Angel was not surprised at how she will be accepted into this kind of school. She knew that this thing would happen eventually. But she could think of a worst-case scenario even.
She knew that this is the real world outside the Catholic school. Before, she could talk about God any time and with the people like her, but it was not all sunshine and there should be rain sometimes. If there will be a day to conquer the world, then this must be that day. It was time to let herself be here in front of everyone. Not that she was not true to herself, rather she can't fathom why some people don't get it. Why do they mock people who dedicate their whole life to serving God? Like it was a funny thing or a club of freaks. She knew that some of them don't believe in something that they haven't seen before. How come she expects others to follow them and believe in some unseemly mighty power who doesn't show Himself. But Angel knew better. This miracle and all things happen for a reason and that is what she's meaning to prove to those who don't believe in Inevitable.
This Hayley-girl in her class was a dark girl, darker than anyone she has ever met before. There's something that tells her this girl was done in all kinds of goodness that were sugar-coated all along. Raeven has a dark side as well, but without the same darkness that dominates Hayley's aura. Or maybe she even misread Raeven's friendliness towards her. Maybe this covert attitude both fall under the category of misjudgment. If she doesn't know herself, she will gladly let those girls live in their misery. But she's herself and that to help others fight their own demons must be her mission in this world. And she already set her heart on it. God knows how lonely it can be to be spiteful of others.
"Ouch! Watch where you're going!"
Angel jumped and almost got a heart attack. The impact of colliding with someone on the way to the school entrance was painful. Her mind was still loading from the collision, maybe it was because she was in deep thought before she bumped into the girl. She rubbed her shoulder unconsciously. The girl she bumped into noticed her action. "Did I hurt you?" The girl asked, a bit concerned.
"No, I'm fine. You, how about you?" She asked. The girl just smiled at her. A sincere one.
"Hey, Miss Yuri. Going home now?"
The girl was taken aback by the way Angel addressed her. "Please, stop being so polite. We're the same age, for Christ's sake." She said, a bit annoyed.
"I'm sorry I'm a bit spacing out while walking."
"I'm fine already. It was okay. And you're... Uhm..." The girl was struggling to remember her name. Angel knew that the girl wanted to acknowledge her, though she cannot remember her name.
"I'm Angel. We're in the same class, " Angel tells her name to put the girl out of her misery.
The girl just smiled shyly. "Yeah...hehe."
Angel saw how the girl giggled. She cannot stop thinking it was oh so cute. How did she do that?! "So, are you going home right away? Are you interested in hanging out with me? I'm with a few of our classmates..."
Angel was ready to reject her offer. But then Yuri could read her next move. "It was strange for those girls who don't have time to spare today, what gives? We should enjoy our time while we're single. I mean, I'm right, am I?" Yuri continued to say.
Angel just stared at her. "It felt kind of weird, I mean, is this my bump-other-girls day today? I just bumped into one of our classmates. The one with the beauty queen aura. I seriously can't take it anymore if I bump into someone else again." She said Angel was just quiet and letting the cute girl rant all she wanted. Angel doesn't know what to say. "Oh yeah I'm riding a car so I won't be bumping into others anymore."
Angel was on her wit's end by now. This girl knows how to talk. "W-well I'll see you tomorrow, then? You take care." Angel said and wanted to end the talk. Yuri just looked at her intently, "Why do I feel that you are trying to shoo me away. Are you in a hurry? What do you have got to do after school? The god-thing, right?"
And Angel knew that her name is associated with god-things from now on. She was really at her wit's end. This girl has a lot of free time in her hands, surely...
"W-well, you know, some don't have time to spare, probably they're busy helping their parents." She said matter-of-factly.
Yuri looked at her suspiciously, trying to see through her. Yuri can't make any other meaning out of her words. She only sees a girl who casually talks about being the good girl that she was.
Angel blushed with embarrassment, she hoped she was not that obvious. "W-well, you see we all want to be helpful to our parents, don't we?" She reasoned out.
"Aha, so you're an angel, God-girl." Yuri kept on teasing her.
Angel just let out an exasperated sigh. " Why do most of you girls keep on calling me that? It's not like I'm the only one who serves God's purpose, you know..."
Yuri just let out a happy giggle. " You sure don't accept teasing, do you?"
Angel doesn't get why they like teasing her.
"You're very different from us, you're you and it's not like every day you make your way and bump into a weird girl looking so plain. And the fact that you're rich." Yuri said with the last word in high pitch.
Angel felt like the last word was a scandalized truth that was revealed and it sounded like not a good thing.
Yuri continued her tirade. "You are supposed to be a spoiled rich girl, a teenager that is carefree and cute and has a crush now and then. I bet you don't even have a crush."
Angel widened her eyes at the last remark. "Oh, there you go again, teasing me. "
"I'm sorry..." Then she laughed again, "Okay, I won't keep you for long. Go home and stay as good as a good girl could ever be. See ya tomorrow, my nice and pretty classmate."
Just like that, Yuri ran away from her. Looking like all the carefree and worry-free girl she just described a while ago; a teenager who just enjoys her youth and having fun just like a random rich girl. She envies this kind of carefree nature that her own mother used to make her be. How her mother told her it freaks her out because she doesn't think like the other girls, act like the other girls, and stuff like shopping and going to a salon every weekend.
But sometimes she was alone and reflecting inside her room, the things that should have been: what if she was one of those girls? What could she have felt about that? But she was more than fine, she was what she was all along. There's no room for overthinking. This is the way she chose her life to be, and she was more than happy to believe and hold on to her faith. She is dedicated to her religion, and there's nothing wrong with it.
She arrived home safely and was about to go to her room and change when her mother appeared out of nowhere. She almost jumped out; surprised. "M-mom?!"
Her mother even widens her eyes, "Hey, you're a jumpy little thing. Why what's wrong?" Her mother said and held her forehead while hers: was a bit wrinkled out of worry.
She just holds her mother's hand, "I'm fine. I'm just overwhelmed by my first day in my new school."
"Oh," her mother mumbled and caressed her long hair lovingly. and kissed her cheeks. "So, how's your first day?" The woman made her voice as cheery as she could.
She smiled and sighed softly, "it was fine."
Her mother looked at her closely, trying to decipher her answer. " You met new friends?"
"Yes, I met some nice girls today and chatted with them and also all the professors are very accommodating and kind..." She narrates her adventure today to her overly eager mom who was enjoying her chatter. "... they already discuss rules and what our subjects are all about, though there are no assignments yet."
"Good, no assignments yet. That's better. So perhaps we can eat out? You know, to celebrate your first day of school?" Her mother suggested.
She was surprised. She doesn't think they needed it. She much preferred to eat her mother's cooking or their head chef's cooking. " I don't think that's needed." She mumbled out, but her mother would not back off. "Mom, big brother didn't have one." She even tried to reason out.
She was rewarded by her mother's stern look. "Well, your brother was out with his friends and didn't bother to attend supper, remember, he got punished for that behavior? It didn't count as appropriate for a celebration."
Angel just looked at her mother, she was hesitant she didn't want to go out. Not today. "How about the store? You don't have any urgent matters to settle?" She wants to take whatever reason is available to avoid this dinner.
"The staff can take care of all that. That's what they were paid for." Her mother said and kissed her forehead. "Get change." Then her mother walks off.
She doesn't have a say in this one. So, she dragged her sorry ass upstairs and entered her room. After getting out of her uniform, she stands in front of her closet and tries to decide what to wear for their family dinner. though she was not sure what to wear. Her mind was still on the girl named Hayley. Angel was curious why some people think like that girl.
After a while, she wore a yellow sundress that set off her fair complexion. It was almost like she was blooming and in love. Love. She almost laughs at the mere thought of being in love. When she had not fallen in love for all fifteen years she's alive. Then, she tried to think about what it feels like to be in love.
With a simple touch of face powder and lip gloss, she was convinced she looked nice and well-groomed. She just let her hair down. Then, out of the silence reigning inside her room, she heard a soft knock from outside. Then she heard her mother's voice shortly after.
"My angel, this is mom. Can I enter your room?" Her mother asked permission.
"Sure mom." She said while smiling. Then continue brushing her black shoulder-length hair. Her mother walked in front of her while she was still busy brushing her hair standing in front of her full-length mirror. "Yes, mom?"
Her mother first looked at her then smiled and revealed a jewelry box she was holding. " I wore this the first time I met your father." Her mother said out of the blue.
Angel doesn't know what to say. What to say?
Her mother takes pity on her. She let out a soft laugh. "I know it's weird. I just want to give this to you."
Angel almost blush to complete her no-makeup look. She knows where the conversation will go from here. She knows it will be awkward, but she tried to look composed. Somehow she felt curious about her parents' love story.
"So, I was saying, I was about your age then and I was in the middle of my self-study in the library when your dad sat beside me and the fact that I already had a crush on him. Then he tried to start a conversation with me. And since I was thrilled finally, my crush talked to me and I started chatting with him too. We were like long-lost friends trying to catch up with our lives. Then after a week, we started dating each other."
Angel was sure her mother was reminiscing about her romantic dates with her dad. It was clear in her distant eyes. It was like she was not here but at the time she felt happy the most when she was young and in love. Who knows, fairy tales happen in real life. Her parents had their own happily ever after.
She wanted to know what it's like to be in love.
Her mother opened the medium-sized black velvet box in her palm. And inside sits a very dainty looking but sparkly little pendant: a multi-colored winged butterfly. Made of colorful semi-precious stones. The butterfly was about a two-inch size big and it was perfectly matched with her yellow dress.
"I hope that the same fate will happen to you. And I know you will have your own story to make. This is my lucky charm and now I'm giving this to you."
"Mom, this thing could be our family heirloom." She said jokingly.
Her mother smiled at her. And the only thing that her mother wishes for is for her only daughter to find someone that could stand by her side for a very long time. Like the way, Angel's dad has done for the last 30 years of their marriage.
Angel can't help but cry for what a beautiful love story her parents had. She thought, could it be possible for her to have a love story as good as her parents had? Let alone find a guy like her dad? She shakes her head to dispel the negative thoughts. Anyway, this will be a long journey, she need not hurry.
