“So, we’re just going to leave him here?” Jace said, brows drawn together.
Sebastian spared him a glance, smirking slightly. “You have a problem with that?”
“Yes, because this is a Chinese restaurant, and you just killed a guy.”
He threw his dagger over his shoulder, gazing down at the dead body, watching in amusement at the blood that bloomed from under him.
“What did he do?” Jace questioned then.
Sebastian sighed. “He didn’t do anything.”
“W... what?” Jace threw his arms out. “Then why the hell? Why would you do this? He was an innocent man!”
Sebastian shrugged. “I owed him money, now I don’t.” He then spared Jace a glance. “And why are you complaining, brother? It’s not like you’ve done this thousands of times.”
“This is... This is different,” Jace said, shaking his head. “I kill demons, not innocent people.”
Sebastian just gazed up, laughing softly. “Oh? Oh, Jace, Sweetheart. Don’t tell me you got cold feet already.”
Jace glared, only earning a smile in response.
“You remember?” Sebastian said, stepping up to him and tipping his head to the side. “We had a deal.”
“I... I know.”
“What was the deal?” Sebastian said, brows arched.
“To watch... her,” Jace said, slightly clenching his fists.
“And then after that?”
“To get close to her,” Jace continued, closing his eyes tightly.
Sebastian just circled around him. “And then?”
“And then... introduce her to this world because her mother is keeping it from her,” Jace said quietly.
Sebastian leaned against a wall. “Why, Jace Wayland?”
“Because... she has the angel’s Raziel’s blood.”
Sebastian laughed. “That’s it precisely.”
Jace remained quiet then, breathing shallowly.
“Oh?” Sebastian said then. “Nervous, brother?” His eyes darkened dangerously. “You haven’t told Alec and Izzy about our... arrangement, have you?”
“No,” Jace said then, “no, I haven’t.”
“Then why the cold feet?”
Jace shook his head, squaring his shoulders. “No reason.”
“Oh, there’s a reason,” Sebastian said, waving the dagger at him. “This isn’t like you, brother. This... nervousness. Want to tell me what’s wrong?”
“No.” Jace glared at him, shaking his head. “Why the hell would I do that? You’re just....”
“What?” Sebastian arched a brow. “I’m what?”
Jace’s eyes flickered up to his. “A demon.”
He was suddenly slammed against a wall, gasping as Sebastian pressed against him, holding a dagger right to his throat.
“Say it again,” Sebastian hissed, eyes narrowing into a glare. “I dare you.”
Jace glared back. “You can’t kill me. You need me.”
Sebastian shoved the knife harder to his throat. “Wanna bet?”
The door to the restaurant opened, the bells jingling, and Sebastian as well as Jace gazed back to the doors.
Valentine gazed up from the doorway, brows arching. “Okay... what’s happening now?”
“Nothing,” Sebastian said, pulling back and almost making Jace stumble forward. “Just sibling rilvelry, like brothers do.” He glared at Jace.
Jace just smirked in response.
Valentine sighed and walked further into the room, gazing around before locking eyes with Jace. “Where’s all the staff?”
“Out for lunch?” Jace said, shrugging. “I don’t know.”
Valentine gave him a look. “This is a werewolf den, Jace. I highly doubt they went for a mid-day stroll to McDonalds.”
Sebastian flipped the blade in his hand, now leaning on a wall. “Suspicious, isn’t it, father?”
Jace shot him a look. “Oh, don’t imply that I warned them, Sebastian.”
He glanced over at him. “Did you?”
Jace just glared.
Valentine sighed. “Seriously, when will you boys get along?”
Sebastian kept flipping his blade. “When mister, shadowhunter, here finally does what I ask of him.”
“All three of us are shadowhunters, Sebastian,” Jace said, shaking his head while he smiled. “You’re just the select one with demon blood.”
Sebastian gazed up at him in warning.
“Jace, stop antagonizing your brother,” Valentine said. “And Sebastian, stop trying to kill your brother.”
Sebastian made an impatient sound.
Valentine then stepped forward. “Where can a guy get a cup of water in this lousy place?” He then spotted a table, smirking. “Oh, that’s nice.”
He then walked over, immediately tripping over the dead body that lay limp on the ground.
He regained his balance, yelling out. “Ugh... Sebastian!”
“What?” he replied innocently. “Why do you always think it’s me? Jace is right there, you know.”
“You’re the one who always kills people,” Valentine muttered. “So, naturally, I assume it’s you. But if Jace murdered one, congratulations.”
“It was actually my kill, father,” Sebastian said.
Valentine gazed up in boredom, catching the glass of water. “Stop killing people, will you?”
“What?” he said then, now offended. “You congratulate this thing?” He waved to Jace who smiled. “And then downsize me for murder? That’s hardly fair.”
“Life ain’t fair, bud,” Jace patted his back.
Sebastian shot him another look.
“All set aside,” Valentine’s eyes darkened, “what is this thing you asked him to do?”
Sebastian looked up then, eyes narrowing. “Why are you so eager to know?”
Valentine just arches his brows. “Implying something?”
“Jesus, everyone’s implying today,” Jace mumbled. “Can’t people just make things easy?”
“You always foil my plans, father,” Sebastian said then, ignoring Jace. “You ALWAYS steal them. Call them your OWN.”
Valentine just chuckled. “Because you’re so intelligent, my son.”
“That’s bullshit and you know it,” Sebastian hissed. “Why else would you have locked me in that lousy mansion all these years? You’re embarrassed to be around me, admit it.”
“I can admit that,” Jace said.
Sebastian suddenly flung a knife, making Jace’s breath catch when it sliced into the wall behind him, inches from his face. “You’re not in this conversation, Wayland.”
“Sebastian, what did I say about killing your brother?” Valentine said.
He just scoffed. “Oh, because you care about everything but yourself. You have this ultamite plan to take over the universe! You only take things when you need them.”
“I don’t want to take over the universe,” Valentine replied, voice lowering. “I need to rid the world of all toxic lifeforms.”
“That sounds like ruling the world to me.”
“Enough with this argument!” Valentine snapped then, making Jace and Sebastian gaze up boredly. “What was this... favor?”
Sebastian’s lips thinned, and he leaned against the wall, not replying.
“He wants me to hunt, Clary Frey,” Jace said then. “And abduct her.”
The glass Valentine held shattered in his hands, and he stared at both of them in shock. “What?”
Sebastian smiled then, a dark look crossing his eyes. “It’s a good plan, isn’t it, father? I mean... we are hunters, after all.”
His eyes flashed dangerously. “And how hard can it be to hunt a girl?”
