Name: Kim-Mi Na & Kim-Mi Jin
Nationality: Korean
Class: War Magus
The Kim-Mi sisters, Na and Jin (collectively known as Najin) were a fun character to come up with. Essentially, seeing as their mental scans were so close to each other when using the Neuro-Nex headsets, they were able to glitch BRYZ into thinking they were two connections of the same person, thus sharing one body. They split control of their character down the middle, allowing them to pull off a crazy, borderline disturbing fighting style, with their arms, legs, and eyes moving independently of each other.
Their class is War Magus, meaning they dual-wield magic and a sword, and can combo off of the two for added power. Na’s half wields a jagged sword, slotted at multiple intervals to catch and break blades, similar to swordbreaker daggers. Jin wields multiple types of energy-based magic, such as fire and electricity, hitting foes that try to get behind them, or sniping far-off enemies.
If you look carefully (or cover half of the left drawing of Najin), you’ll notice that she actually is trying to make two expressions at once, that’s why her face looks so janky. The fact is, both sisters have very different personalities, with Jin being an extroverted, partygoing “lad-ette”, and Na being a dour, pessimistic introvert, constantly dragged around by her sister. This makes the two often incredibly awkward sharing their body out of combat, with different walking speeds, mannerisms, and reflexes. However, they do both share a strong love of video games and a fierce competitive spirit, which is why in combat, they’re on the exact same wavelength, covering for each other’s weaknesses and matching each other’s pace.
I really like Nor’s design of the two, especially the “two expressions in one body” look. She has a cool, punkish style that somehow fits both sisters perfectly, and her mini-twintails were going to have different coloured tips, red and blue for left/right, north/south, P1/P2, and Na/Jin. All in all, I think Na/Jin’s one of the coolest concepts I’ve come up with for a character.
*Edit*
I forgot to mention, but I specifically chose Na and Jin for their names not just because they go well together as NaJin (which almost sounds Indian), but because of their name meanings, which my lovely Korean co-worker Grace confirmed for me; specifically, Jin means "real, true, genuine", and Na means "elegant, graceful, delicate". I think these meanings really sum up the two sisters' personalities.
