Sliding on his gakuran top as he walked into the kitchen, the pinkette was surprised to see his younger brother munching quietly on a piece of toast that had been set out for him. His playful hazel eyes then shot up to meet his brother's elder gaze.
"You're up early."
"I could say the same for you," Robbie said, taking a seat across from the child. "Is mom here?" The child pointed up. "Sleeping?"
"Yep," the redhead said, biting into an apple slice.
"So she did come home last night," the pinkette said, looking around the kitchen. "Where's Ace?"
The eyes of the smaller brother lit up as he smiled mischievously. "I don't know."
"Brat, yes you do," Robert hissed, narrowing his own eyes. "Where'd he go?"
"I already told you I don't know," Skylar insisted, still smiling.
"You little-"
"Mom, Robbie's picking on me!"
"Robert!" the woman called.
The teenager drank his juice, slamming the cup on the tabletop before trudging out the side door with his bag over his shoulder. Skylar laughed quietly as he finished up his own breakfast to catch up with his older brother.
"Robbie, wait!" the small child wailed. "C'mon! You gotta' walk with me! Mom says so!"
Rolling his eyes, the teen came to a halt and waited for his younger brother to catch up. The child's grin was still in place and the pinkette was tempted to get rid of it but he only had to suffer another three blocks of the child.
"Bye!" the child shouted as he ran onto his elementary school's campus. "See ya' at home!"
"Yeah, see you later, Skylar," the pinkette said, watching the younger brother run off.
"Hey."
Robert looked over his shoulder to see the purplette standing there.
"Good morning, Kai."
"You hung up yesterday." The grey-eyed teen began to walk down the street and Rob followed since he had no choice; the school was in that direction after all. "Then I called back and you didn't answer."
"I was doing homework," the hazel-eyed teen said jadedly.
"Yeah, Ace told me," Kaito said, looking down at the pink-haired teen. "Who is h-"
"If you're going to question me on Ace," Robert said, looking up at the grey eyes, "save your breath."
"But-"
"Please, Kaito?" The one with hazel eyes sighed quietly as he shifted his bag, walking ahead. "It's really irritating."
"Irritating?" the purplette asked, picking up the pace so he wasn't left behind. "What's so irritating?"
Robert stopped and removed his glasses to clean the lens as he let out an annoyed groan. When he slid the frames back on his face, he turned and looked up at the purplette.
"Your questions," the pinkette replied as he started walking again. "They're really annoying."
"My questions?"
"Especially the ones pertaining to Ace."
"But he-"
"It's always about Ace," Rob said, glancing at his walking companion. "'Who is he?' or 'Why is he here if he's not a student?' Before he came you didn't even want to talk to me!"
"Haru-"
"And stop calling me by my last name!" The pinkette picked up the pace, his head down. "My name is Robert. Ace says it fine."
"Ace…" the purplette mumbled, slipping his hands into his pocket.
"Why are you talking to me now?" Robert asked. "You hadn't paid me any mind after I had k-" His face flushed as he came to a halt. 'After I kissed you.'
"After you kissed me?" Kai asked, watching the other fidget in place.
"Yeah…"
"Well, for starters, you kissed me!"
The pinkette flinched then balled his hands into fist. "Well, you could've pushed me away!" he shouted. "Instead, you decide to be distant as if it never happened. It happened, Kaito! It freaking happened!"
"You don't have to yell at me!"
"And you don't have to interrogate me every time you see me!" Both stared at each other in deadlock until the pinkette turned his attention elsewhere. "If you don't want to be my friend, just say so," Robert said, "but don't keep questioning me like I did something wrong!"
The purplette turned his attention to the road. He noticed several other classmates whispering amongst themselves and he had a feeling on what they were talking about. When he finally looked back at the fuming pinkette, Kai saw that Robbie had already walked away, his head down with his hands in his pockets.
Even when the taller of the two reached the campus, neither said a word nor glanced at each other on their way to the front door. During the silence between them, they managed to pick up on bits of what others were saying.
"Did you see him?"
"Yes, he's new. Think he was transferred or something."
Kaito looked towards the girls talking incessantly.
"Yeah, I've seen him."
"The girls seem to like him a lot."
"Are you jealous?"
"Tch, like hell."
Rob looked towards the guys hanging around the bike racks.
Both looked towards the doors as they opened. Amongst a throng of chatty girls stood a raven. His dull eyes drifted along each of the people around him before his gaze finally settled on the pinkette at the foot of the stairs. A smile crept along his features as he made his way around the female students to get to the one below.
By the time he had reached Rob, the smile had grown into a large grin as he watched the smaller student's face turn bright red.
"Good morning, Robert," Ace said warmly.
"Um, you too," Robbie said, taking a step back.
The red-streaked project allowed his grin to soften as he stared at the hazel eyes studying him. "I don't really like the uniform but it will do," he said. "Well, unless you like it on me."
Despite his attempts at stifling the color flooding to his cheeks, all ended in vain as the pinkette heard a soft chuckle come from the PDA. His eyes closed after he saw the raven lean forward but they cracked open as he felt a cool hand cup his cheek. Burgundy eyes scanned the pinkette's face before Ace leaned to the left.
"You're so cute flushed like that," he whispered in the teen's ear, listening to the hitch in his breath. "I know, you don't like when I say it but I can't help it." Ace flashed another warm smile after he pulled away. "At any rate, can I walk you to class?"
Left out long enough, Kaito cleared his throat to gain both of their attention. Robert stared at the purplette in a mixture of confusion and annoyance before looking back at the PDA dressed sharply in the otherwise boring uniform.
"Sure, you can walk me to class," Robert said.
Ace 's face lit up in excitement before transitioning into a calmer expression. Signaling Robert to hand over his bag, he waited until the teen relinquished it and placed it over his own shoulder before turning back towards the school door. His dull red eyes watched as the hazel-eyed student walked up the steps unsurely. Finding it cute, the PDA hurried to be at his side, keeping his attention focused on Robert while the girls around the door parted.
"Are you going to keep staring at me like that?" Robbie asked, glancing up to see the PDA still looking at him with a smile.
"I can stop if you like," Ace said quietly, turning his attention to the hall before them.
"You're not putting up much of a fight."
The red eyes slid in the teen's direction. "Well, that's simply because I told you that I'd behave while I was here."
