Name: Bosatsu
Nationality: REDACTED
Class: Chronomancer
Lookit this fluffy lad. Isn’t he such a good boy? Bosatsu’s one of the main characters in the 5th book, the Project InTone arc, which is also something of a 1st book in part 2 of the series. His name is the Japanese form of the Sanskrit word “bodhisattva”, which in Buddhism describes a person who, despite being able to achieve nirvana and ascend to enlightenment, stays on earth to help the rest of humanity; in Western terms, someone who is able to go to heaven, but chooses to stay on earth to help save others.
This is key to Bosatsu’s character as a whole in ways that I cannot explain without spoilers, but it will suffice for now to understand that Bosatsu is simply the goodest of boys. I hope nothing happens to him.
For his class, Bosatsu is a Chronomancer, which is a healer mage class that uses time manipulation to aid their allies. Because they use time, they don’t heal wounds in the classic sense, restoring set amounts of HP, rather they undo wounds entirely by reverting the player to an earlier state, potentially even changing their location. This means that if you were hit by an instant-KO attack at full HP, they can bring you back immediately by just setting you back in time half a minute. The disadvantage is that their heals cost more TP, so they can’t use them willy-nilly, as healing a scratch or healing a missing arm by sending you back in time both cost the same.
I think Nor’s decision to colour in his eyes on an otherwise black-and-white sketch really adds another layer. It makes it feel like a coloured sketch, even though it’s really not, plus the red-on-white albinism looks even more striking this way. In case you’re wondering, Nor didn’t forget to finish this one, the lad really does move around on a hovering chair of gears. Side note, Tempus Edax Rerum is Latin for “Time devours all things”, which I thought fitting for a Chronomancer.
