(Vera N.)
“Anita, we’re lost.” I told her.
“No, we're not,” She replied. “We just need public transport.”
“Aren’t we targeted?” I whispered.
“Yes, but only the council knows that,” She whispered back. “Just act natural.”
“O-Okay.”
We were standing by the bus stop until a bus arrived. We stepped in and sat at the back.
Not long after a space themed woman sits across from us. “Are you Anita and Vera?”
“Yes.” Anita replied while I nodded, trying to keep my composure.
“I heard you two are quite the charm, taking down those criminals with the council. How honourable.” She clapped her hands together, eyes lighting up.
Anita forced out a laugh. “Of course. Who would want them around?”
“I totally agree. I would say I am deeply involved with Ace’s case.”
Her face fell. “What?”
“I mean not deeply, per say. I just discovered it. Too bad I don’t know anything aside from that incident.” She shrugged. “Anyway, it looks like they escaped from you.”
“They’re quite a challenge.” I sputtered. Ah, I said that too quickly. She’s going to suspect me!
“What’s your name?” Anita asked her.
“Lunar,” She replied. “I call people who don’t pay their taxes on time to make sure they get it done. So where are you two headed?”
I shrugged. “Wherever this bus takes its next stop?”
Anita shot a wide smile at her. It was clear to both of us that we didn’t want this conversation to go any longer.
“Splendid,” She replied. “Then I am with you too.”
“Huh?” Anita asked, her hazel pink eyes wide.
“I’ll help you capture them,” She said. “And I will tell you what I know about his case.”
