Chapter forty-five
Novah
I hear a knock on the window and see Matt standing next to my car.
His hair is wet, pushed back and he's smiling like an idiot.
Not this shit.
One of my biggest fucking pet peeves is when people try to cheer me up by making jokes when I'm sad or in a bad mood.236Please respect copyright.PENANAC11TRW8OcO
It's like they think my feelings are a joke. I feel like people who do that aren't taking shit seriously and I know they probably have good intentions but I can't stand that shit.
I hope Matt's not planning to do that.
I unlock the car door and stretch across the seat to open the passenger door for him.
He steps in and I get a small waft of his cologne.
Mmmm, I love that smell.
"Hey," he says and leans over, kissing me on the cheek.
"Hi," I reply
"How are you doing?"
"Good,"
"Aww c'mon....." he says cocking his head to the side adorably, "Talk to me,"
"Can I have a hug?" I ask bashfully.
"Sure. Come here," he says opening his arms.
I climb over the console, onto his lap and he wraps his arms around my body.
I don't' say anything, I just let him hold me.
I'm not even crying or anything, surprisingly, I just have this sinking feeling in my gut from trying to suppressing my emotions, something I am not good at.
He is rubbing his hands up and down my back.
"I love you....." he coos.
"I know Matt,"
"Good,"
I look up at him and he smiles down on me.
"You smell really good," I tell him.
"Thank you m'lady. I just recently showered," he says and kisses my forehead, "I'm glad I could make you smile,"
I continue looking up into those beautiful pools of jade, wondering how I'm with someone who's so damn beautiful, inside and out.
He runs his finger along my jawline, as he always does, as he stares down at my face intently.
"Let's go find your box," he says after a while of caressing my face.
"Okay," I say stretching my arms out a bit.
"Keys," Matt says. I take the keys out of the ignition and hand them to him.
He opens the door and I awkwardly climb off his lap and out of the car.
Matt steps out after me, locking the car with my keys. He drops them in his pocket and takes my hand, bringing it up to his mouth. He plants a tiny, sweet kiss on the top of my hand.
I giggle and he smiles at me.
"Stop being sappy, babe, you're annoying me," he jokes while grinning.
I smile even harder as we walk inside of the dorm building lobby.
"So, where was it last?" Matt asks and opens the stairwell door.
I walk through. "Well, I always put it in my bottom drawer in the closet. Skylar and I have these little cubby things and we each have a few to ourselves but when I looked where I usually put it, it wasn't there,"
"And you looked through the whole entire room?" Matt asks with raised eyebrows.
"Yes, Matt. Stop looking at me like I'm crazy,"
"You probably misplaced it," Matt says as we reach the top of the stairs.
We walk down the hall to the dorm room.
"Listen, the apartment is always open, okay?"
"I know. And thank you,"
Matt takes my keys out of his pocket and unlocks the door.
He walks in first, taking in the disheveled room.236Please respect copyright.PENANAp6Kx5BpQzy
I close the door behind us and cross my arms.
"Where'd you say you usually keep it?" Matt asks.
"Bottom drawer in the closet," I tell him blankly.
He walks into the open closet and crouches down, pulling open the drawer.
He digs around in there and looks back at me.
He pulls my silver jewelry box out of the drawer and my mouth drops open.
"Is this it?" Matt asks.
I storm into the closet and snatch it out of his hand.
"What?" I gasp and open it.
Matt stands up and starts picking up all the clothes as I stare at the open-lidded box.
"Matt, I swear.....I.....I looked everywhere!"
"It's fine Novah. I'm glad we found it before somebody stole something out of it,"
"Wait," I pause.
I sit on the floor and take all my little rings and trinkets as well as my favorite necklace, out of the box.
"Matt, the stuff you got me.....it isn't here,"
Matt sits on the floor next to me examining the jewelry that's sitting on the floor in front of me.
I sit the empty box next to the pile.
"Where could it be?" Matt asks.
"I put it in here, Matt, I promise,"
"Well it's not here,"
"I know," I reply nervously.
He looks up at me and I can only hope he isn't mad.
"And you're one-hundred percent sure you put it in here?"
"Yes," I reply immediately.
"Do you know who else has been in this room besides you and Skylar?"
"No,"
He takes his lip ring into his mouth and stares at me, thinking.
"Someone might've taken it,"
"Yeah, maybe,"
He takes all the jewelry and puts it back in the box, covering it.
"I have a warranty anyway," he says with a shrug of his shoulder. "But we will find who took your shit,"236Please respect copyright.PENANAYoI8JKyQRC
