A/N: This is partly inspired by one of my favorite childhood movies Ladyhawke, though I’m taking it in a different direction.
The King’s Procession began its trek east a few days ago. King John, Dean, Sam, the King’s council, the King’s Guard save three, and you all arrived at the Royal Monastery last night. The monastery is home to the Royal Church, which is where every royal for the last three hundred years has been married. After the wedding ceremony, the Procession will continue its tour through the surrounding cities sharing the news of Prince Dean’s new bride.
This morning, the morning of your wedding, you wake in agony, your body twisting in pain. You’re lying in your bed next to Dean, but your body is foreign to you. You speak and a screech breaks the silence, startled you try to move, but instead flap your wings, waking Dean.
“What the hell?” he says.
You try to speak again but only more screeches sound.
“Get out of here bird,” Dean yells.
You fly outside and perch on a nearby tree.
“Y/N? Sweetheart?”
He calls for you and when he doesn’t find you in your shared rooms, he begins roaming the halls. You fly from tree to tree, window to window watching him as he tasks every person he finds with looking for you. You watch him all day unable to tell him you’re right here. The worry and anger and fear in his voice grows with every minute he doesn’t find you. You swoop to the bedroom window hoping for a way to communicate with him.

Dean’s POV
The damn falcon keeps hanging around. And I hate to admit it, but I’m in a panic. Y/N’s missing, it’s the day of our wedding and a small piece of me worries she’s runoff. The idea of being a princess has never appealed to her, she’s a warrior, but she was willing to bear the role for me. Maybe she changed her mind? I rush down the hall to my father’s room. He and Sam are talking in hushed voices, stopping when I enter.
“Still no sign of Y/N?” Sam asks as I sit down in the chair across from him.
“Nothing,” I say dropping my face into my hands.
“We’ll find her, son,” my dad rests his hand on my shoulder.
“What if she changed her mind?” I ask looking up at him.
“Never. Y/N loves you, Dean, she would never. We’ll find her. I’ve got everyone out looking for her. Get some rest.”
I sigh and push off my knees, rising from my seat.
“Let me know if you hear anything.”
I shuffle down to my room. We decided it was best if I stayed here, just in case Y/N came back. But I’m starting to regret not going out to look for her. Sitting here doing nothing is just making me feel worse. When I enter my room the falcon from this morning sits on my window sill. It cries out when I enter. I stop, studying the bird; it’s looking at me, watching me. I walk closer, thinking it will fly away. The sun slips past the horizon as I get closer. Suddenly pain rips through me and I drop to the ground in anguish. My body twists and my bones crack as I watch Y/N appear on the ledge.
“Y/N,” I cry out.
She rushes towards me but stops just before she reaches me.

You watch Dean fall to the floor in pain, you rush towards him, stopping when his skin is replaced with fur and he’s standing on all fours. Knowing what happened to yourself this morning doesn’t make it any easier to believe what you just saw.
“Stay here,” you say to the wolf.
You quickly throw on some clothes and bolt out of the room to find Sam. You find him in his father’s rooms. The two of them stand in surprise when you walk in.
“Y/N,” Sam rushes over to you.
“Sam.”
“Where the hell have you been? Dean’s been worried sick.”
“Something’s happened,” you look between both men.
“What?” John demands.
“Follow me.”
You lead them back to the room where the wolf waits. John and Sam both freeze when they see the massive creature. You sit next to him, stroking his fur.
“This is Dean,” you say looking up at them.
The wolf leans into you as both men drop to the nearest chairs.
“Explain,” John says his face wary.
“I’ve been here all day,” you start, taking a breath before continuing. “I woke this morning in terrible pain and, before I knew what was happening, my body twisted and I became a falcon.”
You stop, your eyes flicking to both men, reading their faces.
“I was a falcon all day. I watched as you and Dean rushed around looking for me. Then just as the sunset I turned back into me and watched Dean become this,” you gestured to the wolf.
John leans back in his chair, wiping his face with his hand.
“We need to gather all of the King’s Guard, the council, and Charlie, now.”
He stands, motioning for Sam to follow.
“You guys stay here. Until we know what’s going on, I don’t want anyone knowing about this.”
“Of course,” you say tightening your grip on the wolf.
A few hours later, the King’s inner circle is packed into a meeting room in the monastery. Sam sits next to his father at the head of the table. A few of the council members are still gaping at you and the wolf. Charlie sits at your side, holding your hand. Gadreel is on your other side, his over-protective brother mode in full effect. Besides Cas, Benny, and Meg the only other person missing is Crowley.
“We need to get a message to the castle. Send a chough to Kevin. Let him know what’s happened and that Rowena needs to come immediately,” John says to Charlie. “Send a message to Castiel. I’ll need him, and either Benny or Meg, to escort her here.”
“Of course, sire,” Charlie bows slightly before rushing out of the room.
“Cain, you and Arthur secure the area,” John barks. “We need to figure out what the hell is going on!”
His anger explodes. Abbadon moves closer to him, resting her hand on his shoulder.
“John, why doesn’t everyone take a break?” she asks gently. “I imagine they could all use some rest.”
“Yes, good. If I’ve given you an order, go do it,” he says looking around the room. “If I haven’t, take this time to rest. We’ll reconvene first thing in the morning. And someone finds Crowley, godammit!”
Everyone stands and leaves the room. You and Sam walk together down the hall towards your rooms. The wolf is at your heel where he’s been all night. You’re silent as you make your way through the monastery, neither one of you sure what to say. When you reach your door Sam hugs you.
“Goodnight, Y/N. Try to get some sleep. We’ll figure this out, I promise.”

Dean’s POV
The next morning I wake to the cry of a falcon. I stretch, rubbing the sleep from my eyes; I start with the realization that I have hands again. I look around wildly for Y/N, my eyes finally resting on the falcon perched on the sill.
My jaw clenches. The falcon swoops to the bedside table.
“Morning, sweetheart,” I say, stroking the falcon’s back.
She cries out then flies out of the window. I dress quickly and go in search of my father. I find him in his room. He rushes over to me, pulling me into a hug.
“Y/N?”
“Flying around,” I choke out.
“I’m sorry, son.”
“What the fuck is going on? Still no word from the castle?”
“Nothing, and we can’t find Crowley either.”
“I need to find Charlie. Will you let me know when you hear something?”
“Of course.”
I make my way to the monastery aviary. I find Charlie at a little desk, fervently writing. She looks up when I enter.
“Y/N?” she looks hopeful.
I shake my head. Just then the falcon swoops in, landing on Charlie’s desk.
“Do you have an extra falconry cuff?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Charlie pushes off from her desk and rummages through her bag.
“Here,” she hands it to me.
I pull it on, testing the feel of it on my arm.
“C’mere, sweetheart.”
The falcon flies over to me, landing lightly on my arm.
I stroke her back and she leans into my hand. I choke back the tears. I need to be strong for Y/N.
“Thanks, Charlie,” I peck her cheek. “Any news?”
“As a matter of fact, yes. I was just going to take it to your father.”
“Give it to me, I’ll take it to him.”
“Dean, it’s not good.”
“What?”
“Best to tell you all at once, I’ll come with you.”
Charlie and I walk back to my father’s rooms. Luckily Sam is there, so we all sit down as my father reads the message. His face grows darker and darker the further his eyes move down the page.
“What is it?”
“There’s been a coo. Metatron somehow forced Rowena to spell my entire army. They’ve locked down the city, no one in or out. Kevin says Rowena was able to protect him, which is why he was able to send us this message. Benny and Meg fought them off as best they could, but…”
“No,” I growl, jumping out of my seat and pacing the floor.
“Do you think,” Sam starts gesturing to me and the falcon, “this is connected?”
“It has to be. Distract us with this while we’re away…”
“And if Rowena’s the one being forced to do this, she won’t be able to help us,” Sam points out.
“Son of a bitch,” I mutter.
“We need to find a place to settle while we gather forces. Charlie, get everyone back to the meeting room immediately.”
“Right away,” Charlie bows slightly and rushes out of the room.
“What about Cas?” I ask.
“The message doesn’t mention him. Maybe he got out in time.”
A few hours later Castiel shows up journey worn. He practically stumbles into my father’s room and we all jump up from our seats.
“Dean, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry,” he rushes over to me.
“What happened, Cas?”
“Metatron, he’d been asking questions. About spells and Rowena and why she was working with us after everything. I didn’t think, I thought he was just curious.”
“What happened?” I growl.
“He stole into the vault and took the chains. The ones we forced her to create. The ones that can bind her.”
“No,” my father looms over Cas. “What happened?”
“He has full control of Rowena, the army. Benny and Meg, we fought them off, we tried to get Rowena and Kevin out of there…”
“The council’s waiting let’s go.”
My father brushes past Cas, leading us out of the room.
