Here I am, once again, on clean up duty at the high school after graduation. I'm just glad I had the forethought to finish the rest of my packing at the house before coming back up here.
"Congratulations, Caroline."
I turned to see Klaus walking toward me. Why does he look like that? Is he nervous?
"Thank you," I said with a smile. "I'm so happy you came."
"Of course, I couldn't miss your big day." He pulled out my invitation. "You must have really wanted me here given the not so subtle words on your invite and that phone call."
I laughed.
"Look," he said. "I wasn't happy about setting my vendetta against Tyler aside, but I don't want to be the one to cause you pain. Tyler was your first love but I intend to be your last. However long it takes."
I stepped closer to him.
"That a fact, Mr. Mikaelson?" I asked coyly.
"What is it that the young people say nowadays?" He asked. "Actual factuals."
"Don't ever say that again," I said bursting into laughter as I put my hands on his cheeks and gazed into his pretty eyes. The moment turned tender as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
He pressed his lips to mine and gave me a searing kiss under the moonlight. He pulled back to rest his forehead against mine.
"Come on, it's time I take you home." He put his hand against the small of my back. "I'm pretty sure you still have a checklist to go over before leaving town tonight."
I couldn't help but laugh because he was right. It was time I leave this small town behind me and for the first time in a while, I genuinely smiled.
"Aww mom, don't cry."
"I can't help it!" She wrapped me in a fierce hug. "I'm going to miss you so much. You have to call me every week."
I smiled. "I will, mom."
"And you," she said turning to face Klaus.
Why is he here? Well, he talked me into flying back to New Orleans instead of driving by myself again. What's more is he also swindled me into letting him buy me a new car when we get there.
I know I shouldn't have let him do that but I don't care. I already told him I would give him a chance so I was going to accept all his gifts, within reason of course. Besides, my car was pretty beat up anyway.
We'd definitely have to talk about ground rules at some point.
"If you harm a hair on my daughter's head, I will find a way to break that sire line of yours and kill you myself." She was pretty scary when she wanted to be.
"I have no intention of hurting Caroline, Ms. Forbes."
"For some reason, I actually believe you." I looked at her in shock. "After the Tyler incident, I took the time to watch how my daughter reacts to you and how you treat her. I know she'll be safe with you."
"Thank—
"But I said what I said, Klaus. Do I make myself clear?" She asked.
"Crystal."
"Well, we'd better get going. It's an hour drive to the airport," I said. "I'll text you when we're on the plane!"
"You better!" She exclaimed giving me one last hug before walking back into the house.
Once I was sure she was safe inside, I turned to face Klaus.
"Are you ready for the adventure of a lifetime?" He asked.
"That depends... are you gonna let me drive to the airport?"
I didn't give him a chance to answer before snatching the keys from his hands and speeding over to the driver's side.
Grabbing me by the waist, he held me close to his body as he whispered in my ear.
"I'll be doing the driving, love."
I shivered at his close proximity.
"You'll let me drive you around one day." I huffed.
"That day is not today," he said with a chuckle.
I rolled my eyes before hopping in the passenger seat.
