redhead known as Skylar had become bored of the video game. Dropping the controller on the bed, he walked over, whispering something in his older brother's ear before shooting a smile at the purplette.
Kaito just arched a brow as the seven year old ran out the room, but not before telling him goodbye. With a two-finger salute, the owner of smoky grey eyes looked towards the pinkette once the door had closed. Robert hadn't uttered a word after reading his email and whatever his younger brother had told him seemed to have made him a bit uneasy.
"Hey, Rob?" The pink-haired teen turned his head a bit. "What's up?" Kai asked softly as he made his way across the room. "We never did get to play the videogame, ya' know?"
"Oh…yeah, you're right," the other said, turning around in his chair, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
The violet-haired teen scowled as he watched his friend's smile grow faker and faker with each second. When Kai went to open his mouth, he closed it as Robert stood and walked over to the bed to pick up the controller his brother had left on his pillow.
"Harukana." The pinkette went rigid but slowly looked over his shoulder. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing," Rob said, smiling.
"What did your brother say to you?"
"What?" Adjusting his glasses, the teen by the bed sat down and looked over the videogame case. "C'mon and play the game with me. We hadn't had a turn to play together yet, right?"
Kaito folded his arms as he walked over then took a seat at the edge of Rob's bed. He watched as the hazel-eyed teen restarted the game and took a seat, leaning against the dark blue wall. As the main screen to the game appeared, the purplette let out a defeated sigh prior to setting down his own controller.
"Harukana…" The pinkette looked over at him from the corner of his eye before running down the option menu. "Look at me, Haru-"
"Why do you keep calling me by my last name?" Robert asked, sliding his glasses back up the bridge of his nose.
"Because it gets your attention," Kaito said, turning to face his friend. "Now, what did Sky say to you?"
"Nothing, Kai," the pink-haired teen laughed.
"Uh-huh," the other said as he stood up and walked to the door.
"Wait; weren't we supposed to be playing the video game?" The violet-haired boy looked over his shoulder, his face a blank slate. "W-what's wrong with you?" Rob asked nervously.
"Nothing," the grey-eyed teen replied.
"So where are you going?"
The purplette narrowed his eyes before turning away to let out a sigh. Robert eyed him warily before setting his own controller down. When he got up, the pinkette walked over but kept a few paces between the two of them.
"Kai-"
"I'm going ask Sky what he said to you," the purple-haired teenager said, opening the door. "After I find out what it was that had gotten you so upset, we can work it out and play the game afterward. Ok?"
The pinkette took a step forward as his friend walked out the door. "Kaito!"
Said person turned around to see that his best friend was red in the face; his hazel eyes directed the white tiled floor. The pink-haired teen couldn't find the nerve to look up even as he heard the other walk up to him. He didn't even look up as he felt him pat his shoulder.
"Harukana…"
Robert lowered his head, only to raise it as he heard the other let out a disappointed sigh.
"Kai…I…"
"Yes?" the purplette asked earnestly.
"I-I like you…" he said under his breath as he looked in the other direction.
"What?"
The pinkette lowered his head again and repeated what he had just said though it was still hardly over a whisper. He looked up when Kai removed his hand from his shoulder and begun to walk out the room.
'I'll be right back," Kaito said. "Hey, Sky-"
"I like you!"
The departing teen came to a halt and backtracked until he was standing in front of the door frame. An obvious question shining in his smoky eyes while a confused smile crept along his face. His brow soon furrowed as he stood there, too stunned to think of a logical reply.
Robert just stood, red in the face, redder if possible, as his hands covered his mouth. His eyes were shut tight though it did nothing to block out the sound of approaching footsteps. When he finally found some courage to open his eyes, he stared at the snug white top his friend had been wearing. Looking up a bit more, the pinkette took a step back to clearly see a still confused Kaito.
"I-I'm sorry…"
"What did you say?" Kaito asked as his violet eyebrow arched ever so slightly.
"I l-like-"
The purplette lowered his friend's hands and stared at him thoughtfully. "Now, what did you just say?"
"I…l-like you," the pink-haired teen stammered.
"You like me?" Kaito asked, a bit amused as he watched the hazel eyes avert themselves. "I like you too."
"Really?"
The other teen nodded, smiling as he said," But of course, Rob." The pinkette stared up at him dumbfounded as the purplette walked over to the bed and took a seat. "You're my best friend, duh."
"Yeah…" the hazel-eyed teen said, walking over to the door and closing it. "…best friend."
"Harukana." The teen with glasses looked over his shoulder to see his clueless friend holding his game controller. "C'mon and play. I must warn you though." The pinkette arched his own eyebrow as he made his way back over, a slight frown on his pale face. "The game is really tricky and-what's wrong now?"
"Huh?"
"You're frowning," the violet-haired teen said resting his head in his hand that was propped up on his knee. "The game's nothing to frown about. It'll be fun."
'He's so oblivious,' Robert sighed as he sat on the bed. "Yes, I bet the game is really fun…"
"Mhmm," Kaito said with a nod. "Now, let's play the veteran's level and go, go, go!"
The pinkette shook his head, smiling a little as he listened to the one beside him. Clueless Kaito. So very oblivious. He frowned again as they both began to play.
"You're my best friend, duh."
'Friend,' the pink-haired teen sighed again and looked at the other sitting in his peripheral. "Kai."
"Sup?"
"Um…I like you," Rob said quietly, earning him a quick glance from his friend.
"Yeah, I like ya' too," Kaito chuckled.
"I'm not too sure you understand…"
The purplette paused the game and gave his full attention to his bashful friend sitting alongside him.
"Enlighten me then."
The hazel eyes hidden behind the pair of glasses looked down at its owner's lap. Setting his own controller down, the pinkette twiddled his thumbs before looking up at his friend, who in turn, was waiting for an answer.
"Well?" he asked, propping his head up in one hand.
"You see, I…I…"
The purple-haired teen sat back, leaning against the wall as he let out a sigh. "Haru-"
"I don't know how to explain it," the pinkette finally said.
"You never did know how to come out and say it," Kai said, picking up his controller. "Whatever it is, I'm sure it's nothing. Let's just play."
With that, the purplette turned his attention back to the game and began a solo campaign. Robert just sat by, watching as his friend continued to play alone, not even interested in what wasn't spoken. For the pinkette, his stomach knotted with self-loathing for not just telling, Kai, the one he had known since their earlier years.
'Now or never…' he concluded as he tapped his friend on the shoulder. "Um, Kaito?"
"Yes?" the purple-haired teen asked, looking over at his timid friend.
"I-I don't really know how to explain it…"
"Hmm?"
Robert closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Once he opened his eyes, he sat up straight and looked Kai in the eye saying quietly, "Can I try something?"
"Um, sure…?" the purplette replied hesitantly.
"Promise you won't get mad first," the pinkette said. Kai raised a brow. "Promise."
"Ok, I promise," the tallest of the pair said as he watched his friend scoot closer. "What are you about to do?" The one with pink hair stopped for a moment, biting his lower lip as he stared at the other. "Haru-"
The one in glasses had closed the gap between them before pressing his lips ever so softly against the other pair. Dark grey eyes widened while the hazel ones closed ever so slightly. The kiss was a small, yet awkward one but after a few seconds, the pinkette pulled away to see that his friend was still wide-eyed.
The purplette blinked once then twice before backing away. He pressed two fingers to his bottom lip prior to standing and putting his gakuran top back on. During that small period of time, he didn't bother to look at the pink-haired teen that took his first kiss. When he reached down to retrieve his bag, Kai stopped as he heard Rob shift on the bed. As he looked over at him, he saw how his friend's eyes were directed away from him, his cheeks darker than his hair.
"Kai, I-"
"I'm going home," the violet-haired teen said, buttoning up the last two buttons of his top
The pinkette looked over at him quickly but didn't say anything as the dark eyes stared at him. His mouth opened slightly but wound up pressing into a thin line as the other turned away.
"Wait," Rob said, standing up as his friend opened the door. Kaito stopped and looked over his shoulder, several emotions painted along his face before he just turned away again. "I'm sorry. It's just-"
"I'm going home now," Kai said right before he closed the door.
The one with glasses walked over to the door and opened it just in time to hear the front door close with a somewhat loud click. Skylar was standing at the base of the stairs since he had asked Kai to watch a scary movie with him, only to be straight out ignored by the purplette that had collected his things and hurried out. The little redhead was about to walk huffily into the kitchen but stopped as he sensed someone at the top of the stairs. Seeing how it was merely him and his brother only, the seven year old shot his brother a mischievous smile. It lasted just a few seconds, however, due to the fact that the eldest had a forlorn look upon his face as he stared at the door.
"Robbie." The youngest went up the first two steps. "Hey, what's wrong?"
Hazel eyes drifted from the door to stare at the pair belonging to the child ascending the stairs. Robert took a slight step back as he shook his head. As Skylar continued up the steps, the eldest turned around and went back to his room, closing the door behind him. He leaned against said object and let shuddered as he felt the vibrations coming off the wood with each knock his brother gave.
"Go away, Sky."
"Robert, what's-"
"I said go away!" the pinkette shouted, causing the redhead to jump back.
"R-Robbie-"
"Sky, just go away," Robert said quietly, taking a seat on the floor. "I'll come out and cook you something to eat in a little while, ok?"
"O-ok," the little one said, walking away.
Once he was sure his little brother was gone, and possibly off the second floor, the pink-haired teen removed his glasses and closed his eyes to think of what to make his younger brother for dinner…no, on how he going to face his friend, hopefully still his friend, on Monday.
