I knew that taking this man up on his offer to show me the world would start pretty quickly after I said yes, but damn! Who the fuck knew that this was here?
I’m sitting in one of the fanciest rooftop restaurants in the city of New Orleans attending my first ever brunch with Nik.
“So,” he said, bringing me out of my thoughts. “How did I do?”
I looked around, taking in the spectacular view of the city before shrugging with indifference.
“Eh,” I said. “I’ve seen… planned better.”
“Ohh, have you now.” He smirked. “Well, I guess I’ve got my work cut out for me then.”
With a smirk of my own, I raised my glass to clink with his.
“To putting in the work,” I said with a teasing eyebrow raised.
“To putting in the work,” he said, echoing my sentiments.
I drank deeply, the blood spiked rosé tingling as it slid down my throat.
“Would you care for anything else?” A waitress asked, I wasn’t even paying her much attention. “Perhaps another bottle?”
I noticed that the beverage was almost gone. I frowned at that.
“Or perhaps another dish?”
I looked to my companion. “Surprise me.”
Turning my attention toward the skyline, I smiled at the irony of it all.
Once upon a time, I scolded myself for having a daydream about this very moment. I distinctly remember winking at myself too. So, out of some weird curiosity, I turned in my seat to gaze down at the street.
Of course, I didn’t see myself but I don’t know. Something was off. Peering down at a particularly sketchy corner, I saw dark hair flash for a moment before it was gone taking with it the prickly feeling of being watched.
Hmm, interesting.
Brushing it off, I focused my attention back to Nik. This was the start of my adventure, my forever, and I couldn’t wait to see what the rest of it would hold.
