John Marris, a famous writer, is brutally shot after returning home from a bar, leaving his wife and son behind.  Instead of dying, however, he is transported to an seemingly different point in time, full of big band swing, bright lights, and total war.

Thrust headfirst into an alternate reality where the Battle of Midway was lost and the Nazis won the nuclear arms race, John must join the fight to stop the Japanese from occupying the western coast of the United States, and discover who put him there.  But the truth is much darker than he could have imagined.
