The restaurant was a pleasant place to have family dinner. It was exquisite, elegant, and expensive. It is a first-class restaurant around the city, very modern though a bit intimidating. It was not like she never goes to this kind of place, she just doesn't enjoy going to this kind of restaurant. With its elegance, it was rather cold and distant. And all she hoped for tonight was to dine in a warm and welcoming place where she can have an easy chat with her family. However, this was not that bad since the place was not that crowded, though the people were too cold to her liking. She wonders why people eat in that kind of manner, some people want to be seen as elegant and capable by others.
While waiting for their food to come her dad strikes up a conversation asking about her first day at school if she had made a friend and what she thinks of her new school so far.
"It was rather nice, I made some friends. I met a very nice one today. Her name is Raeven Amano. Do you know her family dad?
Her dad was surprised he looked at her and he thought for a second then his eyes lit up. "If we are talking about the same family then, she might be Sander's daughter..." Her dad said and continued talking. "Did you know that she is of Japanese descent? That explains her last name. Her great-grandfather came here and started his restaurant now, the successful high-class restaurant we are dining at." Her dad said.
"I'm glad you made friends..." Her mother said to her in a soft voice only the two of them can hear. She does not understand what her mother means by that.
"Raeven doesn't seem like a typical rich girl if you know what I mean..." She said to her mother.
Her mother was not surprised and gave her a more dazzling smile. "Why don't you invite her over for dinner one of these days?"
She thinks for a bit it was a good idea. "Well, if it won't be a bother to her. Sure, I will ask her to come. I need to check if she's free any day tomorrow."
During dinner, the Samonte family was having a nice chat, compared to the other diners they were engaged in a pleasant chat; warm and loving. If the painter would make this a painting, they would be in vibrant colors while the people were all in a black and white blur.
They were about to go home and on their way down to the parking lot they unexpectedly encountered a family who is about to go inside the restaurant. They were one of the new neighbors in their subdivision. Both parents started a conversation. The parents were talking animatedly with the other while the children just stepped aside and quietly waited for their respective parents.
Angel was quietly looking at a guy, about her age or so, tall, tanned skin, with a handsome face, and a laid-back aura around him. There were a lot of things running inside her head when she was caught unawares; the guy was looking at her too! And he suddenly smiled at her. She doesn't know what to do. She was taken aback. She just looked at him and for the first time in her life she didn't smile, instead, she turned her head away feeling awkward. She knows it was rude. But what to do? It was unsettling and uncomfortable. After a while, she sneakily glances in his direction. He was quiet and looking at the elders talking. She can be sure he was a nice guy. But she was not sure why she needed to assure herself of that aspect like it was needed for her to know that kind of thing.
She was absorbed with her inner thoughts that she didn't notice that the nice-looking guy was now looking at her intently. It looked like a staring contest between the two. It was taking all her self-restraint not to blush and embarrass herself. Now, she knew how guys could look intimidated yet look good at the same time.
Her thoughts bothered her until morning. And Angel cannot still take it going out of her bed. She just lay down and looked dazed. It seemed like this morning was different from the previous one; the sky looked gloomy, and she feels lazy going to school.
Wait... when was the last time she felt lazy going to school?
Never.
So, what is she still doing in the bed lying like she was some kind of depressed brokenhearted girl? The thought was sobering enough, and she got normal again. She looked at the clock on her bedside table: 7:30 A.M.
Good, she can still get to school and not be late. She goes to her closet and picks a fresh set of school uniforms, lays the uniform down on her bed, and goes inside the bathroom to take a quick shower. Fortunately, her parents are not home to question her odd behavior. When she got down, she saw her brother. He was having his breakfast. She looked at him and he stopped his spoon midway to his mouth.
"What?"
"Nothing." She just said.
"Oh, did mom tell you about something?"
"What? No. Should you tell me something?"
"Oh, no, I'm still not sure if she will agree. Forget it." She said, dismissing her thoughts.
Her brother was annoyed. "You already piqued my attention but then you won't say it, what gives?"
Angel just sighed. "My new friend may or may not come here this Sunday but I'm not sure yet. So, just forget about it." Then she ate her omelet.
Her brother got a bit interested. "Oh? Who, I want to know."
Angel was taken aback by his elder brother's absent-mindedness. They were at the same table last night but turned out he was not even listening? "Raeven Amano, do you know her?"
And just that, her brother was choked.
Angel was alarmed her brother choked. "Hey, big brother, are you okay?" She stands up from her seat and quickly pats his back, then gives him a glass of water.
"Hey, stop. I'm okay. You said Raeven A-Amano?" Angel stopped patting her brother's back.
"Yeah. Well, she was the first girl who was so nice to me. And mom said I should invite her over." She said, "Though I'm not sure if she will accept-" She mumbled uncertainty.
Her brother cuts in. "Oh, cool."
Angel was stunned for a second then she started blinking then recovered her senses. She was still trying to process what was happening but before she could form a conclusion her brother was already gone.
Her day went smoothly, she kept on looking at Hayley, there was something wrong with Hayley. She was with the three girls yesterday, now she was alone and everyone was keeping their distance from her. Then she looked at Raeven. She was focused on the lesson. Angel witnessed that Raeven can be this focused. Maybe she liked literature. She looked at the professor. The professor was young, he may be fresh out of college. That's great. So most of the girls have a secret crush on him. Oh, wait, could Raeven be...
She stopped herself from reading too much about her friend's focused behavior.
But she can't stop but notice this other girl, the one who she bumped into yesterday. She's all starry-eyed and mooning over the young and handsome professor! Angel can't help but be embarrassed on her behalf.
Girl, that is not the proper way to admire someone. At least don't stare like that!
