Tilly and Elsie were sitting in their room tossing a rubber ball against the wall when they received word from Professor Goodwin that the Rosanne was completely repaired and ready to go. What followed was the hasty process of moving their things back onto the ship, getting re-settled into their cabins, and waiting patiently for the order to fire up the engines. To Mr. Dunstan’s absolute approval the ship cruised smoother than ever through the blue depths of the ocean, and even the professor let out a cry of relief to be moving again.
Before they left, they had discovered in the local paper that yet another ship had gone down. The VS Blackwater was one of the military vessels sent to search for the missing VS Falcon, but apparently it only stumbled into the same fate. As they boarded the Rosanne the professor read over the paper again. “I fear my old friend is losing control of Specimen Zero. He must be less capable now of supressing the aggressive tendencies that were symptomatic of his research. Oh, it’s only a matter of time before he loses control entirely, and when that happens, there’ll be no one to stop it.”
The venture between Kings Island and Edith Post was subtle and remarkably quiet. For the most part Elsie felt like she was returning to her old life. She would sit by her glowing window and read for hours on end, otherwise she would be enjoying games night with Tilly and Fiona, or wondering around the Rosanne striking up conversations with the rest of the crew. It wasn’t boring, per say, but it wasn’t exciting either.
When they arrived at their destination the professor had Mr. Dunstan take the Rosanne slightly to the north of Edith Post where it was left to await them patiently in the nearest bay. Then Professor Goodwin once again assembled his team consisting of Oliver Tanner, Elsie and Jack, and of course Mr. Adams. Between them they carried a series of tools requested by Mr. Tanner, and on the very outskirts of the industrial centre of Pearl Isle, they awaited the cover of dark.
