Name: Mathis
Nationality: REDACTED
Class: Shadowkin
Another one of those characters I can't say much about, but for a different reason entirely than the ones before him. Part of the Eventyr, a group of characters based on the fairy tales of Hans Christian Anderson, Mathis the Coalescing Vice is based on The Shadow.
Now I have a confession to make.
I L O V E D the story The Shadow as a kid. Granted, I was and am a major Anderson fanboy to begin with, but this one was always my top pick, along with The Snow Queen and The Travelling Companion. I'm not really sure why the Shadow resonated so deeply with young me, since good golly is it dark, but I loved it so much I even dressed up as the titular shadow. That's why Mathis is such an important character, and the leader of his group.
Naturally, in keeping with the fairy tale, Mathis is dark-skinned, dark-haired, dark-eyed (I mean, it's a story about a literal shadow that came to life, so it stands to reason), and dressed to the nines in a black suit. Also keeping with the original character young me (and to be honest, current me too) liked so much, he's both a perfect gentleman and a conniving manipulator, devoid of human pity or morals.
Unfinished as it is (the poor guy's hat!), I think Nor did a good job. He looks both approachable and terrifying at once, which is exactly as he should be. As a Shadowkin, his powers naturally involve manipulating shadows to various effects, and he has the ability to drag people into his own shadow world, contained within himself. All in all, he has that foreboding, congenial personality only someone rightly confident in their own power can have. He is Mathis, the Shadow.
