It took the four girls almost 5 hours when they made it to the rest house; it was already dark. It was nice to have a breath of fresh air and be away from the city. During the long hours of driving, Hayley got bored and thus made fun of her newfound friends.
"You know what, if I'm a writer I could get a lot of interesting story plots based on true stories."
Angel looked at Hayley. This girl, she's bored and wants to cause trouble. however, she found it not annoying at all. "Really? Can you tell us what kind of story are you going to write?" She's smiling while asking.
Hayley sat bored in her seat. "Well, first, your love life, of course."
Raeven just rolled her eyes. Here we go again…
"Most of the girls in school looked at Angel like she was plain and boring. Who would have thought she's just like us girls? She also has a crush!" Hayley said, a little smile playing on her lips, teasing Angel.
Yuri looked at Angel, wanting to know if what Hayley said was true. She couldn't believe what she heard.
"Also, this ice beauty we have here-"
"Shut up!" Raeven glared icily at Hayley.
"What? Don't be so grumpy. You were the one who is ruining our trip. You were so scary right now, don't you know?" Hayley said while chuckling.
Raeven frowned and looked at Angel. This kind and gentle friend of hers does not tell lies. However, her silence didn't even give her hints at all. Is she really ruining their trip?
Angel lowered her head, feeling embarrassed. Not that Raeven was ruining the trip. She just can't make herself ask what is bothering her at that moment. "Well..."
"Oh please, everyone has their problem to worry about. It's not like your boyfriend left you..."
"What do you know?" Raeven whipped her head in a flash and glared at Hayley intensely. She looked like she was about to pounce on her at any moment.
"Hey. Relax. Geez, two queens can't coexist together..." Yuri exclaimed.
Angel was beginning to worry, however, was taken aback by what this cute girl said, making the atmosphere better. They looked at each other and Yuri giggled. "So, this is how it feels like to be friends with the popular girls."
The long way trip to Batangas didn't take long, thanks to the bubbly girl who is so innocent and cute as always.
After long hours...
Yuri led them to a two-story old-style house. It was all made of wood and it looked perfect for vacationing indeed. That is what they all think, looking from the outside; greens and full of flowers everywhere. However, the inside of the rest house was the complete opposite. The rest house looks creepy on a cloudy afternoon. The living room and kitchen were divided by a French door, on the living room, there were a sofa and table with a bronze undertone, there was a gramophone on top of the antic-looking long wooden table, there was a wide Victorian carved mirror and there was a big glass chandelier hanging in the nicely carved ceiling. The atmosphere inside screams old-fashioned yet elegant interiors. There were heavy-looking curtains that made it look gloomy inside. Though the living room was old-fashioned, there was a modern kitchen that was fully equipped with appliances that were all modern and the latest model of a popular brand.
They discussed what will be for dinner. Angel volunteered to cook for them, but the remaining just nodded their heads since they don't even know how to. The second discussion came to the bedroom. There were six rooms; not including the maid's bedroom which was typically on the first floor.
When they get to the second floor, Yuri has faced a dilemma…
She hated the dark corridor…. And even with the lights on, it never stops her imagination from scaring her…. She cleared her throat first. "There are six rooms here, two bigger than the rest. You can pick now…."
"I'll have a big room."
There was a long silence. Angel and Yuri looked at the two ladies who said the same thing at once.
Hayley just laughed. "Sure, beautiful. You can have the other big room." She said with an emphasis on the word 'other'.
Raeven just pursed her lips.
"I guess we'll have to do with the other rooms, gel," Yuri said, though she's been a scaredy-cat, she is still a princess and wanted to have the big room to herself. "Angel, you don't mind sharing the room with me, right?"
Angel looked at Yuri, a little confused. "You want to share a room with me? Why what's wrong?"
Yuri looked sideways, a little embarrassed that she’s fearing the dark.
"Hey, little cutie, are you afraid of the dark?" Hayley started teasing Yuri.
"Well..."
"Really? How could you be afraid, let me guess, you're still sleeping with your parents? Goodness, you're like a baby." Hayley loves teasing her friends so much that she can do it for eternity without getting bored.
Yuri seemed to feel that her confidence has dropped, and she needs to pick it up from the floor. "You're speaking nonsense! Of course, I sleep in my room. It's just that, I don't like how this house looks at night. It's creepy!"
Angel looked at the two arguing with each other, while Raeven just shrugged and looked at Angel, waiting for her to decide what to do next. She sighed and looked at the three of them, then clapped her hands softly to get their attention. The two girls stopped arguing and looked at her attentively. "Okay, we only have ourselves to look after, and what's the best way to stay safe? It's sharing beds."
Raeven looked at her. Uncertainty is written on her face. Hayley smirked, and Yuri had her two big eyes sparkle with joy.
"Wow. It's like a slumber party! I like it!" Yuri said excitedly. She looked at the three of them. "It will be our first slumber party. How nice, all our firsts happening here during our vacation!"
Hayley looked at Yuri. "Are you sure? You want all your firsts to happen here?"
Yuri looked at her, confused.
Raeven dodged Hayley at the side. "Stop your nonsense. Don't pollute her ears with your dirty words."
By then Yuri gets what Hayley meant by what she said. She blushed and angrily said. "It's not what I meant!"
Angel can't help but giggle at the cute pouting girl. She knew that being together with those girls will be a battle. But she can't help but feel different from them, a good difference. All her life, she felt unfamiliar, not belong, but these girls make her want to step out of her comfort zone, and for the first time in her life, she wants to act boldly. Angel said while pointing at the two big rooms Yuri said earlier. "Since the big rooms were beside each other, it'll be great. Now we need to choose who will be roommates with whom."
"I want to be with you, gel, can I?" Yuri said with the speed of light.
Raeven already preferred to be with Angel, but she was defeated. She sighed, then accepted her fate.
"I guess you're stuck with me now, ice beauty. Don't worry, I won't take a picture of your sleeping face." Hayley started teasing again.
"Whatever," Raeven said with an eye roll.
When they go inside, they saw the inside was not that different from the theme of the first floor. There was a big four-poster bed with a lace curtain hanging around it. A big furry rug under it. A big wardrobe on the left side. A door, they guess it was the bathroom. On the far left side corner of the door, at last, a sliding door leading to a balcony. The bed is a queen-size bed, so it will not be a problem to share a bed with two-person.
"I want the left side of the bed," Raeven said. Pointing to the left side of the bed facing the balcony.
"Sure, you can have whatever you want, princess." Hayley started teasing Raeven again.
"You don't snore, do you?" Raeven retaliates.
"How will I know? It's not like I'm awake when I snore, right?"
Raeven was about to continue on their petty banter when they heard loud music from the bedroom next door. Hayley headed to the balcony first, followed by Raeven.
The two rooms are connected balcony. They walked to the other side and peeked inside the other room. They saw Yuri dancing and singing to the song currently playing.
Ha ha ha ha ha
Yo, I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want
So tell me what you want, what you really, really want
I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want
So tell me what you want, what you really, really want
I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha) I wanna, (ha)
I wanna really, really, really wanna zigazig ah
"Yuri, turn down the volume. The girls in the other room might get annoyed by the noise," Angel said.
Yuri giggled first, then bounced on the top of the bed. "No, they don’t I bet they’re arguing again."
Angel laughed at her answer.
"We can hear you. We are about to sleep, but then we heard this girl-wannabe singing out of tune to the music." Hayley teased Yuri and opened the sliding door to enter the bedroom, followed by Raeven.
"Excuse me, I sing well! Angel, I sing well, right?"
Angel laughed at the two banter. Raeven looked around the bedroom. This is almost identical to the room they were in with Hayley, except for the king-sized bed without the four posts and curtain hanging around it. She made her way to the bed and sat at the edge. Hayley then sat on the other end.
"Is there no other music? I thought you were a Gen Z, you don't listen to Ariana Grande, Blackpink, Ed Sheeran, or other popular singers..." Hayley said.
"Of course, I like Black Pink and Ariana Grande, but Spice Girls is my first love. My mom loved them so much, she even goes to their concert in England when she was still young. Did you know, I influenced her the way she influences me in my music choices? Since I like the Spice Girls, I made her like the Little Mix back. Hahaha."
"Oh, I heard that Little Mix. They have pretty good music." Raeven joined the conversation.
"Well, except for the all-time bitter song, Shout out to my Ex," Hayley said.
"What's wrong with that song, as long as it's catchy?" Yuri interjected.
"Oh, girls..." Hayley helplessly sighed. Then she looked at Angel. "How about you?" She asked.
Angel was taken aback. "Well…. My mom likes the 80s boy band, Beatles, the rolling stone…."
Hayley laughed. "Let me guess, you also like boy bands?"
"What's wrong with their songs? I love boy bands as well." Yuri said, a little indignant.
"And you, ice beauty, how about you? What is your music preference?" She turned the question to Raeven, but then hold up her hand suddenly. "Wait, let me guess, Billie Eilish!"
Angel knows about this singer from her church friends. Yuri looked at Raeven with her eyes wide open. "Oh my gosh, you like that type of music, but it sounds so creepy!"
Raeven looked at Hayley with her signature stare: you're-an-idiot-look. "She's your kind of music right, you looked like the emo-type, with the gloomy aura around you."
"Calm down," Hayley said while chuckling. "Oh, my bad… Well, on second thought, Billie Eilish has some good songs too." Hayley said. The girls just looked at her. "I will let you hear what we should listen to right now…." She said, then goes to the player and selected a song. Then they heard electric guitars, it is electric music.
I Don't Wanna go to school, I just Wanna break the rules…..
There was a little mischievous smile on Hayley's pretty face. Raeven looked at her like she was a lunatic while the two girls looked innocently at her. "Why? Sounds good, right? Perfect for a slumber party. Don't you know this is a popular song among girls?" Hayley explained.
"Yeah right, for a mischievous-fun-loving girl like you," Yuri said while laughing.
Hayley shrugged. The four girls sat on the big bed and talked for a while before Hayley said something. "What is our plan for tomorrow?"
"Yuri tapped her cheeks with her long slender finger. "Well, since we will be here for three days, we can go to an amusement park nearby. My cousin told me there were good rides to choose from as well. Or we can try some night markets here or..."
"No one's going to discuss the fact that tomorrow's a Halloween?" Hayley said with her signature raising an eyebrow.
"Oh. Now that you said it, I almost forgot about that. Well, are we going trick or treating?" Yuri said, a little excited.
"What are you, still a child? You didn't outgrow it? Don't tell me you still went on last year?" Hayley found another chance to tease Yuri.
"So what? I get to play dress-up every time. Last year I was Elsa." Yuri said indignantly.
Hayley almost choked on her saliva. Raeven looked at Yuri wide-eyed, can't believe what she heard. While Angel thought Yuri is a cute little girl and a funny one too.
"Okay, it's about to get dark, since you don't want to take a rest. Why not help me in the kitchen while I cook our dinner?"
The girls bounced up and made their way down to the first floor. Angel is not your average teenager. She knows how to cook, and her dishes not only smell good but taste incredibly delicious too. Raeven even hints that she might ask her in the future for a lesson. While they were eating, Hayley's phone rang. She pulled it out of her pocket and then answered it in front of the girls.
"Yo, wassup?" She casually greeted the other line.
The three girls looked at her, surprised. Who's this girl, talking like a gangster and… uncultured? The three bewildered girls were dumbstruck looking at Hayley and forgot about their food for a moment. While Hayley looked unfazed by the call and still ate her food without worry. Yuri thought Hayley would let the person on the other line talk, then she'll hang up eventually when she felt bored. Well, at least that's what she saw Hayley be as a person…
But then…
"Hahahaha…. That sound so dumb coming from you. You never learn, but then if you must, be my guest. Wish you the best of luck, uncle.."
Angel heard Hayley's tone talking to someone much older than her.
Hayley was about to keep eating when she noticed how quiet the dining place became suddenly. "Hey, are you done eating? There's still a lot more. Remember, we don't have anyone to take care of the leftovers. It'll be a waste of good food."
"You're talking to your uncle just now..." Yuri said, breaking the silence.
"Yeah, and is there a problem with that?" Hayley asked.
"Do you always talk to him like that? Your elders don't reprimand you?" Raeven asked.
"Haha. What do my elders have to do with how I talk to my uncle?" Hayley said with a smirk, then suddenly realized something. "Oh, are you worried I'm being disrespectful of him?"
"He's your uncle, after all. I can't talk like that to my uncle." Yuri said.
Hayley looked at the girls. Even Angel was looking at her. Hayley laughed. "Relax girls, that guy doesn't mind at all. In fact, he's not that old, he's only a couple of years older than me."
"So, your uncle is still young? What's he like? Is he handsome? Oh, wait, because you're pretty, I bet he's handsome." Yuri said, sounding excited again.
Raeven rolled her eyes. She can't help but think that this girl gets excited about almost anything and too often.
Hayley clapped her hands to get their attention. "Angel cooked for us, and this dish won't wash on its own, so let's have a little contest. The last one left still eating will be the one to take care of the dishes."
Yuri shouted out of horror. "No way, I still have a lot on my plate, unfair!"
"Stop, just eat fast, you will be the last one for sure if you keep whining," Raeven said while eating, too. She doesn't want to wash the dishes.
That night, the girls were playing cards on the dining table while waiting for Yuri to finish washing the dishes.
