Raeven does not understand what hit her until it went flying right into her face. This Hayley-girl was just like her! So, it seemed like she was one hell of a dark, mysterious girl who hides under those gorgeous eyelashes of hers, with her feelings hidden under her blinding beauty. But unlike her, she was never this bold with showing off her physical appearance.
"Show off..." She mumbled.
But there was something in this girl that made her want to cuddle her and protect her from the outside world even though she knew that this tough-looking girl was fighting hard even before they crossed paths. There's so much in this world that she still doesn't know.
"Gel, you're sure?"
"Uhm, yeah, sure. She's our classmate!" Angel said, looking surprised, that was an easy decision. And without hesitation Angel took a seat at one of the empty chairs, Raeven also followed suit. Raeven cannot think of a mean thing to say to this Angel-girl. This girl has the purest heart she had ever known. Right now she wished she could get angry at her, or Angel would just snap out and yell at anybody. She almost laughed at the very idea, like Angel would lose it and act like a rabid dog.
"Rae, is something funny?" Speaking of the ever holy...
She shook her pretty head at her "nothing, just my wild and crazy imagination." She said sarcastically. But when Angel looked at her with that same indiscriminate look, she thought she could try and get angry even just for once. But there was no hope in hell, for this girl didn't possess the guts to bully people.
"You're being sarcastic again, Rae," Angel said so gently, she sounds like a mother. Hayley was looking at them for a while now. She knows that this Angel-girl acts like a mother- a genuine mother. She knew what a mother should be like. She still doesn't forget how her nanny took care of her like a real mother when she was little. Sadly, she never found that kind of love from her biological mother. However, she doesn't dream of it, ever.
"So, have you been friends ever since?' The other girl at the table asked them.
"Yeah, you seemed tight," Hayley said. She said it a bit sardonically.
Raeven was sure this girl was up to no good. "We just met today. Wasn't it great to have a friend on the first day of school?" Raeven said boastfully, but only the girl she was targeting was the only one who knows the words underneath it.
Hayley was taken aback. "Well, that was...nice." That was all she could say.
The other girls with Hayley occupied their seats and ate their lunch with an occasional chat. Raeven was not at ease talking with others or being surrounded by other girls, especially since she was home-schooled ever since. This was the first time she spoke with other girls her age and without formalities.
"Say, Angel, so you're like, what, a Virgin Mary or something?" The girl beside Hayley teased the ever gentle maiden who was gracefully eating lunch. Then the next thing that happened was an awkward silence.
Hayley just blinked, then scoffed. "Awkward..." she mumbled.
"That's a bit of an honor for me, knowing that Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus our Savior, it was not even the end of the world. God will never give the task to someone like me." Angel said, trying to lighten up the awkwardness. Raeven was annoyed at Angel's kindness without malice. Then Raeven noticed the uneasiness in Angel's eyes. Maybe she was not used to those who talked bluntly and without consideration. Angel was in Catholic school from kindergarten to elementary.
"Hey, now, uhm, Rosie, right?. Don't you think that was kind of an inconsiderate thing to say and even during our meal?" Raeven said with an air of indifference. She was ready to sit with them and just let this hour pass and get out of thereafter. Then she does that. And the way girls snicker at the offending joke Rosie made. She might even send her to hell right here, right now.
But wait! When did she ever get overprotective with others? She even gave a cold look in Hayley's direction!
The other girl was the peace-maker. "Hey, don't take it to heart. Angel was not offended. So why be offended on her behalf?"
"I'm sorry, I think I just speak without a filter again. Happens all the time. Like I can take it back?' Rosie said playfully.
Raeven was so sure this girl would not feel remorse, ever. Pity for this bitch's soul. If this was even an apology, then sure it does not look like one. She thought.
"No, it's okay. It's just that I'm not used to it. Maybe it was common from others. When someone served God way too long that was the common reaction we get from them, right?"
Raeven almost burst out laughing. Did she just hear sarcasm out of her holiness's mouth?
"You must be dedicated to serving God's purpose." The other girl with a high forehead blurted. Hayley just rolled her eyes and then went back to eating her salad. The girls can't believe they were even having this kind of conversation. It was all but a forced recognition of one's purpose in life. Raeven knew it all along that Angel will have a hard time mingling with this bunch of stupid girls.
