Name: Walter Hartman & Riley Hartman
Nationality: Canadian
Class: Inertist & Bushi
Two characters at once? What a deal! It's totally not because I mis-counted the days until BRYZ's release and had to cut characters and pack others together...
Totally not.
The Hartman siblings are a young up-and-coming team who, without spoiling anything, wind up well over their heads in very little time flat. Walter is 12 and Riley is 14, with Riley leading the team, and often dragging the reluctant Walter from one mess to another. Although they weren't intended to show up beyond book 1, if people like them enough, maybe I'll have them become reoccurring characters way down the road, like Coby and Helmeppo from One Piece.
Class-wise, Walter's an Inertist, a power-suit class that relies on Newton's first law of motion; the more they move, the harder it is to stop them, the stiller they stand, the harder it is to move them. Opting for the second part of the two, Walter's suit slowly transforms into a bunker around him the longer he stays rooted in place, making him something of a mobile cover for allies, while he picks off foes with his magnum.
On the other hand, Riley's a Bushi, a katana-wielding martial arts class that can swap between the five kendo stances, jōdan, chūdan, gedan, hassō and waki. Depending on the stance she takes, her stats change completely, along with how some abilities work, and which ones she can activate. You can't see it while it's sheathed, but her sword blade is twice as wide as normal, and is actually two blades in one. Her main sword is only composed of the edge of the blade, with the second sword slotting inside the edges, leaving a hole when she removes it. It's ironically hard to explain in writing, I'll need to get Nor to draw it.
Honestly, I really like the design of these two, for bit characters Nor really went all out. I don't really know why, but the less important the character is, the more cool I tend to make them, giving them my favourite classes and coolest weapon and ability ideas :P. I guess it's to balance it out and make them memorable, even if they don't get much face time. Incidentally, Riley's headband says "courage".
