Over the past month, I have seen some truly amazing sights.536Please respect copyright.PENANAnbMXVhZXoq
I have seen the Red Light District in Amsterdam, and the national lakes in Croatia. I have marvelled once more at the sheer beauty of Rome and fallen in love with Venice. I have dipped my toes into Lake Geneva and gotten lost in a small Hungarian village. I have spent hours upon hours upon hours on all sorts of different trains - sometimes without even a seat - and I have closed my eyes in one country and awoken in another.536Please respect copyright.PENANA4VXnU9uJ0k
And yet, I feel rather uninspired. My writer's block is becoming so severe that no matter what I manage to type, nothing ever comes out right. I emerged from the Sistine chapel almost with a new lease of life. After the second time craning my neck to admire the beauteous work of Michelangelo Buonarotti, I thought I could conquer the world. Somewhere between leaving Vatican City and arriving back in Blighty, that determination and faith has diminished rather significantly.536Please respect copyright.PENANAK6mPkdZDCn
The three weeks I spent in Europe were the best three weeks of my life and I (temporarily, at least) achieved my goal: inspiration. Upon leaving each city and each country I felt that my inspiration was growing. I don't know where all of it has gotten to, but I do so wish it would return.536Please respect copyright.PENANAerYgdChDwj
Thinking back to the Sistine chapel, even two weeks later, I am in utter awe. Bizarrely, my first visit to the chapel did not affect me like this. This place manages to make me feel simultaneously so powerful and so strong and yet so small and insignificant. Perhaps this is the reason for my lack of ability to write these past few weeks; I know that if Michelangelo were to pick up the pen rather than the brush, he'd probably do that a thousand times better than me, too.
(It is worth noting here that I am neither a strict Christian nor a fan of Michelangelo.)
